“Nice hotel but not ideal if you're English”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

We have just returned from our holiday. It's a nice modern hotel but the entertainment and activities all in German making it difficult to join in. Although the staff are friendly, most of the waiting staff speak German and make little attempt to chat with English guests. The restaurant is open for dinner from 6.30 - 9pm : it's heaving until 8ish but if you go down any later the waiters are reluctant to re-lay the tables and the food gets cleared away from 8.45pm. Meals are not enjoyable - you are constantly getting up and queuing for food, only to return to your table to find that your drinks have been cleared away.

We ate at the a la carte restaurants. The only choice is for the main course - otherwise it is really a set menu. We were very disappointed with the Asian restaurant - the Sushi starter seemed to be just rice (no fish) and the main course (on both occasions that we ate there) arrived luke warm. The Mexican is the better choice - particularly the fajitas.

There were a couple of gala nights during our stay where the food is served out by the swimming pool. The food choice / presentation was excellent but we did see semi cooked chicken being served where the chefs couldn't cook it in time to meet demand.

Usual thing with the reserving of sun loungers - except even worse here was that guests were reserving loungers at the pool, then going down to the beach for the morning before arriving back at the pool at lunchtime!!

We enjoyed the holiday and the hotel can't be faulted for facilities and private beach but if you want relaxing meal times and entertainment in the evening this hotel may not be for you.

Room Tip: Main building is hot and noisy, rooms in Block 4 & 5 are better.

Everything in this hotel is perfect. Only downfall it's Syked up for Germans. Not a lot if English entertainment but still had a brilliant time. Lovely hotel n were always made very special! Nit a lot in side urself but was still nice to see the old museum and the history of it itself. Definetly come back.

Stayed 12-19 May 2012.Ages range 2-42. The Hotel is Superb, much better than we expected! The Staff were excellent, honestly they couldn't do more for you! The standard of food was really good,(i am a really fussy eater and i couldn't fault it).Be sure to try the A La Carte at least once,We tried the Asian theme(Sushi/Chinese).I wasn't going to try this because i am so fussy about food..but i got added to the reservation late in the day..Thanks to the Staff for making this possible!! One of the Best decisions i made!Tried something New which wasn't the cleverest thing(seaweed..urgh)!! The Courses just keep coming!!
The Pool area is Very well maintained and the Kids loved their Pool,All the Kids got on despite the Language barrier and that does help them and You be able to Relax somewhat! Although there aren't many British people, maybe that's a good thing,You always made friends and weren't made to feel isolated. The Animation team do a fantastic job keeping the Youngsters entertained and amused.Remember to join in with the Adult activities Aqua-Aerobics,Yoga and BELLY DANCING,(even i had a go of the latter..and i'm a Bloke)!! It was a real Laugh!!
The Pool Bar is Excellent,One side is where Drinks are served and the other side serves Food,(Ideal if you fancy snacks)!Chips,Chicken,Burgers and Pizza etc!! Be sure to tip the waiters as they will look after you even better!!
Back inside the Hotel,It's a wonderful place to Relax.Have a Beer or whatever you fancy! Air Conditioned and Comfy Sofas..What more could you want!! The Restaraunt is Large and also has a Terrace if you fancy sitting outside! Very good variety of Food and you can fill your plate as many times as you want or so it seemed!! There is a Tip Box by the Door so please put some Cash in it,If you poke your head through the door before before Meal times and see how hard they work then you'll understand!!
The Beach is a Ten minute stroll through the Gardens or you can get the Shuttle!! The Beach has plenty of Loungers is Clean and a really good place to Chill out and perfect your Tan.The water is shallow for a good distance so it's safe for Paddling! There is a Bar/Restaraunt so you can get a Beer or Soft drink and a snack if you wish.
Evenings the Entertainment was Brilliant.Okay they do have to Speak mainly German but they do Translate in English aswell.Great Shows and i promise you that you will be Entertained!! After the Shows finish retire to the Pool Bar for a Nightcap or Two!! A great way to end your Day/Night.
The rooms are to a good standard.Cleaned Daily and Towels changed. The Bathroom was large and the Shower was really good with variable Power(be careful)!! You have TV's in Bedrooms with a few English channels otherwise just change the Language settings.
All i can say to Sum Up is,I loved Everything about the Hotel and Hopefully i will be going back next Year. If you are considering Side Star Resort Hotel...Book it..You Won't Regret It.

We are writing this review as we could not find many when we booked this holiday and it worried us slightly, but we have to say at once WE HAD A PLEASANT STAY there.

Location:
The Hotel is situated about 12 kilometers from Side and easily accessible with buses every half an hour. (Shuttles are started and arrived in front of the hotel /cost 2 EUR or 3.5 TL/person to get there). Antalya airport is reachable around 1 hour.

Hotel/rooms:
The hotel was renovated about 5-6 months ago so is in high level of standard. We stayed one of the annex buildings. Actually we enjoyed staying there; we think it was calmer than the main building. The room was daily cleaned, although the cleaning lady recently forget to refill the shampoo, shower gel, teabags in the room and once the towels also, we had no considerable cause of complaint, the staff immediately took care of our requests.

Pool/Beach
There is a large pool with a separate small pool with slides for children. As the pools (the inside pool also) weren’t heated, only a few people mostly children had the brave to try it. So this time of the year (late October) it was a great disadvantage. There are plenty of sun beds around the pool and also at the beach. The beach is great with fine sand, slow deepening coast and water-sport facilities. There is also a bar, where grilled meats and snacks in the afternoon cakes, donuts, salads were served.

Food
The hotel has 3 al’ cart restaurants (Mexican, Asian, Turkish) and one restaurant is rotating on the different nights. If you would like to try them, you should make a reservation in advance, but you could only do this between 11am and 13h at the same day. To tell the truth we always forget or miss the fixed schedule for booking during our stay, so we didn’t try them.
The food in the main restaurant mostly was great nothing spectacular, however the food served in the thematic nights (Turkish and Italian) was excellent! There is a wide range of food (salads, fruits, sweets, soup, pasta, main dishes) so we think everybody can find something to eat.

Services
The staff was friendly and they speak rather German than English. At the check in you got your beach towel free of charge, but for change you should pay.
We also got a coupon for 15 min. massage, which was quite good.
Fitness center, spa area very good.

Summary: We would go back!

We are staying in the side star resort at the moment. We have been here for 2 very comfortable nights so far. The hotel is very clean and the staff are extremely helpful. The hotel was renovated about 6 months ago so is in very good state of repair.

Resturant & Food
The main Resturant is large and bright, with a terrace area overlooking the pool. There is a wide range of dishes to choose from. They cater for every palate however picky. There is a large salad bar and even diet bar area for those watching their wieght. We have had great service so far.

Rooms:
The rooms are decorated and cleaned to a very high standard. We have had no complaints to make.

Pool:
There is a large pool with a seperate smaller pool with a selection of slides for the children. This time of year the pool is chilly to say the least. There are plenty of sun beds. Even though it's November we have had 2 days of 73 degrees.

Beach:
Although the hotel was renovated it doesn't seem that the beach and beach bar got the same treatment. Don't get me wrong, it is perfectly nice down there. But it could do with a lick of paint.

Local area:
Well ! When you get here don't be put off by the area infront of the hotel. There are a few run down shops and houses, but the area is being renovated and new apartments being built. About 500 metres down the road is the village. We haven't been there yet but it looks OK.

Side:
Side is an old Roman port with history and ruins galore. It takes 25 mins to get there from the hotel on the Dolmus. The cost is 7TL.(if you give 10TL they give you €3 change ? Work that out) side is a nice little harbour town, but that's about it.

I hope this helps !

Honest Review...

1 Week, AI 40-45 and a 17 year old

Currency
This area is “Euroland” everything in the local “fake” shops and in the hotel is automatically priced and given to you in Euros (Another tip my wonderful travel agent did not know!) they will convert to Turkish Lire, at the time of this review I got 2.8 lire to the £, but in Turkey is was more like 2.5, and 1 Euro was 2.5 lire.....you do the maths.

TRAVEL AGENT
Travelled with First Choice, my advice don’t bother you can do this with OTB or other ATOL/ABTA agencies who may give you service, we normally use OTB, but thought let’s see what a Travel agent gives you more...the answer nothing...so don’t bother...WHY, They are cutting back on reps, so use a 24/7 helpline that charges you stupid amounts per SMS text, as the number is in the UK. WHY, The do not do a welcome meeting, nor do they attend this hotel EVER. WHY, Don’t even bother to escort you into the hotel’s on drop off, nor chaperone you on departure, WHY, they cost more, I could of (yes I know why did I) got this cheaper via OTB! WHY, Rude cabin staff on return journey, yes they had probably already done a 6 hour shift, but if they don’t like the job...GET OUT! Marks out of 10......2/10

Antalya Airport
Arrived , easy transition from baggage to buses, no hassle and easy to find your Rep, but would be easy to find transport independent travel desk

Departed, You will need to get your bags scanned on entering the airport, and yes the no liquids applies, big queue’s if your German....not for UK passengers..Duty Free has everything marked up in EURO’s although they do have scanners everywhere to convert to every imaginable currency.
Slightly overprice food etc but it’s an Airport....and they have a captive audience....

Transfer
45-50mins from the airport to the hotel

Hotel
Excellent, has recently been totally re-furbished, and it shows everything is immaculate, lobby very good, reception 24/7 speak very good English, excellent German! (Tip book the Al a Carte for the Mexican, and the Asian (Its Chinese really) all part of the AI but you need to book between 11am and 1pm, did this twice and very good service...
Free wifi if you stay in the lounge area only, others available but they are not free, so you will find every evening all the PC and iphone user’s in the inside bar getting their fix’s

Rooms
We stayed in room 1101, in the main block, bathroom plenty of room enough to get 4 people in the shower, hair dryer, shaver point, large mirror LCD TV, mini fridge, water bottle given every day, clean towels every day, cleaned every day. Bed a bit hard, probably due to be all new!

Food
Plenty of food, there was always something to eat, yes for all the moaners out there THERE IS NO BACON OR BAKED BEANS!, when in Rome and all that, every possible salad you could every want even for breakfast , specials, pancakes a must!

Pool
Very good, never had to rise early to get a sun-bed there are 100’s, free towels via use of your towel cards, towel man can be a bit elusive though!
Slide open from 10am till 12, then again from 2pm till 4pm
Pool was a bit cold in October, but will be very busy I would imagine in July Aug 2012, and we didn’t need to go down to the pool till after 9am every day and there were always sun-beds...suspect will again be different in summer 2012

Poolside
Crepes made fresh WYW all FOC, bar operates plastic for around the pool and glass when seating in the bar area, you can get Gin, Vodka, Brandy, Whisky, Wine, Liqueurs and Fizz, Tea & coffee all part of the AI, from the two pool bars and lounge bar and the beach bar
“good morning, good morning how are you today....followed by euro pop is from 10am till 12, and again from 2 -4pm, every possible game is on offer, darts, yoga, volleyball, water polo, air rifle, etc etc...

Entertainment
The entertainment team are very good, they speak excellent German, very little English, but try to keep everyone happy, recommend the Turkish night very good, the rest was not even as good a Haven! Might of been time of year, so do pack cards or an ipad

Local Shops
You hotel is actually in Gundogdu, pronounced Gun Dog Doo, and yes there is within a 10 minute stroll an abundance of “Fake” shops selling their ware, so do take a spare suitcase lots of bargain to be had, Ladies excellent handbags, my wife got a Jimmy Choo handbag originally he wanted 200 Lire we got it for 50! About £18

Dolmush
Recommend you use these much easier and cheaper than tours, we spent £4 for three of us each way both to the marker at Mankavat, and to the ruins and shops in Side, both around a 30min ride....easy to use just walk outside the hotel, get on eh dolmush that state the destination, get in pass your money to the front (most have price list up) but it’s around 3 lire per person! To return cross the road where you get off and then put your hand out when you see the dolmush saying GunDogDoooooo

Sightseeing
Go to Side for the day on a dolmush, you get to see the Amphitheatre, and the Apollo temple, nice lunch by the waterside, and then a bit of shopping...something for everyone.

Summary
Very German, all Euros so bring very little Turkish, enough for the Dolmush only
Learn German!
Don’t discover Side
Go to the market twice a week in Mankavat

We arrived back from our stay at Club Side Star and I have to say it is one of the best holidays we have been on. The standards were very high and location ideal for us. Our bedroom had everything we needed and beautifully decorated. The food was great and so much choice!! Having the beach was an added extra and it was only a short walk to the nearest shops. First Choice looked after us very well.

The staff in the hotel were very helpful and understood English well, they work extremely hard and were always cheerful.

We would definitely return to the hotel as we were so impressed. I work in a Hotel and have a hospitality background therefore could be seen as hard to please but this hotel was fantastic. Please don’t be put off by lack of reviews, it’s a wonderful place to visit
