Right, lets start with the bad points:
1. The room was filthy. Mosquito corpses decorated the walls of a dark dank room. We were unlucky in that our room was on the ground floor so there was no light coming in at all. The bathroom was also dirty and the hairdryer blew up twice. The first time was scary as blue flames kept shooting out of the end!
2. The food was dire. It was ok for the first day or two, but every meal was the same. Breakfast you got eggs, bread, cereal, salad etc, lunch was chips, turkish pizza, kebab and salad etc, snack was always a burger/hotdog and chips and dinner was exactly the same as lunch. Soul destroying after a while. Everything hot was deep fat fried or covered in oil so not for those who are diet conscious and unwilling to exist on lettuce for a week or two.
3. Sunbeds. I gave in after a while and started getting up to put out the towels. Although there is a policy that towels placed out before 9am will be removed this was never enforced and the reality (esp in relation to the adults only pool) was that they were all reserved by this time. There seemed to be a hardcore contingent of people who had all come together and knew others that conspired to assist each other with this too. Take their position at your peril!
4. Mosquitoes. Ok, ok, I know its a hot country and they live there. We managed to get a mosquito net after much communication with reception. We had a daily 'hunt' and often discovered more than 5 of the beasties at a time. Seen as we had blocked up the many gaps in the doors and windows we were perplexed as to where they were coming from. We realised that the maids cleaned with the doors wide open so put the 'do not disturb' sign out. Undeterred, the maids continued to enter the rooms despite this and let more in. They also failed to clean the hundreds of dead ones from the room.
5. Maids. As above. The had no regard to the wishes of the guest that they should not enter when told not to. My other half was in bed (sign on door) they still came in and cleaned around him despite being told to leave. More worryingly, there were tales round the pool about things being stolen from rooms. We didnt experience this ,but others were distresses following their experiences.
Right, good points
1. Drinks at the place were plentiful. Age seemed no bar as depsite signs saying that under 18s would not be served, anyone could get what they wanted. Seemed to be a running soap opera between male members of bar staff and 14 year old girls what provided nightly entertainment.
2. The real entertainment team were hysterical. Not in the sense that their prepared act was funny, but in that every night something went badly wrong (eg during glass walking show man actually cut his head open and had to abort performance). People were constantly falling over on patches of water and injuring themselves (guests that were dragged up to participate too). Not sure themes were appropriate for kids as always of a violent and/or sexual nature.
3. Go paragliding! It rocked. We went with Focus and would happily do it again.
I dont think we would go back knowing what we do now. the grounds were great but the rooms really let the place down. Im sure many people loved this but not of a high standard. Based on the reviews we read here we expected a lot, which we didnt get. If you have already booked then make the most of it. I'm sure if i had read this review before going then I would have dismissed it, but if you havent booked then I would consider other places. (Hotel opposie, Mavruka? looked much nicer). If you can afford it, go to Lykia world.
