Reflecting the area Kaya Pension is a comfortable and very reasonably-priced homely place to stay in a remarkable location shaped by a fascinating and utterly unique integration of culture, religion, history and geology that is still alive today. The pension is tucked away but has great views from the terrace and is ideal if you are a little self-sufficient and are exploring the area for a few days.

Uçhisar is not flat. Anywhere. It invites you to get out and stroll around and especially to the top of Uçhisar Castle to be rewarded by its incredible surrounding views of the amazing geology of the landscape which has a real wow factor. By contrast go into one of the extraordinary underground cities where thousands of people lived or go walking amongst the many sculptured valleys. Ask the very helpful reception (Izzat and Rabia) for advice and help with experiencing seeing these.

Room Tip: Room 12 has a lovely corner terrace that catches the afternoon and evening sun.

We stayed 2 nights and felt that Kaya Pension & Restaurant was friendly and like staying at a friend's place.

The rooms are small but clean and ours came with a balcony.

The owner and reception girl were veru friendly, dishing out good sighseeing advice, and we felt that we did not waste much time as the route of the day were in place and we covered without any guides or joining tours. Hence we could enjoy the sights more.

We helped ourselves with cay during our stay and we were shown a cave disco, which had a good sound system and the cave had good atmosphere.

Another worth mentioning is the Turkish dinner. The food was delicious and worth the price.

We started with corba, very delicous as the soup was freshly prepared with all the right spices.

Next were the 4 salads spread served and we wiped them off with our bread.

The main course was kofte and tavuk sis, all well marinated and again it was more like home cooked food. The kofte had the right spices and most importantly not too salty. The skewered chicken was well marinated and was delicious too.

Tatli was last to round up our meal and fresh baklava was served.

During the dinner, we also enjoyed the traditional Turkish music and songs performed by the owner. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner and dance.

Overall, Uchisar is a good location to base for our Cappadicia trip.

PROS:
The food!!!: Delicious home-made Turkish dinner served every night (you have to book it earlier in the day) at the hotel's restaurant.
Great view, most of the rooms have spacious terraces.
Staff is very friendly and keen to help you out planning your visit, also the owner plays traditional Turkish music some nights after dinner. Large, comfortable bedrooms with clean and spacious bathrooms (not luxurious).

CONS:
That it was over to soon

The morning we were supposed to arrive at Cappadoccia, it snowed rather heavily. Whilst we were waiting for our transfer flight (which was delayed) from Istanbul to Cappadoccia, Izzet (the owner) called to check what time we would arrive. We found out after we arrived at the pension that we were the only guests that day, and Izzet and his colleague (really sweet lady) were busy cleaning up the place for us! Despite being the only guests, they prepared a huge buffet spread for us for breakfast the next day.

Our cave room was comfortable and looked out to a huge terrace. Izzet and his colleague were lovely and extremely helpful. They were not at all pushy with trips etc, which we really appreciated.

The pension was also located near Pigeon Valley, and it took us about 1.5 - 2hours to trek down to Goreme. It was also about 10 minutes' walk to Uchisar Castle.

We heard from another pension owner that Izzet is a fantastic musician. Will request for a performance the next time we are there!

The hosteses were extremely polite, familiy hotel in the caves. The room are in ancient stiyle in the caves so you cen feel the place, the food is hommade and very delicios. they makr you musical program also and makes everything to feel comfort. The location is perfect because it is at the beginning of the Goreme Valey and you can directly start to sighseeng from their. Just to add that the street where is the Pensyon is very small and it was not on put in our GPS navigation so before go ask the hostes to explain you in more details how to reach eat. Comparing with other similar hotels tha price is very good also so i deffinetly woulg recommended.
