“Great Holiday, just a few annoying niggles but it is new after all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2011

This was my fourth time in Turkey, I have been to Marmaris twice - both self catering and Antalya once which was a 5 star All Inclusive, so I have something to compare. This time I went with my partner as a couple.

The Hotel decor and grounds were absolutely beautiful! The room was lovely, we were situated in the main building on the 4th floor, the room had a mini bar stocked daily all none alcoholic and a lovely flat screen tv. The bathroom was lovely too, plenty of room and a nice shower with plenty of hot water every night although you did end up having cold showers as the weather was fantasitcally hot! But the aircon soon fixed that.

Hotel Cleaniless, well I couldn't fault it. The maid came to our room and cleaned every day they changed your bed as much as you wanted you just left a card on top of your bed. No sandy floors or bed linen transferred from the beach which was lovely and fresh towels were provided every day.

Food - The food was ok, after 2 weeks we got a little bored, but we did always find something to eat. Compared to other Turkish 5 star hotels I have been to, I can say that I have had a lot better. For me the food was pleasant enough.

A la Carte - These restaurants provided the ideal opportunity to get away from the canteen buffet style service, which was much more pleasant. The Turkish restaurant was by far the best in our opinion.

Drink - If you like your beer the Turkish local beer Effes is the way to go this is lovely the wine isn't bad too. As for the cocktails they were awful and were made up of a cordial type mixture rather than juice so they just tasted watery with an alcahol back lash, not pleasant. As far as spirits go, the local spirits are fine, however, gave up asking for a spirit an a mixer as the bar staff seem to think a 3/4 glass full of spirit and a dash of coke works, not good. Ended up making them myself asked for a single spirit and say 4 cokes that worked for us. The size of the glasses were rather annoying, it's all inclusive for god sake and they were struggling with the amount of people at the bar sometimes if they gave out proper sized drinks they would last longer.

Staff -
Reception - Our welcome was poor, we arrived at about midnight. The staff pretty much ignored us, then decided to say hello, then answered a call, then asked us if we had our keys which no we didn't, then chatted with their friend and finally advised me to fill something in and took a copy of my passport. Not really what you want at midnight when you are hungry and tired. I can't say we were offered any food or drink so we went to look for food but bolognese at midnight didn't really cut it. We made our way to our rooms with the help of the bellboy who was much nicer.

The Bar Staff - They haven't got a clue! Particularly at the pool bar of a night. There doesn't appear to be any concept of what a queue is, both by the guests and the staff which can be really frustrating and to add to that when you have some silly bar man thinking he's tom cruise juggling bottles and drinks (poorly e.g. spilt a drink over a customer) when people are getting annoyed waiting for their drinks was not really appropriate. Also branded spirits were available but at a price these were the rules clearly set out in the menu, however, it appears there is one rule for one and one for another, some guests were being given perfferential treatment if they asked for branded drinks they got them for free.

The Restaurant staff - Hit and miss, some were really pleasant and made a real effort others either didn't bother you or looked at you like you were stupid. Didn't find them very attentive in regards to serving drinks, you got offered one dirnk if you were lucky and that was it.
The A La Carte restaurant staff were much more attentive.

Pool/Beach - The pool was lovely, a little noisy as this is where all the action is. The beach was fantastic and that's coming from someone who isn't a fan of sea and sand :)

Location: This hotel is a bit out in the sticks, it takes 3 hours to walk into Side or 30 mins on the local dolomus up the road, really cheap reccomend this. Plus Side is beautiful, no need to take the trip through thomson as like I said get the bus and explore for yourself. Lots of Roman Ruins, which were amazing, then the usual shops as you get further into the town along with the restaurants. There are a few shops just up the road and to the left of the hotel if you feel like a wander out.

Went to a restaurant in side on the last night called Pasakoy, it was fantastic just on the main street of the town of side a little dorrway on the left opens up into a large outdoor secret graden lit up with lights, statues and waterfalls it was beautiful. Menu was extensive so we tried a local turkish speciality where they cook a stew like dish indie a clay pot set it alight, bring it to your table and crack it open with a hammer, this was pretty spectacular and I would definetly reccomend this restaurant, plus the cocktails were delicious!

Entertainment: This was ok, some good proffessional acts, with the exception of the animation team which to be fair are no different to most places pretty poor and cheesy.

Some of the spa facilities are included within your package which is nice. However, do be prepared to get nagged to have a massage sometimes around the pool or on the beach.
We did have a turkish bath and a massage and a face mask (package 2) Would definietly reccomend I always have turkish bath as it helps stop your tan from peeling. The massage was... lets say vigourous if you bruise easily perhaps this isn't for you. I felt great afterwards though.

Overall although my above review is easy to look upon as negative, the holiday was lovely. We did our own thing we weren't bothered by anyone. We didn't let things get to us, in particular the rude russian guests, at the end of the day we were on holiday and I hadn't got a care in the world. Yes the hotel had it's small flaws and they were small overall and yes it isn't quite finished yet, but I think I would visit again to be fair I wouldn't tell anyone not to go unless perhaps you are someone who is easily irritated or impatient. We really enjoyed it and it was also nice as a couple to have areas where we could avoid families if we wished too which was a nicety. There was a slight language barrier with some staff but try it's not difficult to get what you want.

Please note it is quite common in this region to have an upset tummy, due to the water, even if you are not drinking the local water it can be found in the salads, ice cubes and even food. If you do have an upset tummy for more than a couple of days it will be a common bacterial infection which is easily remedied by some tablets from the local chemist just up the road to the left of the hotel in the shopping complex. The chemist staff are extremely helpful.

Last but not least, don't ask for lemonade! Ask for sprite. First night didn't want to be rude and assume the waiter knew what a shandy was so explained using lemonade, turned out he knew what a shandy was, but you must say sprite. Also don't assume every waiter has the same knowledge asked for a shandy on another occassion, tried to explain and got a beer with a slice of lemon in, interesting but fun trying all the same.

Room Tip: We had a standard double room, which was lovely. The only downside was that the double was two singl...

I travelled at the end of june for 2 weeks with my husband and my family of 2 children (age 13 & 9). There were a few things not opened however the hotel was spotless, no problems in relation to food however we felt that the language barrier was the main issue.
Staff were very nice, the entertainment was probably the worst I have saw and most of the shows in the evening were not in English which is ok but got a little bit annoying. The manager was visible everyday and walked around from 8am in the morning until 11pm at night, his assistant was also available if you had any concerns or issues. The manager was very helpful and pleasant and was aware of the changes which were required.
The rooms were lovely, clean and spacious.
The white wine wasnt too nice but the red was lovely, the cava was also drinkable.
The food, well it was lovely your typical holiday food, however it was nice and to be honest prob the best.
The a la carte's were nice the nicest one was prob the mexican, the italian was not too great and the turkish was so so,
I am happy to answer any questions, overall I would return back and would def recommed it to friends and family.

This has been our 5th consecutive visit to Turkey always staying at a 5 star rated hotel. The Crystal Palace hotel in Side compares very well to others we have stayed in and we had a very enjoyable stay.

Adding to the comments of the previous two positive reviews, which we agree with, the plus side of the hotel when we stayed there during the last week in July and 1st week in August was that many of the bars and restaurants were empty and this provided an unique private feel to many aspects of our holiday. As we left we were informed that the hotel was full during the next week so his may change as the hotel becomes busy but on many nights the terrace bar was empty so service was excellent and staff eager to serve drinks as they had little to do!

The hotel is new all the finishings are immaculate so this is probably the best time to visit as wear and tear will naturally occur. The mix of people and races for us gave the holiday a more cosmopolitan feel, which we appreciated and enjoyed.

On the less posiive side the pool area does get very busy though the rule that no beds can be kept before 8 is quite fair. We saw a number of beds available at 8:45 to 9am which is not bad. The wake up call at 10am was not something we appreciated but were quite happy to laugh off and was only a minor irritation.

The food was very good and compared very well with similar Turkish 5 star beach resort hotels, entertainment especially the Chinese Circus Act was very good and of a better standard than in other resort hotels we have visited.

To conclude this is a beach holiday resort with many families enjoying themselves, there is luxury in areas such as the SPA and main lobby but if you expect an exclusive waiter service during every meal you will be disappointed (A la cart restaurants which were easy to book will provide you with this at least 3 times a week).

In house 10 pin bowling was expensive at 7 euros per person per game best part of £28 for a family of four as was the Henna Tatoo starting at 25 euros and up.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay only slightly spoilt by reading negative reviews before we left the UK.

On arriving to the hotel i questioned my husband asking if we had been dropped off at the right hotel??. It was beautiful. Arrived in the middle of the night was asked if we where hungry or wanted a drink. We where taken to our sea view superior room. The following morning we got our bearings and found getting a sun lounger was not impossible. The food was fantastic. The restaurants where amazing. just the Chinese a little disappointing, the entertainment for the kids was good, they started the day at 10am with a cockerel wakeup call followed by a song (good morning good morning) there was some good evening entertainment, the staff where very helpful, we did not experience any rudeness from other guest, the beach good with under shelter relaxing if you didn’t want a sun lounger in the sun. There where water sports where there for a small charge, there where shops to buy thing from on the ground floor, hairdressers. etc, quite a lot of stairs to climb if you where on the reception floor or alternatively wanting to go up them to higher floors, but plenty of lifts around the hotel. You do not need hairdryer. Towels, which are provided clean daily and you, are given towels for the beach/pool daily. soap for the showers, your fridge was filled daily with non alcoholic drinks, very clean, overall a grand hotel. Would go back again!!!!!!!! Enjoy your stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Select sea view/pool, upper floor with balcony. If not happy speak out, they are very accommodating.

Just back from a fortnights holiday at the crystal palace hotel. We were a family party of 9 with the ages ranging from 3 years - 65 years. Everyone in our party thought the hotel and facilities were excellent. It is obviously not a 5 star to british standard (however where is!)

The hotel rooms are of a very high standard and beautifully furnished. Each family room boasts 2 plasma tv's and 2 fridges - which the children loved. The kingsize bed and two twin beds were perfect for our family of 4 and compared to most 5 star hotels the rooms were actually spacious with lots of storage space. The bathroom was very plush with a lovely large walk in shower. Like the bedroom, even this was tastefully decorated.

We are early risers so never had any problem getting loungers. Although we sat by the beach we could have easily got loungers by the pool. The hotel does not allow guests to reserve loungers by the pool before 8 and removed towels left any time before this. This is the first hotel in which I have seen this happen and it seems like a fair way of doing things.

The pool was gorgeous! It is lovely and spacious with a separate area for the flumes. It can be noisy at times with aqua aerobics etc, however the pool is large enough to avoid this if necessary.

The beach area is large, with plenty sun beds available all day. Although the sand is not the nicest in the world, the beach area is cleaned daily and the beach bar's selection of food is great.

The main buffet restaurant has a wide selection of food (one of the best I've seen) and although busy, we didn't have any problems with Russians queue jumping.

There are 5 speciality restaurants - four of which we attended. The food served in these restaurants was delicious, although the servings were rather large. It is worth noting that you do have to book these restaurants in the main lobby a few days beforehand, therefore if you want to visit one in your first week you really need to book on your first day.
My husband visited the 'reservation kiosk' at 9am most mornings and
had no problem with queues or booking restaurants (we even managed to visit the Italian twice.)

To conclude - I would not think twice about re-visiting this hotel. It is clean, luxurious and the facilities are excellent. The food and drink is of a very high standard and I really could not find fault with anything.
Do not let negative reviews put you off!

This hotel does not deserve the criticism received - it is a newly opened hotel and there are obviously teething problems which the management and staff are bending over backwards to resolve. The staff do not all speak English but try their best to be helpful. The hotel is beautiful and it is the people that have been guests that are the problem. The management are constantly monitoring the staff to ensure good service is given but with the amount of people they are catering for it is impossible to please everyone all of the time. It is a family orientated hotel and the entertainment team are wonderful and work hard all day and evening to keep the children entertained and to make everyone happy. The price is reasonable for everything that is provided for the guests and there lies the problem. Some of the guests are not what would be expected in a 5 star hotel and make it very difficult for the staff to be courteous to them. Why do English people always expect everyone to speak their language yet never make any attempt to learn other languages themselves. Why expect an English breakfast when you are in Turkey. If you want Bacon and eggs and a pub like atmosphere then this is not the hotel for you. Every food imaginable is laid out buffet style and guests are free to help themselves to as much as they want. If individual waiter service were to be provided for everyone at every meal it would be far more expensive than it is. Food and drink is available at all times at no extra cost and I did not see anyone other than English drinking excessively. Yes it has some way to go before everything is as it should be for a 5 star hotel but in reality the price is far below what would have to be paid if that were the case. You have sun, sea, a beautiful swimming pool, water slides for children and a separate children's pool, food in abundance and the most beautiful décor within the hotel. Games room, bowling, spa, unlimited amount of drinks, nightly entertainment which is great for children and a late disco for the young at heart. The hotel has provided everything to make a great holiday even a cinema but unfortunately it is not the hotel or the staff that create the problems that have arisen but the people creating the problem because they do not know how to behave in public. The hotel is trying to attract more English people with new promotional ideas but unfortunately they should be very careful what they wish for. If you have booked for this hotel you will not be disappointed unless you go with the wrong attitude i.e. by looking for problems that do not exist and whatever problems there are would be far easier resolved if broached in a polite manner rather than with aggression. Given time and patience all the problems will have been resolved and this hotel will be wonderful and probably far beyond the price that it is at the moment so make the most of it while you can. My thanks to all the staff and entertainment team who made us feel so welcome in their country.

We went for two weeks and on arriving we were happy with our choice, however once inside the family room we were a little let down with the space and the bathroom we all had to share was just ok. Overall we managed for the time there with the room.
Staff were mostly helpful and we would recommend the Irish Bar as a member of male staff made a very good atmosphere for English travellers. So much so that the Russians would actually leave! something I've never seen them do as they tend to rule the hotels they stay in.
Trying to book an al la carte restaurant was near impossible unless you stood by the computer with other holiday makers and waited for about an hour. If you do this make sure you take your husband or another person with you because whilst we were there some people were coming close to blows by pushing in the line.
We started to go to the beach in the second week because it became very loud by the pool and the entertainment staff although generally good seemed to take over the pool area during the day. So for a more peaceful day we would recommend the beach - always loads of beds.
When claiming a sunbed by the pool be careful as some people will move your belongings off it and just take the bed if your not about first thing in the morning.
Apart from these few goings on we were provided with good food and good service and it is not the fault of the hotel for the way some guests behave. Generally a good hotel for a value for money family holiday but we prefer Lara Beach.
