I always very carefully research our holidays on both Trip Advisor and the travel company websites. I am afraid that the glowing reports the Oykun had mislead me somewhat. We did expect a more basic hotel as it was listed 3star, however we think 2star is more accurate.
Yes the family who run it are helpful and very friendly but there are many negatives.
Firstly I have never in many years travel experienced such avid sunbed bagging! We actually watched people putting their towels out at MIDNIGHT! The management do nothing.
Our room, as was the rest of the hotel was spotless, but very small, the bedding and towels were very hard due to being dried on lines in the sun, it was pitiful watching the poor laundry women carry huge bags of wet laundry past the pool to hang on lines.
The balcony was too small to sit on, just big enough to dry swimmers, and our room was so close to main route through hotel there was no privacy!
We hired a fridge, which didn't really work until we discovered they had plugged it into the socket that went off when you took out your key ! so watch that, we put it in the TV socket which was connected independently.
Break fast was hit and miss, fruit juice was diabolical, tasted like sherbert water, so we bought our own and had a glass in our room before breakfast. Always melon, with the occasional grape or plum, so we bought our own fruit and took it to breakfast. As much toast as you wanted, only if you were there at 9am the queue was so long. There were omelettes or fried eggs some days, make your own toasted cheese sandwiches some days and still the selection of cheese and salads, and hard boiled eggs. The coffee was good, but the tea OH! made in an urn, not a teabag in sight, so take your own if you want a fresh cuppa.
Sun beds very worn as were mattresses, constantly falling apart, quiet pool had some sunbeds in shade all day, It was a shame they didn't utilise the very big field nearby to make the sunbathing area larger at this quiet pool.
The hotel is well situated for the town of Calis Beach, it is not actually in Fethiye. There is a lovely promenade, lovely views and some good restaurants, our favourite was Bella Mamas.
We used the water taxi to go to Fethyie twice, once during the day, and once at night.Lovely crossings, and views.
Why people keep going back to the Oykun year after year is beyond me. We may return to the area, but certainly not to that hotel, we like our creature comforts too much!
