Had a huge fiasco with English Reservations Centre (take note Club Med UK as ALL the English guests had similar problems booking) who told us many rooms were available and then 5 minutes later told us they had all gone (we discovered the hotel was not even open so they lied to us) so we were a little worried about what to expect despite having had mostly good past Club Med experience and having to arrange alternative accommodation for our first night due to the problems.
Great welcome from the very friendly reception team (Julie, Peggy and Huseyim) and although our rooms were not ready (we did arrive very early) we were shown around the resort and offered a selection of rooms to choose from (thanks Elodie). The whole concept is pretty much out door with the rooms being scattered amongst well tended gardens and beautiful pine trees in villa style buildings of up to 8 rooms per block depending on the type of room selected. There are quite a few steps at times but also ramps and more gentle, but longer approaches. Club Rooms (the cheapest) are reasonable with good sized bathroom and small but useful balcony or patio. Deluxe rooms are much bigger being on two levels with a downstairs bedroom and bathroom and an upstairs bedroom, bathroom and sitting area and outdoor terrace. Due to the pine trees and the gardens the sea views are obstructed but this is not negative and actually lends to a more secluded and private feeling as other buildings are obscured.
The bar and restaurant are set around the pool area and offer superb views over the ocean onto the adjoining Greek islands. Next to this is an amphitheatre style stage area for the evening entertainment. The pool is uniformly deep at around 1.4m with lifeguard in attendance and ample supplies of towels and sun loungers in both shaded and sunny areas with relaxing chill out type music being played subtly around the area. A level below the pool offers terraces with giant cushions and day beds for relaxing on in dappled shade offered by the pine trees and a more quiet atmosphere if preferred.
The food was superb and the selection was vast. Some evenings there were BBQ’s and it was all beautifully presented and well cooked. The restaurant setting was lovely with outdoor areas with stunning views across the sea. An additional restaurant on the beach was open at lunchtime for all and then in the evening for bookings only (bookable on the day at Reception in the morning on first come first served – unfortunately due to a wet day our booking was cancelled so we did not get to try it but had good reports from those that had used it other days)
Lift or stairs down to beach which is laid out in two sections, one area around pontoons and private decks set amongst the rocks and then a more regular beach area with shades and loungers alongside the windsurfing and sailing centre which is all included in the Club Med package. There are two beach bars offering service to your sun lounger of soft and alcoholic drinks, teas and coffees and at times the staff circulate with fresh fruit or cool towels, its bliss! Also Archery – which we had never tried but were expertly trained by Valeria and Tennis tuition (thanks Matt) are available up in the gardens. We started playing tennis again which was fantastic and again all included in your package with good quality equipment provided. On the beach all towels etc were provided with clean toilets and fresh water showers.
The MAIN selling point of this holiday though is the STAFF. Whilst there were very few English guests there were plenty of English speaking staff and nothing was too much trouble for them. They were a fantastic friendly crew who made sure you wanted for nothing. The evening shows were hysterical. The Italian Chief, Gianni Merone included us each evening even though the majority of the guests were French and we never felt excluded. He would frequently switch between French, Italian, English and Spanish. We are quickly learning that the good Club Meds have good Chiefs... find out who they are and follow them around the Clubs for great holidays.
So in summary, this was the BEST summer holiday ever. So good we are going back for another 10 days in July. Cannot recommend this enough
