“Great day in Ephesus!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2015 NEW

My wife and sister were with me for a great day in Ephesus. Denizhan Pekoz was a great tour guide and met us at the Izmir Airport and took us straight to Ephesus. Denizhan was a wonderful source of information on all the local area, Turkey and really made Ephesus come alive for us. He and the driver gave us a great day and then took us all the way back to our hotel in Izmir.

It was a beautiful day and Denizhan made the trip especially easy for us to walk and stop for fun tourist stuff. Being a history major, I especially enjoyed the amazing story of several cities all arising in the Ephesus area. My wife and sister enjoyed the tourist stuff and had fun shopping. All of us enjoyed the great food at a local restaurant. Denizhan kept the pace full, but gave time for breaks and knew so much information.

We would recommend this tour to all friends and would be excited to tour other sites with Denizhan.

Excited for this special once in a life time trip,

Dan and Tricia Dougherty

“Great Tours!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2015

We hired TransBalkan tours for Istanbul and Kusadasi. Finding them at the cruise port was easy and efficient. Our transportation in both cases was a new, clean van/bus. We received a driver and a tour guide for the day. The cost of the tours did not include parking or entrance fees. In both cities we were asked if we were interested to visit a leather demonstration, we politely declined and we were not bothered again after that.

Our guide in Istanbul was Eddie (Idikut), an older gentleman. We were a group of 3 young couples, so when we first laid eyes on him we were slightly concerned about how our day would turn out. He wasn't all that flexible in the 'program' we booked, but was very knowledgeable and kept up with our quick pace. We had a large luxury bus/van with friendly driver to take us around for the day. At lunch time Eddie suggested some restaurants to eat at along the touristy strip - we wondered if he was receiving kick-back for taking us to the restaurant of his choice. We ended up wandering around on our own and found more food choices further down the street.

Our guide in Kusadasi was Esgay (sp?). She was very knowledgeable, and spoke good English. Our driver was professional and friendly. At the end of the tour she recommended some places to eat that were a little farther away from the tourist areas. There was no pressure at all to view rug making or leather demonstration.

“A visit to Ephesus and Artemis Temple”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2014

I contacted Denizhan and from day one he was very professional. We wanted a private tour for 5 people. We agreed on the price. He kept in touch with me, did not require a deposit nor a credit card.
We arrived in Izmyr and he was there waiting for us. His wife, who is also a professional guide, was our guide. Our time was limited but we could see both sites before returning to the cruise. Our group is not much for stores, but one lady wanted to see the leather store. By our request we were taken there. So, we were not in an organized tour, but on a private tour of about 6 hours. The guide and driver were both professional, cooperative and delivered on their commitment. We were very please and highly recommend this tour as a private tour.

“Good...and not so good”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2014

We did not book directly with Trans Balkan, it was through another agency. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and went out of their way to help me with my challenged mobility. And, the lunch we had at the rug place was delicious. Their English was also very good, they were easy to understand. All of that being said, we had a miserable experience at the rug place having been led there to see how silk was made. There was no mention of this being a shopping stop...which we would have declined. So, not only were we exposed to the initial selling experience but we were hounded all the way to the van to buy, buy, buy...even with 'no', 'no', 'no'. Traveler beware of visits to see how silk, ceramics, or leather goods are made. The ceramics experience was OK, at least we weren't hounded to buy. I would recommend them on their knowledge and service alone; just beware of the stops being offered.

“Outstanding Customer Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2014

I booked a shore excursion tour for 11 "cruisers" with Denizhan several months before our trip. He was very patient and accommodating each time I increased the group numbers. During the booking process I explained that our group was not interested in ANY shopping stops. As is turns out, I learned the tour agencies are subsidized by the leather/ceramic/rug vendors, so a lot of guides will not accept "no-shopping" tours. If you don't want to shop, just let Denizhan know up front, and he will make every attempt to "work with you". If you choose a no-shopping tour, please leave your guide a nice gratuity; one that is appropriate for the service you received.
We were scheduled to be in Kusadasi on Oct 1, but due to bad weather in Mykonos, we had to divert the ship to Kusadasi on Sept. 29. Of course I panicked, fearful the date change would cause us to be left without a tour. However, when Celebrity phoned Denizhan about the date change, he had been monitoring port traffic and had already made arrangements for us. Now that's customer service! We were met at the cruise port at the appointed time. As it turned out, our guide was Denizhan's wife, and in no way did she force us to stop anywhere we didn't want to. We chose the biblical Ephesus tour, which I highly recommend to everyone, not just Christians. We enjoyed a traditional Turkish lunch (buffet) at a family operated cafe. The food was very good, and was served many foods eaten by Americans. I highly recommend Denizhan's company for great pricing and friendly/competent guides.
