When i stayed at the Atlantic Apartments in June 2005, i was pleasantly surprised how immaculate the rooms were. It is the best holiday i have ever had and with the accommodation being 100% it made it all the better. As soon as i got there with family we were made to feel very welcome. The bar staff there were the best. The barmen were Zana and Emra, all they ever done was make our holiday more pleasurable, especially round the pool. There was also Linda and Ali who ran the turkish bath business, i recommend a turkish bath to anyone, especially from Linda and Ali, who are actually situated in the Atlantik apartments, value for money i say and friendly too. For meals i would recommend Characters pub, it is brilliant, the people there are also very welcoming. People to talk to there would be Metin, Canel and Ahmed, they are the main people i spoke to. Another place to eat would be the Kalyon, food is also very nice there. Then for night time amusement i would recommend Dolphin Square.

I booked the hotel last minute based upon good reviews on this site. What a mistake! The room they allocated us was filthy. Walls were caked with fungus caused by air conditioner (£4 per day). Beds had unironed torn sheets covering filthy mattresses that you just couldn't sleep on. Cooking utensils were old and filthy. Surfaces were greasy and uncleaned. Toilet was limescaled and filthy. An uncovered two-ply flex ran through the hole where the shower head used to be attached to the wall to a light fitting! Dangerous or what? The cupboard above the extractor fan displayed a similar array of uncovered wiring and what looked like the remnants of a workman's blue moulded sandwich (perhaps he got the sack half way through lunch the month previous).

The bathroom door had warped and the result was the top closed but the bottom remained a stubborn 10 cms from the jamb.

In short the room was uninhabitable.

The banisters on the stairs had cord around them (I'm not sure whether to stop children falling through or to stop them shaking).

Several people told me they had diarrhoea and the local doctor had treated ear infections. One little girl I witnessed was in agony. The murky pool perhaps could tell a tale!

Depending on which side of the apartments you were on the noise of the street or the late night drinking at the pool (to around 3.30 a.m.) meant at least we had something to listen to until dawn when we could ask to be moved sitting patiently on our towels and cases!

I could add more but I've made my point.

Have just had a very nice week at Atlantik Apart Altinkum Didim, with my wife and daughter. We should have booked a longer holiday.
The Atlantik Apart is clean and rooms are cleaned daily.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The pool with its bar and snacks was very handy. The Atlantik is ideally located for shops, beach and transport stops outside the door. The buses travel different routes so it is best to mention your destination to the driver and he will say if he is going there or not. The cost of a bus is 1 YENI TURKISH LIRA (YTL) this is about £0.40p wherever you go in the town.
A taxi will cost you 10 YTL approx £4.00
I would advise anyone going to Turkey to try to learn a little bit of the language. It goes a long way and the locals appreciate the effort you make. It would also help to read up on local customs.
Didim market is a must on a Saturday. You will do well if you haggle with the stall holders over the prices asked and quantities offered.
Tipping is expected in restraunts and bars and to hotel staff. paper money is the preferred method. We managed a boat trip and a trip to Ephesus as well as the market. Didim market was great don't overdo it though as excess baggage charges do apply on the way home from Bodrum airport. The best tip I can give is to take Immodium or similar treatment in case of upset stomach. Most treatments are available over the counter of pharmacies.
We are already planning for next year for a longer holiday but will hopefully get booked in the Atlantik again. If we cannot get there we will certainly pop in to say Hello to everyone.

3 star in Turkey is not the same as 3 star in UK.

Have just returned from a smashing holiday at The Atlantik Apts in Altinkum. I holidayed with my 2 daughters aged 25 and 27 and found there was something for everyone there. We were lucky to get a one bedroomed apt on 5th floor with a good view over the pool. Room was kept spotless by a friendly housekeeper.Everything we needed was supplied except a tea towel! Can leave dishes to dry as it is very hot. We had a great Turkish bath in the attached bath house with English speaking lady. Small problems with plumbing and electricity but seems it is usual for them to 'Go Off' at any time.
Lots of good resturants near by and local small supermarkets for all necessary items. Very little choice of booze. If I was going again I would take some duty free with me. Loved the Turkish food and found eating out reasonable.
Did lots of excursions mostly under our own steam but thorougherly enjoyed Thomson trip to Ephesus. A must do place is Bodrum. Can go by local bus or ferry on Tues or Fri only.
Only downside of this holiday was hassel from locals to go into their shop or restuarant to buy.Maybe two blond young ladies with me was the cause! Would definitely return to Turkey and if going to Altinkum would stay at the Atlantik Apts again.
