“Goreme Open Air Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

Until we visited I had no idea about the long history of cave dwelling in this area, nor about the significance of this area during the early days, second and third century, of Christianity. Be prepared for a lot of walking.

“Beautiful place... A must visit in Turkey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

Turkey is a brilliant amalgamation of Culture, History and Modernity and the History is best exemplified at the Goreme Open Air Museum in Cappadocia.

We visited on a beautiful sunny day in May 2014 and spent about 3-4 hours exploring the caves. The place requires a bit of walking and can be crowded during peak season but is worth it.

With several dozen caves converted into churches, dorms, residences etc the Museum has an ethereal aura. Seeing how the persecuted community lived can be best experienced with an Audio Tour (audio guides are available at the entrance) and the beautiful frescos/ paintings are a delight even though a lot of these have been restored over the years.

The views at the museum and surrounding hills are spectacular. A must visit and do check o

“Must-go in Cappadocia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

Very nice and informative attraction in Cappadocia. I suggest you visit early in the morning before it gets too hot and the crowds arrive. Caves are small and paths to some caves are narrow so you do not want to wait for your turn in the sun. There are lots of pastries, bedrooms and churches which do start to look the same. You need to pay extra admission to Dark Church.

“Time your visit at the end of the day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2014

Great museum, very hot some months, enter later in the day, about 4:30 or 5:00 pm. We were amazed at the creation and use of the cave homes and churches.
