“If You Are Not Familiar with the Tomb's Inhabitant..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

Mosques with tombs are fairly common. This one is special and deserves some attention and respect. The problem is that unless you are familiar with the tomb inhabitant's background it can be largley simply a visit to view the decro. This Tomb is quite lovely artitically.

“Lost its originality during the last renovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

The original of this mosque dates back to 16th century however, in the current building nothing is left from those days as the last renovation back in 1977 erased almost all its originality. Though the tomb and the mosque are named after Şems-i Tebrizi, the most influential disciple of Mevlana from whom Mevlana himself was abundantly influenced, the tomb inside does not belong to him. In fact no one knows when and where he died, but despite that common knowledge, people keep coming here to pray for the soul of Şems-i Tebrizi. The building itself is not as impressive as the other beautiful monuments of Konya, but it still worths a visit thanks to its spritiual position in the Mawlawi sect.
