“impressive collection of seals”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2012

Most of the museum was closed due to renovation. They told that items stored in the warehouse for decades will be exhibited sometime during this year. If you are passing by, you might be still interested in seeing current sections. They have a quite impressive collection of ancient seals and a few artifacts from late Hittites and an Egyptian Sphinx. Note all the mosaics are moved to the new museum.

“Disappointment”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 27, 2012

It was a pitty to see that the museum was almost empty. Afterwards we learned that it was going to be renovated so they removed many pieces. Some of them were still presented like the fibulas, jewelry, seals etc. I would recomend you to ask first whether the renovation is finished or not. An archaelogist whom I met at the giftshop of Zeugma Museum told me that there were beautfil and important pieces waiting to presented after the renovation.

“Still worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2012

As the Zeugma mosaics have been moved to the new museum this is much depleted but still worth a short visit, with small finds from the rescue excavations and Hittite carvings. The shop is very well stocked, better than the Zuegma museum with a very friendly English speaking manager.

“The "Gypsy Girl" mosaic fragment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2012

Ancient mosaics can be found all over the Mediterranean. The mosaics in this museum are best preserved in the world. Have you seen the "Gypsy Girl" mosaic uncovered in Zeugma in 1999? The haunting look of the Gypsy Girl mosaic resembles the famous Afghan Girl of Steve McCurry-one of the most memorable images in National Geographic's history. They are from rescue excavations conducted by Gaziantep Museum and a number of international teams in an effort of emergency archaeology-a race against time in the last two decades. The site is in the area of the Birecik dam.
Zeugma ("Bridgetown") was the name of twin cities Apameia and Seleucia 50 km from Gaziantep on the Euphrates River. It was an important strategic place from the Hellenistic and Roman period which included one of the few bridges over the Euphrates.
This short documentary film “Zeugma, A Roman Town in Anatolia” takes you to the history of Zeugma: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8323657299167199011#

“Now visit Zeugma”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

This Museum used to host some of the coolest mosaics, but now they have moved to a brand new and much nicer museum across town. This one at 3TL is still dirt cheap and isn't bad to stop into for an hour or so. It has a lot of ancient stuff, the garden is full of Hittite carvings dating back 4000+ years. It just lacks the WOW factor it used to have with the mosaics.
