“Wonderful hospitality!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2009

My wife and I spent 5 glorious days/nights at this lovely, quiet hotel. The location, food and friendly service was outstanding. We especially loved the meals overlooking the sea. This place is a gem, and we look forward to returning

Lovely Hotel with excellent staff. Breakfasts are delightful with a view over the sea. Watch out for the birds as they are very attentive! The beach area is very secluded and the bathing warm and safe. A lovely place to chill.
Made good use of the mini-bus to get to Kalkan, usually walking back via stops at the various bars and several restaurants on the way.
Our room was fairly basic but comfortable enough, again the view was lovely from the window.
Would definately go again, good time of year as weather still hot and warm in the evening.

We have recently stayed for 10 days at the Kulube Hotel. The hotel and the rooms were in need of renovation. We had a room that had been converted from 2 smaller rooms; the airco was only powerful enough for one. The bed was lumpy and very uncomfortable. The pool area was very good and offers fantastic views of the bay. Most of the staff were helpful and friendly, but there were one or two exceptions.

The hotel is a considerable distance from the town and coupled with the hills this makes it a walking proposition for the very fit only!

Kalkan has an amazing selection of very good restaurants. We particularly liked the Kalamaki, but also enjoyed: the Nar, Rendevous and Alternatif.

We were impressed with the friendliness of other holiday-makers in the hotel and in Kalkan.

We recently spent 7 nights in this hotel.

Hotel:
The hotel is situated on the edge of Kalkan - about a 30 minute walk from the old town. The walk into town is not for the faint-hearted as you have to climb some steep hills. Luckily the hotel provides a shuttle bus which runs into town 3 times a day (10am, 1pm & 8pm). Hotel Kulube overlooks a secluded cove which is ideal for snorkelling or just a leisurely swim. There are ample sun loungers dotted around the hotel, poolside and rocky cove. The first thing I noticed about Hotel Kulube was the stress-free, laid-back atmosphere, the staff were very friendly and helpful - nothing seemed too much bother.

Hotel Accommodation:
This is where things weren’t so good. We stayed in a duplex room; sitting room downstairs, shower-room on half-landing and double bedroom upstairs. The room has a spiral staircase with very narrow steps and is not recommended for anyone with mobility problems. The bedroom was really too small, with the absolute minimum storage. The novelty of a “quaint” room soon wore off as I trudged up and down the staircase. In addition, the general cleanliness was not up-to-scratch. The shower enclosure had a broken door and the shower head itself sprayed water all over the room. The linen was not changed daily and the towels were changed only once.

Hotel Food:
The hotel breakfast is standard fare and really nothing to shout about. Half-way through the holiday we decided to forgo breakfast and opted for brunch in Kalkan old town instead. We did eat lunch twice in the hotel's cove bar however, which was much better – tasty filled baguettes with a crisp salad.

Kalkan (Old Town):
Kalkan is a beautiful harbour town on the stunning Lycian coast. The compact old town is filled with nice shops, bars and some excellent restaurants. Regarding types of restaurant, there are two choices; harbour or rooftop. We ate out every night and opted for rooftop dining each time. My previous experience of tourist resort restaurants was that they tended to be very mediocre, with poor service and surly waiters - this is definitely not the case in Kalkan. It really is difficult to have a bad dining experience in this town (but read on). Of the restaurants we tried, our top three were; “Kalamaki” – excellent food and service; “Maya” – small, cosy restaurant with great authentic Turkish food; “Old Trading House” – as before, great food. We do not recommend “Coast @ Gironda” and we especially do not advise a visit to “Kosk”, which merits a special mention. Kosk is in a prime location in the centre of the town. We were enticed inside by a friendly waiter who showed us the interesting menu. At first glance the restaurant looked good; open kitchen with lots of waiters bustling about. Unfortunately, after being ignored by the aloof waiters for 5 minutes, we walked out. The waiters certainly noticed us leaving... If you like being ignored and value poor service then this is place for you – all others should avoid. In the end it was a blessing in disguise as we went to Kalamaki – which was superb.

Kalkan Paragliding:
Opposite the taxi rank you’ll find a stand advertising Skyline tandem paragliding flights over Kalkan bay. It is heartily recommended! Our paragliding pilot, Halil, put us at ease from the start. He explained the procedure and agreed a pick-up the following day. The next morning we were taken to the summit of Bezirgan in a jeep, where we enjoyed stunning views of Kalkan town and the surrounding countryside. I was the first to jump. After being strapped into a harness, with a seat, Halil explained that I was to run when he said and lift my feet when told. This I did and was airborne within 5 seconds. The next 30 minutes were the highlight of the holiday, as I glided gracefully over the mountain and down into the bay. The landing site is just behind to harbour. The process was then repeated for my wife. Halil is a very friendly guy and a consummate professional. This was an experience we won’t forget!

Despite being at the end of a 25 minute stroll (or free minibus ride) into the village centre this hotel has the best beach facilities you could wish for. Compared to the surprisingly cool water of the main Kalkan town beach, the Kulube beach is situated in a sheltered cove with warm water for swimming and snorkelling and great views for a drink watching the sun go down.
For a change from the hotel facilities, which are catering for a captive audience, the road into the town provides supermarkets for cheap water, snacks and alcoholic drinks, Cafe Vita as a great lunch and drinks spot, the bar Pasha for decent cocktails (do not confuse with Pasha in the town centre which definitely do not have the best cocktails in town) and La Sera for excellent and great value Turkish baths and massage facilities.
Restaurants for proper Turkish food recommended in Kalkan itself are the Korsan Meze bar (close to the town beach) with an excellent set lunch menu and Belgins Kitchen for the sitting on cushions and rugs experience.

My wife and I, have just returned from a wonderful week at the delighful Kulube hotel in the resort of Kalkan. After leaving our young daughter at home with grandparents, we were both looking forward to a peaceful, relaxing week without children, and that is just what we got, and needed.
This small hotel is friendly, classy, and full of charm, the views from the hotel are breathtaking, and the atmosphere is quiet and chilled out.
The hote shuttle bus into Kalkan town is great and the walk home is no more than 25 minutes and much needed after a big meal. Kalkan town is beautiful, there are so many rooftop restaurants to choose from, but I can recommend, salt and pepper, sofra, and doy doy. It is worth noting, that this is not a totally cheap resort and I found that sharing a starter, main course each, sharing a dessert , all washed down with a nice bottle of wine, would set you back about 110 turkish lire, approx about 45 pounds.
The beauty of this resort is that it is for people with a certain amount of stlye and class, therefore you can be safe in the knowledge that you won't have to deal with any lager louts, or blokes with tattoo's on their neck wearing burberry caps.
The local people, are warm and friendly, and I would reconmend having a tukish bath at the beginning of your holiday, as it is a great experience, and helps with getting a nice even all over tan.
In my opinion kalkan and the Kulube hotel is ideal for those couples looking for a chilled out romantic getaway that has a bit of stlye.

The Kulube hotel i think is in the best location, it is sea view all around and is absolutely stunning. We were in a duplex room, it was great, clean and we had two bathrooms, one for me and one for my partner! We had an amazing view from our room, the view is outstanding!

The pool was always clean plenty of sunbeds and never overcrowded, the sea and the walk down to the sea is almost like the secret garden. The gardens are kept very well.
The bar staff were fantastic and very friendly we could not fault them, thank you to all of them, Hakki, Mustafa the list goes on. Bulent the manager was lovely very helpful with my enquiries and very accommodating.

The breakfast was great, fresh bread, fruit and all other things plentiful. olives, cheeses, breads, jams (even aubergine jam), hams, melon, necterines, grapes, lovely filtered coffee, cerelas, toaster, eggs, scrabbled eggs, omletes, beef suasage, flavoured teas, turkish tea etc etc etc and the view while eating breakfast is priceless.

The shuttle service that the hotel provides is great and drops you right in the toen centre and only takes 4 minutes. The walk back is wonderful.

The town is magical with all the restaurants on the roof over looking the harbour and sea. The Olive Garden and Paparazzi Restaurant were amazing, the staff were incredible and very very friendly, the food was delicious, we could not say a bad thing about them.

Great bars and great everything basically, you would be a fool not to try this place. All in all a perfect holiday which left us feeling relaxed and very lucky to have experienced the beautiful place of the kulube and kalkan.
