“Good service, great food and excellent value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

Myself and my wife stayed at the Arum last week and found it to be first class. Certainly as good as a four star Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton etc. Yes it was the middle of January and very quiet (just how we like it) but the choice and standard of food was very good and well supervised as was the standard of service in the restaurants. The rooms were clean and well serviced and we had a great sea view on the top floor with fruit on arrival.
The hotel caterers mainly for its German guests as does this resort generally ( about 80%) but this was fine for us and they were all very freindly. It was the time of the year for us oldies mainly and they were only a few young children there so can't comment on facilities for them.
We were on half board basis, which suited us, and it also included a visit to the only a la carte restuarant open this time of the year, which was excellent and very much enjoyed at no extra cost.
Drinks are not badly priced, with local beer at about £2 a glass at the bar and wine in restuarant ranging from the cheapest at £7 a bottle (red was good but white just drinkable) to an average £10/£12. Spirits with mixer were about £3.
Local bus (dolmus) can be caught from the top of the road, about 150 yards, in Side for 2TL each way or to Manavgat for 2.5TL. To walk to Side along the prom takes about 45/55 mins but is very pleasant and good exercise. The town has many antiquities to look at and many shops with fake designer goods as well.
Staff at the hotel were very good overall and we didn't have any major complaints at all and would certainly go back.

Room Tip: Definately sea view and as high as possible.

We went in late October to avoid excessive heat. The outside temperatures were perfect for us, but our room was too hot, especially at night. The air-conditioning did not work. We complained 3 times, and each time they said they would fix it, but nothing was done. The Thompson Rep said that they had turned the air conditioning off in the entire hotel and that other guests had also complained.

Otherwise the hotel was fine, very clean, spacious, our room had a lovely balcony with a seaview. The food was good although I found it a little bland. Most of the guests were German, not just in the hotel, but in the whole resort. Even when we drove to Analya, an hour away, all the tourists we came across were German. Very pleasant people but it seemed like we flew to Turkey and landed in Berlin! Unsurprisingly the waiters had better German than English.

OK if you just want a quiet, comfortable holiday by the pool, but you need aqua shoes for the sea as the bottom is stony.

If you like to explore you may be disappointed.
The surrounding area comprises hotel next to hotel, each competing to look more grotesque. The area inland looks desolate, Most of the shops are for tourists, the shopkeepers pressurise for a sale, and I found it uncomfortable to browse.

Room Tip: If you have a late departure try to pre book a late departure room. Otherwise you have to check out...

We had a wonderful week at this hotel in Side. The hotel was spotless and the standard of housekeeping excellent. The food was lovely, masses of choice and all to a very high standard. Their carvings using large melons were stunning as were their 'floral' decorations made from vegetables - what talent!!
We didn't use the pools as we prefered the beach and we always got sunbeds down there. The staff at the beach bar were lovely and the pancakes which one of the hotel kitchen staff cooked fresh every day at the beach bar were delightful. We enjoyed the sea and snorkelling tho it was a bit stony to get in to the water.
Really wonderful place and will definitely plan to return.

Room Tip: High floor and sea view

Went as part of a group of 8 people, all family, and had a lovely time. Rooms were clean and next to each other which was really helpful as we were travelling with 2 young children so could keep close eye on them from any of the apartments. The pool and beach areas were immaculate, large and of a high standard, you do however have to get down there at the crack of dawn as the hotel caters mainly for German tourists (about 90% we were told) and they very much live up to national stereotype of sun-bed domination but there are plenty of beds on green areas if poolside is not vital to your stay.

We were on half board which included breakfast and dinner, there were several sites to eat lunch at all very reasonable and serving nice light lunches and good quality freshly made produce. The restaurant staff were all very friendly and especially with the children which is always good and the food of a very high quality with a large and different choice each night. This included various theme nights and a grill area outside as well as several hot food stations, 2-4 salad bars, 2 desert areas, loads of bread, fruit etc, all in all a fine spread. The only negative comment i have regarding food is that the breakfast does not really suit an English palette, the ham and cheese I found to processed and bland and the cooked elements again cater for the Germanic clientèle so don't expect any sausages/bacon/black pudding but weiners and sautéed potatoes with herbs etc. You get 1 meal in a 'a la carte restaurant free as part of the stay, though you can attend more than 1 as the dishes are priced individually, and our meal in the Turkish restaurant was very good. They do seem to make it rather hard to book a table however, the guest relations take the bookings and are only open from 9:30-2pm and you have to book 2 days in advance which is a bit frustrating if, like us, it takes a couple of days to settle in and you suddenly find yourself frantically trying to book a table before you have to leave! :)

We didn't use the spa but it also boasts an indoor pool which was good on the one day of poor weather, their first in 7 months of course, for the kids. Their on-site entertainments team provide a childs activity centre which is open 10-5 and they also arrange football, water polo, volleyball, archery, darts and aqua aerobics/fit once a day. In the evening their is a different show each night comprising of dancing which are good fun and, if your brave, some audience participation.

The reception staff were the only disappointing aspect of our stay, they were neither particularly helpful/well informed and in comparison to how polite and pleasant the rest of the staff were somewhat surly. The hotel is a 10 minute ride away from Side itself, about 45 min walk along beach front I was informed by my mother, and somewhat isolated from anything beyond the usual tourist shops selling tat. However the hotel is so well provisioned so that if you have gone for a relaxing time in the late summer sun then there is no real urge to leave.

It is the first time i have gone to hotel that offers all inclusive style packages and was pleasantly surprise at how good the food & drink, the rooms and the whole atmosphere were, we would definitely return to the Arum Hotel again!

A stunning hotel with fantastic facilities offering excellent value for money. We had a relaxing two week break in the Arum and upgraded our stay from B&B to half board for a very reasonable cost

The quality of food on offer each day was unbelievable. Freshly prepared, delightfully presented & beautifully seasoned with a wide variety of choice each day. Masterchef in action for sure

Our bedroom was beautiful, spacious, sea view spotlessly clean and very well appointed down to toiletries, bathrobes, uppers, tea& coffee facilities mini bar & safety deposit box We even had a surplus of clothes hangers :). Daily room service to the highest standard

The staff were very helpful & polite despite the fact that English was probably fourth or fifth as a language of choice - Turkish & German taking top spots but that Didn't stop us enjoying our stay

The hotel has its own doctor & nurse and having needed to access the service I was very very impressed with the efficiency & professionalism encountered

The pool area is brilliant with three large pools around a pool bar. Pools were so clean water samples tested frequently during our stay. Lots of very comfortable loungers and hotel supplies huge towels so don't pack your own! Wandering through the pool & garden areas you come to the beach. Managed by the hotel clean & spacious with a beach bar & cafe bar nearby. A 40 minute walk along the new prom takes you into Old Side. Worth a trip esp to the Temple of Apollo and into the wonderful archeological site that is under excavation. All totally free of charge unless you want to visit the museums We loved rambling about the ruins of this

Surprisingly the only down side to this wonderful hotel is its main entrance! Having been to a range of other 5 star hotels en route from the airport I had great expectations for this hotel. Imagine my disappointment when we arrived at the Arum - a building site to the side due to the Crystal hotel development and in front of the hotel an excavated plot that had just been abandoned!! The front of the hotel was full of foliage and gave the appearance of being a small pokey establishment. NOT true!! Once through the main doors the hotel opens up into its well deserved 5 star resort

Barat Management- if you have any influence over planning & building regulations in Side do something soon

Fantastic hotel. Excellent value

Perfect holiday very good food pool service and lots of sun beds. It is mainly German clients so standards are expected and are very high mainly over forty fives not a young hotel as very quiet at night . Sea not very good as very stony but beach is great. The pool area is first class as are the rooms the maid was very at tentative as we're all the staff. Can recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good quality break without loud and unruly guest spoiling the nice ambience .just back last week after two weeks. Cheshire

We arrived at the Hotel about 10.00pm and were met by a friendly receptionist who checked us in and told us that they had kept the restaurant open for us so that we could have a meal which was an unexpected surprise!, so after the porter took us to our room which had been upgraded to a two bedroom appartment we had dinner and wine and then went to the pool bar and listened to live music.
Positives. Fantastic Hotel, very clean and excellent facilities
Only a few minute walk to the lovely beach
Pool is really lovely and wasn't overrun with children
Good security,we felt really safe
Staff are really friendly considering they don't really speak much English
Food is of a very high standard, and plenty of it.
A very relaxing holiday

The guests were mainly German when we went (sept) and we felt that sometimes we were not treated in the same way as they were,as they were all inclusive we sometimes felt " second best",all of the waiters speak German and seemed surprised when they found that we were British!

Entertainment at night is poor
Breakfast is geared up for the German guests, and the hot food was cold, ie Scrambled eggs, beans etc

Overall though we really enjoyed our holiday and would reccomend the Arum to anybody.
