The Paloma Beach is a wonderful hotel, the location is excellent, with views over the pool and beach. We stayed for just one week and had such a good experience that we hope to go back there in the not too distant future. The bedroom was well sized and kept very clean. The food in the restaurant was wonderful and the waiters and restaurant staff very pleasant, friendly and helpful. The pool was very clean and we never had a problem getting a lounger, even if we left it until later in the day to go to the pool. The Animation Team were wonderful and we wished we had half their energy and patience. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. The Turkish Spa is a must and very reasonably priced. Cannot stress how good this hotel is.

“Get up early to get a sunbed”

Paloma Beach Hotel Side

Aug 14, 2007

We stayed at the hotel for one week in July (2 adults and 1 child). I thought the hotel was lovely and very clean and the pools were good, but yet again another problem in getting a sunbed in the morning. Most people were getting up by 6.00 a.m. to get a sunbed - I think this is unacceptable for a hotel that is meant to be 5*. When I am holiday, I really don't want to have to get up that early. The food was very good with the exception of the evening meals - no choice really - lots of veal and tongue - yuk - and also a very poor selection for children. All in all, the hotel is really nice, but I think they could sort out the sunbed problem.

“The hotel was lovely we really enjoyed the stay”

We stayed at the Paloma Beach Hotel, all-inclusive at the beginning of June 07 for 2 weeks.

The hotel was lovely we really enjoyed the stay, although I should point out the guests are mainly German (it certainly wasn’t a problem for us). The hotel is mainly for families and couples, there is a kids club during the day and in the evening a kid’s music/dance hour. Don’t be put off because the German children were so good; we commented that we had never been away where the children were so well behaved, and because of this there are no screaming parents! (If the hotel were full of English it would be a different story). Paloma Beach is on a hill over looking the swimming pools, gardens and beach, so if you have difficulty with mobility it may not be the best choice; although there are lifts, they are quite small.

The hotel was very clean and tidy, with well-kept gardens and swimming pools. The food was good and there were 3 a la carte restaurants for dinner if you wanted a change from the usual buffet style, you do of course need to book these. The staffs were very friendly and polite (although as another review says they could be over the top with the children – I think it is their nature) the hotel offers everything you need to enjoy your holiday except rum! My partner said the Turkish Effes beer was very nice. Try the Turkish bath at the hotel as we think it is better value than one of the organised trips and of course you get longer.

The animation team that ran the activities during the day and performed shows in the evening were exceptional, they were very friendly, smiley and happy at all times (they work about 14 hrs a day). The shows they put on in the evenings were fun and very professional.

Paloma Beach is about a 10 minute bus drive outside of the main town of Said buses run every 15 minutes so easy to get to, it is well worth the visit lots of history and ruins to see also has a lovely harbour with restaurants and bars. We had a lovely seafood meal at “Liman” and Fidel our waiter was great. The wine in Turkey is not that good but in this restaurant had an exquisite bottle of wine but it was 80 euros. I left my mobile phone there and guess what it was still there the next day, they have a lost property and some of the items have been there for 5 years!

While away we went to Brilliant Jewellers in Said where we purchased a ring (ask for Ozzie) we got an amazing deal on a diamond ring if purchased in the UK it would have cost a lot more, (this is the Jewellers recommended by Thomas Cook).

Not all shops are like this though you should beware when out and about the Turkish do hassle you (part of their culture) be very careful when buying things, everything you see is fake and one they are not that cheap although do barter; and two they aren’t always good quality. We went to Manavgat Market and bought a watch for 40 liras the glass fell out of it as soon as we were on the coach and 2 days after we got home it stopped working. We also had a bad experience with a watch that we purchased in a shop down the road from the hotel, a couple of hours after purchasing it the watch fell off my partners wrist (the metal strap had broken) he went back to the Jewellers and they said they’d fix it which they did the same thing happened the next day they said they’d fix it again as they didn’t have another one, we asked for our money back as it was obviously faulty but they would not refund it. The next night it looked as if it was going to break again so we went back and eventually we changed it for a different watch and low and behold when we got home the new watch broke it the same place, so be warned. In case you’re not aware everywhere will accept Euro and Lira.

We had a super holiday, we will definitely go back to this hotel but next time we won’t be buying anything unless from a recommended shop as we have learnt a lesson.

The Paloma Beach Hotel is the best-kept secret from the English; don’t spoil it!

We stayed 9 days at Paloma beach hotel in June 2007. Hotel is nice, clean, staff is very polite and always trying their best to help you. There are some great swimming pools, spacious and perfectly clean. Beach is superb, enough lounges. Beautiful gardens around, they really look after the surroundings. Food was very good. Entertainment team is also lovely, although the daytime activities are every day the same. But if you get to know the guys, they are so funny and it isn't boring at all.
Don't miss the view from the corridor on the 8th floor!!!!!
The overall experience is very positive.

Now the negatives. (I repeat: The overall experience is very positive! even this part is longer than describing the positives)

There is only a few downs in the hotel ifself. Bathroom was very small, the shower curtain went mouldy and we had to shower with hot water (really unpleasant after day on the sun). But if you wait for about 5 minutes and don't flush the toilet it will become just very warm not hot. :)
We are a couple (28 and 22) but this hotel was full of families and older people. They were mainly german, which wasn't problem for us but just to let you know...
Some of the waiters could be a little bit annoying when serving. They try to be funny at all times, specially the ones who can speak german/english. They joke with kids, which is ok, but they would even lift a baby from a pram and kiss it without asking, which I don't find ok. But majority of the staff is great and professional.
There is different story outside the hotel. Side is full of shops and restaurants. Do not spoil your holiday being silly when out and shopping. If you don't know how to haggle, don't buy anything expensive. It's not worth it. The shop owners will get you sooner or later. We have seen some people from the hotel buying watches. Everyone know it's fake but it isn't for a couple of pounds. And they broke down the same day of the purchase. The shop owners are sometimes pushy but if you are careful and say firmly NO (nein in german is better) you will be fine. The same stands for eating or drinking out. Check the prices, they were trying to sell us cocktails for 8 euros!!! Say no and leave, you will find better place. We ate in restaurant Gul (not sure about the name) in the middle of the town. The landlady was swedish. It was EXCELLENT dinner. Service very polite, no forcing into anything.
Another bad experience was when taken out by one of the hotel staff. We were group of 8 english speaking people and went to Shamata disco, which is about 3 minutes walk from the hotel across the main road. The hotel staff go out after hours quite often and they will take you with them if they see you somewhere drinking. Once it was good night but this time in Shamata (again not sure about the spelling) it was a disaster. Prices very stretched 1beer for 7 lyras (almost 3 pounds). When paying they said they didn't have any change. Then tried to give us some sort of mixture euros/lyras which was terribly not enough. When we asked to speak to the boss, miracle happened, there was enough change.
My advice for holiday in Turkey. Be relaxed, it's not absolutely perfect there, but it's great value for your money. Be careful when out of your hotel, everyone wants a bit of your money. It's your own fault if you let someone to spoil your stay there.
I will definitely go back.
