“Padlocked doors at the bottom of emergency stairs”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

Outwardly this hotel is indeed impressive and the internal decor very smart. However, the safety aspect worried me greatly. The lifts are inadequate to deal with the number of floors they serve. Which is why we, together with other guests, tried to access the emergency stairs in order to get down to the hotel restaurant. One of the exits was blocked with what appeared to be furniture and a mattress while the other unlit staircase, terminated in locked and padlocked doors.
I did inform the hotel via e-mail on my return home, about my concerns. They haven't afforded my the courtesy of a reply.

This is a very modern hotel situated adjacent to a Konya university complex, not that that is a problem. We were advised that the hotel had originally been a Hilton but is now part of the Dubai based Rixos group. The hotel is what you would expect from a modern international hotel chain, confortable rooms with stunning views across the city and on into the plains, with a backdrop of the mountains beyond. Our room, unusually it would seem for Turkey, had tea and coffee making facilities as well as the 'normal' collection of shampoo, shower gel, etc. from the room point of view I would strongly advise that you shower or bath in the evening as the water is not hot in the morning. Good enough for a wash / shave but that is all. Apparently this 'anomaly' is due to the rapid expansion of the city, 130 K to 1 million in less than 20 years, which has meant that the utilities have been unable to keep pace. Seems like a good story to me as it cannot be beyond the wit of man to instal a water heating system that functions correctly! The restaurant food was good, but could have been a little hotter. Overall I would stay there again.

this hotel presents itself as a big international business/spa hotel but really needs to up its game-
everything in "English" was absolute gibberish
the air conditioning didn't work
there was no hot water in the morning
the food wasn't hot

Very impressive hotel visually....but, the lifts are a serious issue, we were left waiting aprox 15 minutes for a lift that we could squeeze into when checking out. when trying to exit the doors snapped shut leaving three of inside.Off we went onwards and upwards, scary as don't like heights. Confusion on checking out as to which of our party had what. The unlit staircase and locked exit doors is a serious issue as it acted as the fire escape. On the bright side the breakfast and evening meal were excellent as was the room.

Room Tip: Don't have a room above the first few floors.

This hotel seemed great, despite been next to a university and lots of waste land, but:-
There are over 20 floors and only 2 lifts which get very busy and have long waits at times, there are no stairs for guests to use.
Some friends staying on the second floor waited over 15 minutes for the lift decided to take the fire escape, big mistake,
The fire stairs had no lights at all and the doors at the bottom were padlocked.
This bought what would have been a 5 star hotel down to not deserving of any stars at all, and has put me off staying at any of the groups hotels in the future

Room Tip: ground floor only

Dear Our Guest

First of all we would like to thank you for your review which you have shared with us.

I want to kindly inform you that we have totaly 3 elevators ın our hotel. All of them next to each other. But unfortunately one of elevators broke down one day last week .And our technical service team immediately fıxed it in same night.

About fıre strairs,we have two different fıre stairs one of them for staffs another one for our guest and every day our relevant departmant making daily control and when they see any fault they register it to our system and same day our technical team is fixing. All our hotel and lobby fıre exıt doors open and also I want to ınform you ,our technical floors door on the same way if you try to open ıt you cant because just these doors locked for safety. But sure,we will check our stairs again and we will be more careful.

We truly hope to have a chance for hosting you again in our Hotel

My husband & I stayed here last October, during a Cosmos Grand Tour of Turkey holiday.
It’s a very tall hotel, comprising 25 floors, situated 15-20 minutes from Konya. Guests are greeted by revolving doors, containing a whirling dervish (not a live one!) in keeping with the theme of the area.
The décor is ‘tired’, our windows (which didn’t open) were filthy on the inside & there were water splashes on the bathroom floor, so cleaning was slap-dash. The shower has simply been added over the bath & there is a glass screen to prevent splashes.
The windows are floor to ceiling though, which helps when there is no balcony. It’s ok for 1-2 nights on tour but would drive me mad if I were there longer; I don’t like being closed in, without access to fresh air.
Our room, 1107, was quite spacious, with a large bathroom. There’s a hairdryer, room safe, toiletries, mini-bar (containing water, soft drinks & beer). There was no kettle; fortunately we always take our own, plus various drink sachets. Other group members did have kettles though. The same was applicable to bathrobes; we didn’t have any but others did. The toiletries are shower-gel, shampoo, bath foam & conditioner.
In addition to the twin beds, we had a coffee table, a large arm chair, another large desk chair & writing desk / dresser, with large TV (didn’t use it, so don’t know what channels it offers). There were plenty of lights, including low level lighting, by the bed, which is handy for anyone needing to find the bathroom in the dark. There are a few drawers & full length mirror on the wardrobe, which has inside lighting. The air-con was ok & there was an iron & ironing board in the room.
I didn’t like the lifts; one snapped shut, bruising my forearm & we saw another lady being ‘trapped’ by the doors of another.
There are pools & tennis courts & it was nice to see the sun go down behind the mountains. Bathing caps must be worn in the pool & are provided if guests don’t have one.
The dining room is one floor up & part open, so it overlooks reception, which housed a jewellery shop, postcards & art exhibition, mainly Sufi-based pictures. They were for sale at 500-100TL.
There was a good choice of salads & about 6 hot dishes, plus soup, chips (cold & chewy!) rice, shish kebabs, fish, chicken. The chairs in there looked like they’d been decked out for a wedding, with drapes & ribbons.
There was 25% discount on the roof bar; drinks were expensive though, so we didn’t have much. We only tried the bar at the left side of the hotel, as you face it. The beer was ok at 5-6TL but Baileys was 22TL. At dinner it was £8 sterling for 1 beer & a sprite!
At breakfast, there was no milk for coffee & other things were running out. There was a ‘strange’ offering of nuts on cherries & the yogurt tasted stale.
As we left, a lady in another Cosmos group was complaining, to reception, of cigarette ash in her bed. Nice……
We thought it was 3-3.5* accommodation with 2* service; all the group members, & guide, were pleased to be moving on next morning.
From other reviews, of more recent guests, it looks like this hotel has ongoing problems that it really should address.

l have stayed at this hotel on several occasions and come to the belief that air condition has always a problem and is not working good enough to cool the room. You can see during day and night all room service plates etc on trays outside the rooms. After some time, you feel that room service does deliver the orders to the rooms but never collects back what is left.Strange!Takes too much time to check in and reception staff usually forgets their smiles at home. Will never stay here again.
