“Go there to buy anything you need, go there for the atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Small shops selling everything from food to clothing, antiques, spices, you name it. Everything at affordable prices. Do not miss to have a quick lunch and then order your Turkish coffee.

“Interesting and endless market for everyday things and cheap junk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

Most of the things sold are everyday items like shoes, clothes, and meats, fish, spices, etc.
There are dozens of streets many going on for 10 blocks or more in this market. It is fun to get lost and explore. Unless you wish to buy spices or leather or of course a carpet, looking is more fun than buying. The prices seem to be less than Istanbul as Izmir is less of a tourist city and more for everyday Turks. Fun people watching too.

“An interest place to visit but not too much”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Kemeralti Market is an interesting place to visit, but do not expect too much. The hole place is a labyrinth of streets, full of small “stores” and people trying to sell mainly leather and everything.

In the area you can visit Sadırvan Camisi that is a very beautiful mosque that was built in the XVII century, the Hisar Mosque and in a couple of blocks the Konak Square.

“A place where you can spend a whole day - without shopping.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

It is an interesting and confusing area with all the narrow streets intersecting in all directions.
It is a good place for shopping as long as you "haggle", but also nice just to sit down at some cafe with a cup of tea, looking at the streetlife.

“Interesting, but not very different from any other market”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

I visited the Kemeralti market, and found it to be much like the markets in Mexico, El Salvador, Malaysia, Tunisia, Greece and many other countries I have visited. There are some beautiful things to be purchased there, as well as some inexpensive practical things, but I wouldn't make it a point to get there unless I wanted something very touristy. There is good food to be had there, and that is worth fighting your way through the crowds on occasion.
