“there are better places to visit”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

We visit Olymphos during walking Lycian way. If it is on your route is worth a visit, if you have to detour do only if you have sufficient time.
we prefered Letoon

“Meh, go to Tlos instead”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

How did this get UNESCO World Heritage status? The other ruins in the area, Tlos, Patara, and Letoon, all have the same or better features (Theater, Stadium, etc.) and some better ones that Xanthos doesn't have. It's one big attraction is a large, towering sarcophagus with some non-original carvings of Harpies. That's the big thing in the back-right of this attraction's tripadvisor thumbnail. The original carvings got jacked by the British for their museum so they've got clay copies in place. The rest of the site is rather mundane compared to the other options- a collection of unrecognizable stone walls. By comparison, Patara has a well restored assembly hall, the beach, and a half-sunken area. Letoon has a really neat sunken area, and Tlos, my favorite, has some really amazing tombs carved directly into the rock as well as a great view. I say skip it and go straight to Tlos then head to Patara to round out your ruin experience and relax on the beach.

“Well worth a visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

Not as good as the ruins at Patara but well worth a visit. Interesting amphitheatre and Lycian pillar tombs. Some of the original inscriptions are in the British Museum.
