“Great sightseeing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

This open-air museum is rather a archeological sight where you can find very old caves. These were monasteries, churches and houses. It is pretty interesting and also you get a great view of the valley.

“Stunning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 16, 2013

If you are in the area, you should not miss this. The churches & dwellings built into the hillsides have to be seen to be believed. I had no idea at all what to expect, and I was bowled over by it. I took hundreds of photos. Provides a real insight into Turkish Christian history.

Well you will come close to the actual caves now. Basically this museum is about the original caves which was used for hiding by christian centuries back. they have Fresco paintings in caves which was used as church . prayer room etc. there is also a kitchen and a dining room .
its good as you get a taste that how they used to live in these areas.

“Camera phobia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

This is a very interesting place to visit. The tiny churches carved into the hills are great and the frescoes are particularly historic and beautiful.Unfortunately pictures are not allowed.I understand why we can't use a flash but the only reason to deny photos otherwise is the cash grab at the ever present souvenir stand beside the exit.Sad really.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Shame they don't provide guide pamphlets, however they do have audio guides. Fantastic museum although it's a bit small compare to the Skansen Open-Air Museum in Stockholm which i've recently visited. Gave you a brilliant view on how people used to live in the little caves, where they used to pray, cook, dine .... It's a must visit in town!
