Kalkan is a pretty resort built on quite steep slopes, overlooking a beautiful bay. There are plenty of nice shops and restaurants. It's a bit more expensive than other parts of Turkey, but good value compared to England. We never had a bad meal in the week we were there, but the best value is definitely in the restaurants further away from the harbour. The streets are all on steep slopes, so it's unlikely to be suitable for people with mobility problems.
We went on two trips with Light Tours who were friendly, efficient and really good value for money. The office is in a small side street, but you really should make the effort to find it - prices are lower than the tour companies or the other firms with more prominent offices. We went on the canoeing trip (which is good fun and ok for novices) and to the Saklikent Gorge, followed by Patara Beach (a lovely day out but not suitable for people who don't like getting wet) - the guys who took us really couldn't have been more friendly or helpful.
If you want to go on a boat trip, just book direct with one of the owners by the harbour - it's much cheaper. We went on Yildiz 2, a small family owned boat which was only £16 each for the whole day, including lots of delicious food cooked by the captain's wife - I really would recommend this.
If you're going to Kalkan, take plenty of sterling as well as Lira, as I found I could get better deals for almost everything if I paid in pounds.
The only downside to Kalkan is that the beach is not that great - you're better off using the hotel pools or going to Patara or other nearby beaches.
Overall, we found most of the locals to be lovely people and it's a super location for a week's holiday.
