“13 Day Turhish Treasures by Gate1 Travel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

The 13 Day Turkish Treasures is worthwhile and very inexpensive. To our surprise, the food is the best among 5 tours (countries) we joined w/ Gate1. It has the mix flavor (taste) of Eastern and Western food.

Istanbul (Constantinople, the capital of Eastern Roman Empire) is the core of Byzantine Architecture & Ottman Architecture. Greek and Roman left countless ruins and culture treasures (such as Homer's Iliad, 13th century BC Trojan War........) throughout western & central part of Turkey (where we toured) during thousands year of ruling there. In 11 days of motorcoach we visited Haghia Sophia, Blue Mosque & Basilica Cistern (Roman built underground water storage) in Istanbul. In Izmir, we toured Ephesus (a Greek city first built in 1000 BC), one of the greatest ruined cities in the western world. In Ankara (the capital), we visited Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, named museum of the year in 1997. I was amazed at how ancient the history is and the intrigue culture treasure that Turkey inherits from Greek and Roman.

Especially we enjoyed the tour guider's information throughout the entire trip. Nesli is so knowledgeable and organized that we were able to follow daily itinerary on time and see/learn a lot about Turkey (past & present) during our trip.

We have joined Gate 1 so far 5 tours and enjoyed all. All their tour guides are very professional. But Nesli is the best among all. She has wide range of knowledge about Turkey, from history, culture, architecture in the past to political, social and economic status at the present time.

“Tura Tours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

We had several tours organised by our cruise ship through Tura Tours. One was a trip to Gallipoli which was excellent with a knowledgeable and informative guide. There is a review of that trip under Gallipoli. Tura then organised a major event in Feyithe for the majority of the ships passengers, over 590 people attended an open air meal and entertainment event. It was well organised, the theme of the night was a Turkish wedding and the tables and chairs were dressed as though we were wedding guests. A 5 course meal was served, cooked on site by a huge number of chefs and service was very good. The show was well staged and colourful. We were lucky it was good weather as they had used a beach club as the venue. Tura did very well in catering for such a huge number. The owner of the company was present and came round to talk to people at every table.

“Tura Turizm is EXCELLENT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

We took a 12 day Norwegian Cruise of the Med. In nearly every port, we took a guided tour. The cruise line had several tour companies under contract, but we found that through a cruise line or a private vacation, "Tura Turizm" is by far the best for any tours in Izmir and Instanbul. We were totally impressed with their professional attitude. What impressed us was the little "extras" that they provided for all the tour members. As we got on the bus, they had provided water, maps, and even some special keepsakes to remember the trip. The guides in both cities were so very interesting and we never got bored with any of the trivia about special sites. They were INDEED the best of all the tours we experienced in 8 different ports. JOB WELL DONE!!!

“Travel with a Guide - best Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

WE cruised into Izmir Port and took a local tour with an experienced guide. Well worth the effort as we were shown all the top spots around the city - a thriving bustling place - Being May 2013 it was warming up weather-wise and one with fair skin would burn up without proper protection slip, slop, slap. Take bottled water with you, Buy some souvenirs as a record of your visit and soak up the local atmosphere - but use a Tour Guide as it is the best value for your Euro.

“Nazim U. of Tours-by-Locals”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2012

My wife and I recently arranged a day-trip of both Pergamon and Izmir through Tours-by-Locals, and selected Nazim U. for the tour. The usual experience is to visit Pergamon alone for its relics, but we were interested in Izmir as an active city with a few relics of its own, and wanted to have some exposure to it in addition to Pergamon. We exchanged several e-mails with Nazim and agreed to a full-day combined tour. He came to our Izmir airport hotel on time in a small white car which he keeps immaculately clean. It could handle three passengers comfortably with him driving. On the drive to Pergamon he provided historical information and descriptions of the passing territory. His English is completely fluent, and he was open and unreserved about both good and bad features of Turkish history and contemporary conditions. He answered questions fully, with good information and occasional humor. He took us around the entire Pergamon site with explanations of its original appearance, particularly the Trajan temple with its prominent positioning and complex construction, the limited relics of the famous altar (the best parts of which are now in Berlin ...), the steep theater, and then the nearby Asklepion complex with its multiple components. We stopped midday for "lunch" at a roadside restaurant, but when it was clear that we weren't very interested in eating a real meal, he curtailed his own lunch, and we headed off to Izmir. He drove us through busy traffic in this very active and large city, pointed out recent development, described neighborhoods as we drove through them, and showed us areas of ongoing archeological work, clearing of "illegal" housing, and a large hilltop park with good views of the city and harbor, where he also was sorry to acknowledge that the park deserved far better maintenance than it was getting. He got us back to our hotel at the airport by the end of the day. We considered it time well-spent, and we would recommend him highly for a tour of this region.
