“Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

Me and my boyfriend are just back from Sun City Apartments. We are both 23 years old and just wanted a cheap getaway to relax and catch some sunshine.

I read so many of the reviews for this hotel before going and I was worried because people either said it was great or rubbish, I will tell you the truth, it is completely average. I am not the fussy type so anything clean and livable was okay for me. We arrived at the apartments late Thursday night and we were really happy with the apartment. It was clean, had a double bed and a garden view of the main bar (we were on the bottom floor). The pool is a good size, however, for the amount of guests, can get a little crowded. He found out very quickly that this hotel was mostly full of Germans. We didn't spend that much time at the hotel as I didn't really like it, the entertainment was very poor and repetitive. The cleaner came everyday and did a good job making the rooms the best they could be. Still, the room was average and did us fine. Often at night, We found ourselves woken up by stray dogs barking from outside/around the hotel, really off putting. The outside location of the hotel is in the middle of no-where really, a lot of spare land with nothing and then random other hotels/bars.

Side itself is a lovely place, however, for our age group, there was not a lot to do, we found ourselves eating our a lot as there is plenty of restaurants but not so many drinking places. The beach was lovely and you could get a sun lounger if you purchased a drink from one of the beach bars. We didn't think there was anything that interesting to see/do, we visited the shops and the old town but we were so put off with the hassling to come into shops and the lack of British people, A lot of the signs were in German as apposed to English and we went on a boat trip which was translated from Turkish into German, so we had no idea where we were going.

Overall, The hotel is very average, the room was nice but really small so you couldn't really relax there, just a place to sleep really. I'd advise anyone that hasn't booked but is thinking of booking this hotel, to have a look around for other hotels or even a different destination. I definitely wouldn't go back to this hotel but then again, I do not think I would visit Turkey again.

We booked this holiday Christmas 2012 to travel sept 2013.
Having read recent reviews shortly before leaving we were quite concerned however we need not have worried. We were delighted with the hotel, room, all staff especially shine aka sunshine he had a brilliant sense of humour making us laugh on a daily basis he was helpful and always professional indeed as all staff were. Saw no evidence of arrogance or aggression from staff as mentioned in previous review. Our apartment was cleaned to a good standard every day with a constant supply of clean towels. Pool area a little cramped due we feel to the 50/50 sun and shade so we often made use of the free bus to the royal beach. Buses often became full replacements were quickly called. Once on the beach drinks and sunbed hire were average for the resort. Alternatively there were other beaches approx. 10 to 15 min walk from the hotel.
Although we didn't often eat in the hotel on the occasions we did the food was as good and as reasonable as surrounding restaurants. Having to pay for food and drinks at the reception was not a problem we just paid on a daily basis.
We found side the resort to be picturesque, clean, with very little /no harassment from shop and bar vendors. The harbour area is particularly pretty and our favourite watering hole was a small very chilled out bar called the Apolonique even the cats were relaxed. Also spent some fun evenings in cheers bar. We would highly recommend the restaurant Chian literally around the corner from Sun City the food was always excellent décor and service of a very high standard and reasonable prices.
To summarise we would not hesitate to recommend sun city or side the resort and may even return ourselves at some future date. Please bare in mind this is not five star accommodation but we consider it a very good three star which is exactly what we paid for.

Room Tip: Would recommend a first floor or above for better privacy our room 301 although a nice two bedroomed...

We booked this holiday much earlier in the year, and after frequently checking trip advisor reviews, I was growing increasingly concerned. I needn't have worried.

We arrived at the hotel in the early hours and was greeted by the receptionist. He checked us in quickly and called the porter to assist us with our luggage. This was especially helpful as 2 of our party are toddlers. We were taken up to our rooms, adjacent to each other on the third floor. There is no lift at this hotel so the less mobile should probably make an advance request for lower floor accommodation.

Our party had two 2 bed apartments, both were clean, and reasonably well equipped. There was no bath, but a huge walk in shower, big enough for the entire family! The shower was quite powerful, although there was minor damage to our, which did not affect its use. There are information cards provided in each room which proved to be both useful and informative during our stay.

Although we booked as Self Catering, Half of our party decided to purchase Breakfast Passes from reception for 90tl per person (children under 6 are free). This was perhaps the most disappointing element of our stay. The breakfast was a bit weird. Each day there was fresh bread (white and wholemeal) tomatoes, cucumber, a selection of sliced meats and cheeses, some bowls filled with unidentifiable items, and boiled eggs. There was also another egg option provided each day, omelette, scrambled eggs, and eggy bread. I found there eggs to be faaaar too runny, but that is personal preference. There are no toast making facilities in the restaurant. A selection of teas and coffee is provided, also is juice, but they are overly sweet in Peach, Cherry or Lemon flavours. Beware, these juices cause stains that put Vanish to the test.

The hotel is set on well maintained grounds. The main pool is located by the bar and restaurant. It is a very spacious pool with ample sun loungers. There is also a children's pool with a snake slide, a baby pool and the aqua park pool which has tow massive slides that operate daily on a timed basis. We found the pools to be very clean. Often, early of a morning, I would see the man cleaning the pool, which is reassuring. There is also an indoor pool, which I didn't like. I found this to be very strong with chlorine and it really stung my eyes.

The hotel staff are exceptionally friendly, which I am informed is typical of Turkish hospitality. They are very good with children. A Minidisco is provided for the children every evening at 20.45. It is very good and parents are welcome to join their youngsters for a boogie.

The food from the hotel is really good and very reasonably priced. The drinks are perhaps a little over priced, but happy hour twice daily makes up for that! The hotel bar has an extensive cocktail list, all of which must be sampled!

There is a minimarket on site, just behind the pool area. 5 litre bottles of water are priced at 2,60tl (not even £1) and you won't save any money buying your water at the supermarkets in the local area.

There isn't much in the local area. We did venture out one evening for dinner at Beckhams which was very nice, but much more expensive than the hotel.

The hotel provides a daily shuttle bus to/from Royal beach. This beach is in the middle of nowhere and you are stuck paying their extortionate prices for food and beverages. There are also strict rules against bringing your own food or drink to the beach, but I fail to see how this would be enforced. The shuttle bus can become very crowded indeed.

As a family with two toddlers, we probably wouldn't return to this hotel in the next few years as we find that All Inclusive holidays are better suited to our requirements. However, if this hotel were to begin offering All Inclusive board option, then I would have no hesitation in booking our holiday at this hotel for next year

Overall, a wonderful holiday that truly exceeded our expectations was had by all.

Had a wonderful week in Side and at Sun city. As I said, the rooms are quite basic but you get what you pay for, the cleaners are brilliant, the rooms are spotless. The staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful and have a great sense of humour. The pools are lovely and clean and overall its a lovely hotel. As you see from some comments, the hotel is not super close to the beach but its not a long walk at all, and when you get there, its so worth it. Side itself is stunning, the amphitheatre and the ruins are spectacular. The Turkish people are so lovely and so friendly, I cant say a bad thing about them. I loved the holiday so much I was so sad to leave, but it will give me a chance to have somethibg to look forward to as I will he booking a holiday there again for in the very near future.

Def a hotel for families popular with scandinavians & central europeans.
Rooms very spartan even for Turkey...very much an inpersonal holiday factory. No pool side room, was at times hard to move around as so many people in small space and sunbeds everywhere, corridors paths etc.
Cleaning of rooms very random & not brilliant.
We where oringinaly in main complex but noise was terrible (akin to having a room next to a shopping centre or playground) asked to move and placed in additional complex other side of road :)
Would be great for familes with active kids.

Just returned from a brilliant fortnight here. We arrived at 4am in the morning and were greeted by a friendly member of staff who even managed to find someone to carry our cases to our room. We stayed on the ground floor, with a lovely view over the garden and pool. The room was clean and modern but a bit basic. This wasn't a problem for us. The staff were very enthusiastic and friendly and tried hard to make sure you were having a good time. They made an effort to get to know us, we were even invited to play football with the staff at the end of the night! The pools are brilliant, bearing in mind that it's not a huge hotel. They make an effort with the entertainment, but you can tell it's on a budget, but we enjoyed it most nights.

The food was excellent! We tried our best to go into Side for dinner but for the prices, quality and staff it was hard to resist. The Turkish food was brilliant and lots of other choices for people not quite so keen on trying the local cuisine. They even cook some of the food at your table for you!

There is no getting around the fact that this hotel is not on the sea front, but a 10 minute walk to the prom with a hill isn't the end of the world. However, for the lazy folk they do offer a free shuttle bus to the beach.

Room Tip: There are no lifts in the building, but block 2s ground floor was brilliant.

we had a wonderful time at sun city. we hired a two bedroom apartment, which was very spacious. The room was spotlessly clean, & cleaned everyday to a high standard. For a 3 star I was very impressed, the food was lovely and plenty of choice. It is a very family orientated resort, and the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The pools are lovely and kept very clean. Night time noise doesn't go on too late and management seem to be aware that families are trying to sleep, and keep noise to a minimum. The on site photographer is a must if you want professional family photos done, and his pricing is extremely reasonable. I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at sun city and would recommend to anyone, I would say it is an extremely well managed hotel, and the staff are very well trained in looking after you and making your holiday an enjoyable one, I would definitely return if I were to go back to Side.
