“carpets and comfort at Hal-Tur”

Hal-Tur Hotel

May 5, 2008

My wife and I were guests in April of 2008 for just one night. I can only confirm what the other reviews have said about this charming little hotel: good food, a very clean and well maintained property with a great location for visiting the travertines and Hierapolis. The rooms can seem a bit small but they are adequate and have outside porches. But mention should also be made of the owner's carpet shop, located next to the dining room. The owner himself, a retired teacher, is quite knowledgeable about carpets and a fair dealer on prices. So, if you're in the market, have a look at the fair selection of new and old pieces he has personally handpicked from the carpet districts of Turkey. All in all, a strong recommendation for this hotel and its owner.

We stayed at the Hal-Tur in March 2008, the staff were very helpful and welcoming, and drove us up to the entrance of the site - returning our hire car to the hotel which allowed us to have a very pleasant walk through the ancient city of Hierapolis and back down to the hotel through the travertines. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and some of them have stunning views of the travertines. The food was good and reasonably priced - as were the rooms at 50 euros per night. Although it was too early in the season for the swimming pool in the garden the children in our party enjoyed the sauna - again free of charge.

Charming place run by a whole family, fronted by 2 very helpful brothers who are the perfect hosts. The room was clean and tidy and had a great view of the travertine. I loved the garden most, with the pomegranate trees laden with pomegranates...so tempted to just reach out and pluck 1 off. According to 1 of the brothers the trees were at least 70-80 years old! The swimming pool looked really inviting though unfortunately we didn't get a chance to try it out. The dinner was delicious, and I loved the pomegranate vinegar (yes home-made from the trees in the garden) used to dress the salad! (I forgot to ask if they sold it in bottles, would have loved to bring a few home!)

“Great Hotel, Great Host and Staff”

We called from another city in Turkey and had no problem getting a room. It had a view of the travertines. The room was clean, and quiet. The pool was great for cooling off in.
Tufan and the rest of the staff were gracious hosts. He drove us up to the north entrance of the Hieropolis-travertine site so we only had to walk one way through the ruins and the travertines to the south entrance which is about 100 meters from the hotel. And on a 100 degree day, this was a blessing.
The dinners were excellent. We love calamari and we have to say the Hal-Tur's is the best we have had. Even beats Ray's Boat House in Seattle, and that's saying a lot.
Tufan was helpful in advice on things we wanted to to do in the area. Have to confess that we did buy a couple of rugs from him
(he has a small but nice collection), and they were shipped to our home in Oregon with no problem.
Good accomodations and a great bargain. Not fancy, but clean, good location, and a place where you genuinely are welcomed.
