“EAT AND WATCH”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Good and plenty food served by an informal cook (warmed in the microwave dishes) / friendly waiter / host / kind tour guide (at the end of the dinner took us to see the view from the tower town).
The food is all home-made with attention to quality but not the aesthetics of the dishes.
Alternative experience to a dinner at the restaurant!

“A warm welcome, lovely views and home-cooked food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2013

Ismail invited us to dine at his restaurant when we walked past him in the park. We were a little suspicious of someone touting for business but I guess at the start of the season, there's little enough business to go around and fortune favours the bold.
We went along a couple of evenings later and were warmly welcomed. He seemed to be single-handed and it took a while for meze, bread and drinks to appear. However, the views over Urgup as dusk settled were beautiful enough to make up for this.
Again, perhaps because it was the start of the season, there wasn't a great deal of choice on the menu - but Ismail was more than happy to accommodate my sister's wheat intolerance and made us both delicious food (kofte for me and chicken for her). The mezes and bread were as tasty as any I've had in Turkey and Ismail's non-intrusive hospitality and local knowledge added to the evening considerably.
The best part was the price - including a beer it was 40TL total, which is less than 20 Euros. Compared to a lot of the over-priced, low quality offerings in Cappadocia, we were exceptionally happy with that.
My only constructive comment (and this seems to be a Turkish national failing) is that the main courses would have been even more delicious if they were served piping hot and on warmed plates. I'm not sure why Turkey is so bereft of hot food - I've found it everywhere: Istanbul, Ankara, Fethiye, Kas, Konya. Is it just local custom? It's one I am happy to break with.
If you're staying in Urgup and you want decent food at decent prices in a nice setting, I heartily recommend hunting out the Panorama Cafe. I will return.

“Turkish Delight with a Panoramic View”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

On our first evening in Cappadocia we met Ismail while on a walk in near his cafe. What a romantic and intimate surprise his restaurant was, with his wood burning stove and incredible views of the town of Urgup. It was late and we were lucky to be his personal guests that evening. He created a delicious curried chicken, served with a bottle of fine Cappadocian wine. Throughout the meal he spoke with us about the unique, off-the-beaten path places to see in the area. Our time was limited; so we were very happy to have him guide us to the special spots. We took a private tour with him, and saw ruins of churches built in caves. Ismail even had a church which was closed opened for us to see. He showed us all of the unique highlights of the area. He was full of information about the Cappadocia and the history. We were also pleased that he did not waste our time taking us on a shopping tour. We visited the Turasan winery to sample Cappadocian wine and met the owner. Ismail made our stay in the area very special and took the best photos of us were have from our entire holiday in Turkey.

“Worth searching for”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

We loved this small and hidden restaurant. Had to search for it a bit but it was well worth it. Great vegetarian food and the owner is so kind and helpful to his guests. Quiet, authentic and a great view. Perfect.

“Don't miss this experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

Step outside your usual routine and spend an evening at the Panorama Cafe. We were walking nearby on our first night in Urgup when Ishmail approached us and next thing we were booked to return the following evening! It is one of our best memories from three wonderful months overseas. A unique evening that was not just having dinner. We watched Ishmail cook, learned heaps about life in Urgup, (even meeting his neighbours) enjoyed a great view and his fascinating company - a truly memorable experience.
