“There are better hotels at cheaper rates!”

Hilton Izmir

Here are the problems that I encountered:
1- After 22:00 impossible to take a drink at the lobby or anywhere else. If you want to drink somethink you should go to the bar where the music is so loud that you cannot talk with friends.
2- there is almost nowhere in the lobby where you can wait for somebody etc. There is some areas but is ok for just a few person. There is also places on the restaurant near the lobby but as stated earlier the restaurant clauses at 22:00
2-Meals or only OK and the service is too slow. They could not be able to serve all the meals at the same time.

“Convenient to downtown, but dated”

Nothing to complain about, but no razzle-dazzle here either.

The hotel location is great, right in the center of downtown, and within easy walking distance to either Izmir's old shopping bazaar as well as modern waterfront.

Front desk service was prompt, friendly and professional, as were bellhops. There is no concierge, but the front desk personnel are knowledgeable.

Rooms are fairly large and clean, but the furnishings and gadgetry are dated. The public areas are definitely looking tired. The view of the city lights and bay from our window however, was spectacular. The area around the hotel is recently undergoing a revival, and there are other luxury hotels already being built nearby. If the Hilton does not upgrade soon, it would be worth checking the other hotels when they open.

Most of the guests were business people. The buffet breakfasts were just okay, with a eggs-to-order and waffles chef. The Windows on the Bay restaurant provides a swank setting with excellent service, good food and live piano music at the top of the hotel. The only complaint is that the first night we arrived we ate early at the restaurant and they served day-old rolls but promptly replaced it when we complained.

There is a shopping mall below the hotel with a little food stand where you can buy 1 liter bottles of mineral water for about $1.50. It is near the jewelry stores (not the stores in the lobby) and is open late.

From a distance the new Crowne Plaza Hotel is definitely an impressive, high-tech building, but that's the point: you see it from a distance because it is at the far tip of the bay miles away and not convenient if you expect to spend a lot of time in the city center. If you are staying in Izmir as a tourist to see Ephesus and visit the coast resorts near town, and not the city it is probably a good option and if i were to do it over again, I would have tried staying there.

“Great Hotel”

I had the pleasure of staying here for 10 days at the beginning of May and overall had an excellent experience and stay.

The Hotel is located in the middle of downtown Izmir, and although there isn't much nightlife, the waterfront is a 10 minute walk from the hotel and has several trendy bars/restaurants.

Reception area and staff were very much Hilton standard. Large, bright lobby, mostly business people, a few high end shops, a small cafe. Reception staff was friendly, helpful and spoke very good english.

The roms were large, clean and well apportioned. Mini-bar, TV (Sky, CNN and BBC in english), tremendous views of the city and bay, hairdryer, stand-up shower, large bed, desk. Couch, sitting chair and coffee table were also in the room and seemed standard.

Breakfast was very good. Large selections of breads, fruits, sausage, eggs, cereals, jams, etc.. Along with a chef who prepared eggs to order. Wait staff was also constantly circling and were very quick with every request.

I did not make use of the pool or outside terraces, but I knew they were available.

Room service was also excellent and I made several calls all of which were provided in a matter of minutes.

There is a high end restaurant and bar at the top of the hotel. Although I didn't eat at the restaurant, it seemed very good and elegant. Definitely not a shorts and t-shirt place. The bar was also classy but a bit more relaxed. Views of the city were tremendous and there was live entertainment every night. Service in the bar was very good but drink prices were very expensive. However, some food was also available in the bar and it was excellent and inexpensive. So I recommend eating in the bar, just don't drink too much if you want to save some money. I read in another post about prostitutes in the bar, but I saw no such thing.

Wireless internet was available in every room but was expensive. However, pricing was standard for high end hotels.

I do agree that the hotel is starting to look a little ragged around the edges, but considering the standard for Turkey and other available hotels in Izmir, nothing to detract from the overall experience.

Overall, a great stay. Definitely recommend for those visiting Izmir for an overnight or extended stay.

“Great service but getting dated”

Stayed here for a conference. Room was large with great views and clean (housekeeping was excellent) but decor was beginning to look a bit dated. Great buffet breakfast, both food and service. Good gym and small indoor pool. A downside was the lack of a pleasant outdoor area - the sun deck was very disappointing (rusting chairs and astroturf) and the terrace outside the restarant had no chairs on it. The new Swissotel which is under construction next door (due to open this year) looks very interesting and Hilton will need to invest in their hotel if they are to deal with the competition.

I have stayed there a few times. I have stayed at several Hiltons in Europe and the United States and this is one of my favorites. The atmosphere is more laid back than most Hiltons (far less stuffy). That may be why it is so appealing. Would not think of staying anywhere else in Izmir.

The restaurants are great and the breakfast is outstanding. The view from the upper floor is awesome since you can watch the ships come into port.

Service is great, especially laundry and housekeeping services, and staff is very friendly.
