We recently came back from a wonderful 3 week stay in Turkey and brought back four beautiful Turkish carpets with us. We had tried shopping around in a few places early on in our trip, but were never satisfied with the price, experience or pressure to buy. We were also planning on visiting the Cappadocia region and had heard that it’s the place to buy at a reasonable price. When we made it to Goreme, we were completely entranced with the landscape - it was like nothing we had ever seen before! It is a fantastic place to visit and we were very excited to bring home something special to remind of us of our visit every day. In Turkey, there was an overwhelming number of choices on where to go to get your carpet. Goreme wasn’t any different, and after browsing in a few places we asked at our hostel if they had a recommendation on where to buy carpets in town. It was suggested to us to try Rose Carpets due to their reputation of being honest, knowledgeable and with a large selection of carpets. We decided to give it a try, and as soon as met the owner Hasan and his son, Osman, we knew we came to the right place. They were incredibly friendly, warm, and genuine. We were offered some tea and Osman showed us and explained to us every sort of carpet, kilim, and sumak, their history, symbolism, and colours. We really only intended on buying two (one for ourselves and another for a family member) but fell in love with a couple more, and in the end, we got four high-quality carpets delivered to our door in Canada and spent about the same than some other places were asking for only two. Buying a Turkish carpet is so much more than just buying a carpet, it is a history lesson, a feast for your eyes, and a really cool experience. What made our experience at Rose Carpets so wonderful was that Osman made us feel more like friends than just potential money, and was very warm, and genuinely interested in talking to and getting to know the visitors to his family’s store.
