“Excellent work, Erhan!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

Given that we paid just 30 euros each for a single room, I was not expecting much. As it turned out, the hotel was a wonderful surprise. The rooms look as though they have been renovated very recently and are extremely comfortable, complete with flat-screen TV. The wi-fi worked perfectly. Erhan - the English-speaking manager - is a lovely man and extremely efficient. I totally fell in love with this place and would return again in a heart-beat.

I like to be near the action so would definitely stay here again rather than at the new Hilton, which seems quite far out of town. We asked for - and were given - rooms overlooking the mosque, with wonderful views of the mountains (and free early-morning wake-up calls!).

Room Tip: If you don't mind the 5.30 am wake-up call, ask for a room on one of the upper floors, overlooki...

We reserved a double room for my wife and I. We got a large, cool, comfortable 2 bedroom suite. The bathroom and the shower were the nicest and largest of the entire month-long trip (bigger than the Comfort Inns where we usually stay in in the US, bigger than the 3 times more costly Titanic Port Bakirkoy near the Ataturk Airport). There were also more electrical outlets than we find in the US—1 on each side of the bed and a bank of outlets above the desk! BEST OF ALL was the very helpful manager, Erhan Ertem. He speaks excellent English and went out of his way to help us. Our plane from Istanbul was scheduled to arrive at 10 p.m. in Malatya and he arranged for a taxi/dolmas to pick us up at the airport. He also helped us to find the minivan tour to Mt. Nemrut (it had moved from the location specified in Lonely Planet) and to find a bus to Goreme, even calling the hotel there for information. It is a great place to relax before going on the tour to Mt. Nemrut.

Under all aspects wonderful hotel on best place of town. Staff is very helpful though only one staff member is speaking English fluently - Erham Ertem. Good advice for Nemrut Dagi trip as well as for any other topics. Malatya is one the most pleasant cities we visited on our journey from Istanbul to the Iranian border.

Great Hotel in the right location, in the very center of the Apricots City. Friendly place, very confortable, clean, good breakfast, fair price. Above all a professional staff. Manager Erhan Ertem speaks a fluent English and is very helpful in all manners, being really knowledgeable of his city, from the best apricots to carpets and kilims.

We stayed for one night, our two kids had a separate room connected to ours. The rooms are modern and excellent value for the price. Breakfast was also ok.
I could also park my car directly in front of the hotel, in view of the reception. The hotel is basically in the middle of the city centre, so an easy stroll takes you down town.
The only problem we had is finding the place with the car - a set of very narrow one way streets make it hard to find!

Lovely place. Recently re-furbished. Great staff, great location. Manager, Erhan, is very helpful and speaks good English. He knows all the best places to go. Ask him about rug shops. He is an expert on old stuff, kilims and rugs, having run a shop there for years. Now he applies his considerable abilities to the hotel trade. Also he knows where the best apricots come from. I cannot recommend the place highly enough. It is right in the middle of what is left of old Malatya. Old-style Turkish hospitailty and genuine welcome. Five star treatment at the right price.

Room Tip: Roomt the back are quieter generally. Busy area and gets morning traffic sounds. Go to the Emniyet...

I visited Malatya on my first trip to Turkey with no idea of what to expect. My friend and I chose the Buyuk Hotel out of the lonely planet, and we couldnt have been luckier.

Located directly in the heart of the city with a view of the main Mosque and in front of the market, it was a perfect place from which to explore the area.

The staff was incredibly welcoming and made us feel comfortable and at home. One of the staff, Erhan Ertem, spoke great english and offered to take on a customized tour to all the important sites in the area. He arranged a driver for us, and took us to visit Arslantepe and Battalgazi (Old Malatya). He even accommodated my strange request to see the Euphrates River. We were hoping to spend a day visiting Nemrut Dagi, but unfortunately we came too early in the spring and there was still too much snow in the mountains.

If you are looking for a friendly, clean, modern hotel to base yourself while exploring the Malatya area, you couldn't do better than the Buyuk Hotel.

Room Tip: Get a room on one of the top floors with an incredible view of the mosque.
