My wife and I and two other adult family members stayed at the Sultan Cave Suites for four days as part of a two week tour of Turkey. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and, although they were dark as you'd expect for cave rooms, each had an outdoor patio with seating and beautiful views over Goreme where we could watch the hot air balloons float by each morning. We split our stay between two rooms. Room 307, a Junior Suite cave room, had a queen bed in the main room and two twins in a separate windowless room that would be good for kids although some may find it claustrophobic. Room 304 was a suite cave room with a separate bedroom and a large front room which was perfect for sharing conversation and a bottle of local wine in the evening with the rest our party.
Staying in a cave room is quite a treat in Cappadocia, and Sultan's give us that experience while still giving us upscale hotel amenities. If you take my advice and stay in one of the cave rooms, just remember, its still a cave so it can feel a bit musty and you may have to go outside the room to use the hotel's wi-fi.
The breakfast was the best of the hotel breakfasts of our two week trip with the broadest selection of items that included 3-4 types of olives, multiple breads and cheeses, figs, dates, and a wide range of other dried fruits that were a nice complement to the fresh yogurt. And omelets on request. We had dinner one of our nights at the Seten, the hotel restaurant, and found it on par with the best of the restaurants on our trip; great food, excellent service, and intimate separate dining rooms with beautiful views. One tip - have an earlier dinner before the crowds and head for the furthest room from the restaurant entrance, a corner room with 3 tables and a commanding view of Goreme.
Service was excellent. The staff responded quickly to any request and went out of their way to avoid any inconvenience to us. There is a nice lobby area where Mehmet the owner and his staff are eager to help with questions or suggestions on things to do or see. The Sultan is associated with Turkish Heritage Travel which has its office at the Kelebek Suites next door. Turkish Heritage planned our Turkish vacation and we took a number of their day tours in Cappadocia, all of which were wonderful and highly recommended. The lobby also has a computer available to guests.
The Sultan is located above the Goreme city center but its only a short walk to town. We found it quiet in the evenings being away from the bustle of Goreme which was wasn't that crowded in mid-May but I'm told is much busier during the peak season.
There may be other nice cave suite hotels in Goreme, but after staying at Sultan Cave Suites, I can't imagine looking.
