We stayed 9 days at Paloma beach hotel in June 2007. Hotel is nice, clean, staff is very polite and always trying their best to help you. There are some great swimming pools, spacious and perfectly clean. Beach is superb, enough lounges. Beautiful gardens around, they really look after the surroundings. Food was very good. Entertainment team is also lovely, although the daytime activities are every day the same. But if you get to know the guys, they are so funny and it isn't boring at all.
Don't miss the view from the corridor on the 8th floor!!!!!
The overall experience is very positive.
Now the negatives. (I repeat: The overall experience is very positive! even this part is longer than describing the positives)
There is only a few downs in the hotel ifself. Bathroom was very small, the shower curtain went mouldy and we had to shower with hot water (really unpleasant after day on the sun). But if you wait for about 5 minutes and don't flush the toilet it will become just very warm not hot. :)
We are a couple (28 and 22) but this hotel was full of families and older people. They were mainly german, which wasn't problem for us but just to let you know...
Some of the waiters could be a little bit annoying when serving. They try to be funny at all times, specially the ones who can speak german/english. They joke with kids, which is ok, but they would even lift a baby from a pram and kiss it without asking, which I don't find ok. But majority of the staff is great and professional.
There is different story outside the hotel. Side is full of shops and restaurants. Do not spoil your holiday being silly when out and shopping. If you don't know how to haggle, don't buy anything expensive. It's not worth it. The shop owners will get you sooner or later. We have seen some people from the hotel buying watches. Everyone know it's fake but it isn't for a couple of pounds. And they broke down the same day of the purchase. The shop owners are sometimes pushy but if you are careful and say firmly NO (nein in german is better) you will be fine. The same stands for eating or drinking out. Check the prices, they were trying to sell us cocktails for 8 euros!!! Say no and leave, you will find better place. We ate in restaurant Gul (not sure about the name) in the middle of the town. The landlady was swedish. It was EXCELLENT dinner. Service very polite, no forcing into anything.
Another bad experience was when taken out by one of the hotel staff. We were group of 8 english speaking people and went to Shamata disco, which is about 3 minutes walk from the hotel across the main road. The hotel staff go out after hours quite often and they will take you with them if they see you somewhere drinking. Once it was good night but this time in Shamata (again not sure about the spelling) it was a disaster. Prices very stretched 1beer for 7 lyras (almost 3 pounds). When paying they said they didn't have any change. Then tried to give us some sort of mixture euros/lyras which was terribly not enough. When we asked to speak to the boss, miracle happened, there was enough change.
My advice for holiday in Turkey. Be relaxed, it's not absolutely perfect there, but it's great value for your money. Be careful when out of your hotel, everyone wants a bit of your money. It's your own fault if you let someone to spoil your stay there.
I will definitely go back.
