“Excelent 4 stars hotel in Capadocia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

First of all - This is far east Turkey, so "4 stars" has specific meaning. I think that this hotel is one of the best in Capadocia, but do not expect too much. Hotel is on Half board basis, because there is no bars and restaurants in the vilage. If you like nightlife this vilage is not for you, but there is only 3 kilometers to Urgup where you can find a lots of bars and pubs. Staff is polite, food is very good. Nice base to explore Capadocia!

....with lots of stairs and no lifts. Two pools with attractive terraces. A pleasant dining room with generous breakfast and evening buffets. Efficient management. Free wi-fi. But older rooms are ridiculously small, rather tired and have small beds and half a bath. Newer rooms (4-digit numbers from 1000) are of a standard size. The hotel appears to be mainly geared to groups.

Room Tip: Insist on one of the newer rooms - numbered above 1000

Just to be clear about the room that I was offered when I arrived. It had three single beds one next to the other with enough room for the width of one shoe in between. The beds had a deep dip in the middle like U shape from the lousy/cheap mattresses. The decor looked like it was from the 60's garage sale rejects. Their floors were filthy, I would not be without a shoe on in their rooms. I had also been shown a room next to the pool, which was no better as one next to the stairs. Everything in that hotel is so tiny and ancient. Maybe if you're European it's ok for you since you're used to small rooms and the price is your only concern. However, just to be clear it was by no means a "boutique hotel." It was a sorry excuse for a hotel as was their staff who were argumentative after they knew what they had tried to pull on me for arriving so late on a guarantee. There was absolutely no reason for them to sell/give my paid "suite" room to someone else. More than likely they assumed that I wouldn't be coming in and another couple arriving earlier must have been given my room seeing as how they must have been disgruntled also. There was no excuse for this hotel not to immediately step up to the plate and apologize for not having my particular room available and as tired as I was to have to stand there for 1.5 hours arguing with them before some corrective action was taken on their behalf.
Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. If everyone here is saying these rooms are tiny/small and OLD that must tell you something! The radiator on the walls, no wi-fi for internet in the rooms and the 13" black and whiteTV that didn't work was another reason for thinking twice about staying here.
I'll be returning to Turkey in October 2012 and I will not be staying here. Don't be cheap, spend a few more dollars and you can get a much better place than this one. This hotel is not in Urgup notice how the deceptively use that as their address even though the city is actually Ortahisar... another point demonstrated by this tacky hotel for attempting to defraud tourists!

Room Tip: Stay anywhere else.

When I first entered Hotel Burcu Kaya , at first I was a bit apprehensive. It was raining, and everything had a musty feeling to it. When we were shown our room, the feeling increased, because the room was small and dark. Even with all lights on, the corners were dark. The
bathroom was good though. Didn't really have a great feeling about it. Then we went down for breakfast, and our spirits began to lift. The staff at the restaurant were great. They dont speak much English, but one cannot miss the warmth. The food was good as well. I have seen
much more food spread out in many other hotels, but here it was tasty and delicious. The service in the dining room is warm and attentive.

We stayed here for 4 days, and every day, this hotel grew on us. We started liking the cave like interiors, the garden in front, the wide terraces , the cats and the bar area which had the friendly warmth of your neighbourhood cafe. We went in spring and the swimming pool
was dry, I didnt ask though about it. This place is not huge or luxurious, it is just friendly and warm and cosy. The strength of Burcu Kaya are its staff. We felt everywhere in the Cappadokia region that the people are very warm and soft. We were sad to leave at the end of 4 days.
Going down into details, we had 2 rooms, one twin and one double. The twin was very small, the double , a bit better. The bathrooms are good, good water pressure and decent toiletteries. The only down side of this hotel is, it is in the middle of nowhere. Urgup is 5 km away and you have to take a taxi which will cost you 20 TL one way. Buses are also there, but the walk from the bus stop to hotel is a bit long and I dont think that the frequency of buses is that good.
All in all , very pleasant stay. Recommended for people who are not looking for luxury, but just a freindly , clean place to stay.

We really liked this hotel. It was very comfortable and clean with nice olive oil soaps and natural cotton bathrobes.

The setting of this hotel is really lovely. Very photogenic where you could just aim your camera and the pictures would come out looking really scenic. It is a quaint hotel representative of what the Cappadocia region of Turkey was all about. Our room was a bit too compact although it was clean with bare necessities. I suppose it was for the cave like impact. We were a bit disappointed that there was no tea/ coffee making facility nor complimentary bottled drinking water provided. The bed was not as comfortable as we would like it to be (mattress too soft) and we had trouble adjusting the temperature of the shower because it could just switch from being just right to either very cold or very hot. But we really love the wonderful spread and the variety of choices that we had for breakfast and dinner, The fruits and vegetables served were organically grown and the dishes were superb. The staff were pleasant, courteous and friendly. The highlight of our stay was a hot air balloon ride which we feel should be on everyone's must do list in Cappadocia. The view and experience are just superbly fantastic and unforgettable.

The hotel isn't in a cave, but I didn't think it was, so wasn't upset by that. Staff are friendly and the meals are good. Our bathroom was a bit strange - half bath / half shower but the pressure was good and there was plenty of hot water. The rooms are tiny, but the beds are super comfy. We had to check out early to drive back to Istanbul (about 7am) and had a knock on the door about 10 minutes before we left to check if we had taken anything from the mini-bar, which I thought was a bit strange. I's shop around and see what else is around. Cappadocia is a great little town!
