This museum, now managed by the municipality, is made of a huge and impressive collection of a businessman called İzzet Koyunoğlu who was born and died in Konya. The exhibits range from stuffed animals to carpets, from old photos to maps, from antique guns to minerals, from clothes to furnitures, all related with Konya. There is also a library inside where sources again related to Konya can be found. The display is not very professional, there is a general lighting problem inside. The explanatory notes are very limited even in Turkish. Yes, it's impressive for a citizen to donate such a collection for wider audiences to enjoy it but it's also almost a mess around in terms of professional museum management. You would not miss anything in case you don't visit this place...
Unfortunately typical Turkish museum. The founder of this museum (Mr. Koyunoglu) was a wonderful and visionary man I guess. His house where he was living with his mother was in the garden of the museum as well.
Koyunoğlu Museum, built by a civilian who collected all the items on display, during his life time, now run by Konya Municipality has a very good and diversified collection.
The displays could use an upgrade which does not justifies the value and the diversificationof the items . The explanations of the items should be more informative.
The entensive collection ranges from carpets to minerals, stuffed local animals to coins, dresses to embroidery, fotography to old books , calligraphy to miniatures. The garden of the museum houses the original home of Izzettin Koyunoğlu, the founder, also open for visits along with statues from different centuries.
The museum is not far very away from the Mevlana Cultural Center where they hold Whirling Dervish Ceremonies.
