5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2011

Me and my 17 year old best friend stayed here for ten days. Perfect location, cheap and cheerful with very friendly staff. Minutes from the beach & restaurants bars etc. Beautiful white building with flowers and a relaxing pool- not loud and disruptive. Perfect for families & couples & groups of friends! easy and simple rooms, will definately return soon!

My boyfriend and I stayed here in September 2010 and had a fantastic time at Golden Gate.

Having read some of the previous reviews we were a little unsure of what to expect but we were very pleasantly suprised when we arrived. The room was very spacious, comfortable and clean. Ours had quite a big balcony which caught the sun from early morning to late in the afternoon. Free airconditioning also which we didn't expect. The housekeepers even made our bedsheets into swans etc when they cleaned the room which my boyfriend loved.

The pool area was very large with plenty of sunloungers both in and out of the sun. The waiters and the barmen were very friendly, the food was fantastic and very reasonably priced. We were baffled by some of the previous reviews complaining about the price of food served at the hotel when in fact it was around the same price as the restaurants down the road!!!!

The hotels location was a huge bonus, less than a 5 minute walk to the beach were all the bars and restaurants are and a 5 minute Dolmus ride away from Kusadasi town, which is definately worth visiting.

Would definately recommend staying here.

We arrived at the Golden Gate at five thirty in the morning after a horrendis jorney. The coach took two hours not one as we were told. There are no lifts and we were left to carry our own casesd up two flight of stairs and one of our party is 78.. Were left with no instructions as to where the light switch was . We did not make breakfast and our first experience of the food was dinner. There were two choices, take it or leave it. to be fair the soup and salad was for the most part ok. The main course left a lot to be desired. Turkey stew , which nobody touched. And that set the scene for the rest of the week. If you didn't like it , tough.Desserts were melon and a very sweet turkish dish. We asked for ice cream instead and was told sorry can't do. I have never been to a hotel where there were no choices and where the only choice was so poor.. Having said all that , the hotel itself was fine. Staff were very friendly and it was clean. I also thought we were entitled to a meal on our last night but was told not. Is this the norm? Would I go back again to this hotel, NO. I was very surprised at how expensive Kushadasi was. A whiskey was anything between £6 to £7.50. The cheapest bottle of wine was £12 and it was cheap wine.. Over all we still had a good time because the people are lovely TC Manchester

I stayed at the Golden Gate Apartments in Kusadasi in early Sept 10' for one week (2nd-9th) I was travelling with a group of friends. We wanted something basic and inexpensive as we knwe we wouldn't be spending much time indoors! When we arrived we were welcomed by very friendly reception who checked us in quickly and efficiently. We had booked two rooms as we were a group of 2 girls and 3 guys. Our room (Girls room) was BASIC as im sure most of the rooms are all the same bar a few. As yu open the door you have the shower and toilet/bathroom sink on yur right hand side and the kitchenette on your left, So therefore your bathroom and kitchen were together in the entrance. (Not ideal when people were calling to the door and someone was in the shower!!) our room consisted of 2 single beds and free standing wardrobe, Dressing unit and large mirror, an Air Con unit (which you pay extra for at Reception) TV which had english speaking channels as well as Turkish and other foreign channels. Our Room was at the Back of the hotel on the ground floor so our balcony was nothing major just a table with 2 chairs facing trees and looking at houses and buildings behind us. We didn't mind any of this as we knew it was just a place to sleep and showrer! The Boys room was the exact same except wit 3 single beds. Rooms are small and Basic. The location however was perfect! 5 mins walk brought you onto Ladies Beach which is where we spent most of our time to be honest. Ladies Beach has some Fantastic restaurants check out OASIS and MONALISA towards the end of the beach they were gorgeous and the staff were very friendly. Also if booking excursions check out Sundial Travel on Ladies Beach and speak to a man called J.C. We can safely say he made our hol without a doubt! We booked Turkish Baths, The Jeep Safari, Aqua fantasy, Sea Park and Dolphon Park as well as Scuba diving and the banana boats to name a few. Main Shopping Bazaar and Bar Street are a 5-7 min cab journey away which costed about 10TL From the Hotel. The swimming pool in the hotel was fine average size and also a separate Kids area, Pool snack Bar was fine for something light . The staff in the hotel were very friendly especially Emu at the Bar He even played our CD's during the Day! All in all a Great hotel for the Location and if yu don't mind going Basic then I would advise it as a good spot as if your plan is to stay out all night clubbing like us then it won't bother you!

This hotel has left me with mixed feelings even after getting home. On check in I had a quick look around and whilst not being blown away with the quality of the room, shower, kitchen etc. it was clean and suited our purpose for cheap accommodation.

The rooms are very basic, even though there was an extractor fan and saucepans there was no hob so not sure what you are meant to use these for (a small matter as I was not planning on cooking anyway for the week but it made me laugh)

The location of the hotel cannot be beaten, less than five minutes walking has you down at Ladies beach and a myriad of excellent restaurants, bars and markets. As the week progressed we were especially glad to be so close to the beach and spent much of our time down along the promenade.

The pool area is OK without being brilliant. There are plenty of loungers, the water is clean but beware of ants, there are tonnes of them as a result of careless guests dropping food near the pool area. The restaurant was actually a pleasant surprise serving quite good food, it is a good option for those days where you want to maximize pool time and are just too lazy to go out for lunch or dinner.

The staff are pretty friendly and generally receptive to requests. One observation I had as the week progressed was the lack of towel changing / bed clothing changing that occurred. We made the point of leaving our towels on the floor one day to signal to the cleaning lady we would like them changed only to find them outside on our balcony drying later that night. Perhaps you have to request these from reception but really it should be standard at this stage in any hotel regardless of star rating.

We found prices in the hotel to be average also, there are certainly cheaper and better value bars and restaurants out there so I would recommend heading out for meals as often as you can. Perhaps what best sums up our opinion of the Golden Gate is the fact that while we may some day come back to Kusadasi, we would not stay in the same hotel. This is a great pity given the location, with an improved impetus from management and an improvement in quality this could be one of the busiest hotels in Kusadasi. Our advice, look elsewhere but if money is an issue I have stayed in a lot worse.

You just need to weigh up your priorities

Cheap, good location, however apparently two types of room some nice I heard? and some like ours looked as though 3 teenage boys had just partied there for a week and the hotel staff hadn't really cleaned it only changed the linen. furnishings were also run down, general maintenance of hotel also poor, wouldn't recommend trying to self cater here nor would I recommend half board, snack bar food ok if you want chips wouldn't recommend anything else. Pool area ok, some staff friendly but on whole couldn't recommend this, treat yourself spend a bit more and enjoy your hol!.
