While staying at the Otel Izmir Palas, for the first time, we had the opportunity to have our very first dinner at Deniz Restaurant, famous for its fish dishes. In fact, this Restaurant is claimed and marketed as part of Izmir Palas, though the Restaurant staff maintained that it has a different ownership now. Never mind who is the owner, let me say, we had the best fish meal (dinner), in a long time. We ordered 10 pieces of fresh Red Mullet (Snapper) to be fried as the practice is, with batter and separate side order of salads. Though it turned out to be too much for two of us, we only left bones on our plates. We have had Red Mullet before many places in Turkey, including Bursa for the first time in the 1990s, where we could not get more than 2 or 3 pieces per person, because of limited supply then and high demand. It turned out to be our best meal, never mind the cost (over TL 150.00), as claimed by the Restaurant and Izmir Palas.
The serving staff was polite and friendly and knowledgeable about variety of fish dishes to suggest and recommend. I strongly recommend this Restaurant. The Restaurant has excellent view of the sea.
