I stayed with my 8 years old daughter at Fidanka last week. I found the hotel from the Small Hotels Book of Turkey. The hotel is established by a grandmother (ex-dentist but an artist now) and her daughter and son in law (who used to be a banker). As a world traveller, it is the best hotel that I have seen in Turkey in terms of original decoration, mix of old and tradition, friendly service and unbelievable tasty lunch and dinner. Terrace of our room (Nar Room, a villa suit) was out of this world! Sunset is the best in Kalkan!
The prices are perfect in terms of the quality. 15 turkish lira per large portion of meal (6 pounds) very reasonable. After coming from Istanbul, we found the prices of the meals very reasonable. We stayed at Fidanka 3 nights and ate 2 dinners and 1 lunch. Breakfast was only weakness of the hotel per Turkish standards. They had cereals, yogurt and fresh fruits for international standards but as Turkish person I would expect homemade jams and homemade pastries for breakfast from Fidanka. They had their own olives from their backyard which was excellent and special for me!
However, when the weather was hot, I prefer their light breakfast!
All of the woods of the hotel originated from a very old mountain homes which they bought and tore down for Fidanka. Therefore the 90 years old windows became the tables of Fidanka with the owner's own creativity. Each corner of the hotel is done with a special touch! Artisan hotel! Flowers and pots are very interesting.
If I were to make a magnet of Kalkan, I would use the picture of Fidanka..
We rent a car therefore we did not have a transfortation problem between the downtown and Villa Mahal beach. 10 lira (4 pounds) per sun longchairs is a right price. The other one without charge is not good.
Last advice, Aubergine is the best restaurant in Kalkan (good food but you pay for the quality of the food).
Thank you Cuneyt (son in law, ex-banker like me)!
I met him there last week..I would definitly go back again, even every year!
They are going to have their second child this week!
Welcome new baby boy to Fidanka...
P.S. We were the only Turk at the hotel. The rest were British. Nice people, above middle class. Hotel was a good center while we were doing the sightseeing around. KAS (read like cash) is the best. nice town (27km to Kalkan). Recommended for shopping and eating. Many artists live there. Alot cheaper. Buy a pair of shoes from Sandaled by Selin, a dress from Papilio by Sumru, a ceramic birds from SERAMICA. Zeytin is the perfect restaurant by price and food and the view.
