“A truly happy hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

We have just spent a delightful fortnight in the Happy Hotel, Kalkan and feel inspired to recommend the hotel to other travellers. The most important aspect of any hotel in impressing its visitors has to be its staff and the Happy Hotel didn't disappoint. Without exception, the staff were friendly, fun, courteous and professional and by the end of the holiday, they felt more like friends whose company we had enjoyed. We booked half board before we arrived and were not disappointed by the choice or standard of what was offered. In fact, I felt really bad about not being able to taste everything that was on offer as the chef proudly presented his menu each evening. My expanding waistline couldn't keep up! Our 2 teenage boys enjoyed the table tennis table and games room and the pool was of a very high standard compared to what we saw elsewhere in Kalkan. We booked a family suite, not really knowing what to expect but our 2 very large rooms and great balcony with views over Kalamar Bay were a pleasant surprise. All in all, one of the best places we have holidayed.

This was our first visit to Turkey and did so because my sister had rented a villa in Kalkan. We chose the Happy Hotel simply because it was near their villa. I wouldn't say it is a four star, but it is a good three star - the staff were so friendly and helpful and the views from the bedrooms and the pool were stunning. Yes the rooms are dated, but they are comfortable and the shower was fantastic! We worried that there would not be enough sun loungers for all guests, and although some people reserved their beds and didn't appear until the afternoon (you know who you are - selfish!), there was always a bed or two free because people have so many places to go during the day. We tried the kuluba free beach just down the road which was gorgeous - rock platforms set into the cliffs and beautiful clean sea to swim in, absolutely gorgeous. We also took a boat to the Palm Beach club one day - it was busier, it had a floating trampoline/raft and water sports but the Kuluba was much prettier and less 'busier'. We did the Katara boat trip - hired a boat for 10 of us for 75 lira each (£25) and this was for transport there, 7 hours at sea including lunch, 4 or 5 snorkel stops!

We only ate breakfast and lunch at the Happy Hotel and it was good. Every meal, bar one, that we had in Kalkan was delicious and good value for money. We decided to eat near to the hotel one night and went to the Elixir Hotel as the rooftop terrace sounded good. The starters were good but then we waited for an hour for the main course and when it came it was cold; my daughter's 'medium' steak was very bloody and my husband's steak was frozen in the middle! When we complained the waiter just walked off shaking his head! Tables all around us were sending food back and one table walked out as they had waited over an hour for their food! We then waited another 40 mins for the puddings! We were expected to pay the full bill which was three times as expensive as any other restaurant! And of course, my husband was very ill all night as a result of his half frozen steak. Dreadful service, dreadful food - don't go there!

I loved the oldtown of Kalkan, some really nice shopping to be had although the heat was a killer as were the hills! All in all, we would return to Kalkan and probably return to the Happy Hotel as it was peaceful, friendly and near to the Kuluba beach, with a shuttle bus into town.

Room Tip: The delux room had a sitting area and a huge balcony.

Have just returned from a visit to the Happy hotel.

We went for a week and hopefully this will provide some useful info.

The hotel is really good and the food excellent value for money, all was to a good standard, no probs there! Pool is fab and very big, could do with a few more loungers as it was a bit short at times but nowhere near as bad as some places, a really nice hotel. We had to use medical assistance whilst we were there and reception staff were fabulous and so helpful and kept checking my wife was ok.

Two small negatives: the wi-fi was intermittent most of the time (especially in block 5) and also it being 15 mins walk to the main centre (uphill in the height of summer) was not good although the hotel does provide a bus which is "well used"

The resort is ok lots of bars and restaurants although the menus are all pretty similar, the further into the bay you go the higher the prices but the food is not necessarily better (you are paying for the view), we didnt have a bad meal though food quality was good whether we paid 15TL for a main meal or 40TL. There werent a lot of activities to do and the resort was relatively laid back

We preferred Dalyan last year as there was a bit more to go out and see.

Overall a good hol, good hotel but the resort was a little too "sleepy" for us

thanks Happy hotel for a pleasant stay

Room Tip: Select a room higher in the block to get a good view of the bay

I can't say good enough things about this hotel. The location and layout is fab. Out of the way of the main town, so nice and quiet, and with stunning views from the pool terrace and some of the rooms that face that way. Really, the layout of the hotel is perfect for this. It's not particularly flashy but also, I wouldn't describe it as basic, it's comfortable and pleasant. As well as clean. The staff are excellent, friendly and super polite. Great service. We went the week before the schools broke up it was so quiet and peaceful there. Plus, it is great value for money and not too expensive. The breakfast each morning was really tasty (can have pancakes made fresh and a good selection of cakes, cheeses, meats and fruit. We ate at the hotel on night on the buffet and the food was so DELICIOUS! Other nights we ate out in Kalkan which is has a huge choice to eat from. All in all, couldn't recommend it enough.

I guess the only downside would be that it's not right on a beach (if this is what you want) Kalkan is a port town. However there is a small bay down the hill. Plus Patara beach and Kaputas are not far away and easily accessible by bus, for a day trip. These beaches more than make up for their short bus ride journey. They are incredible beautiful.

Room Tip: The double deluxe room overlooking the pool is exceptional.

Having just returned from a week at Happy Hotel and the best bit about the hotel are the staff and its great value.
Our family suite was very spacious and clean and the breakfast was a pleasant surprise. A chef on hand to make pancakes and eggs as well as cold cheeses and meats it offered a good choice of quality food which was included in our deal.

Downsides were the decor which is dated, the other guests were very British, and this is a child friendly hotel - so be aware of kids in the pool.

The pool was another plus - Olympic in size and refreshing. As well as this there is a cold jacuzzi. - great for cooling off and reading a book.

Free shuttle bus takes you into town which you need as the location is a min 30 minutes walk in the heat from the old town.

I have been to Kalkan a number of times and this is the only hotel I would consider going back to. The property overlooks the beautiful Kalamar Bay and is a short (but very steep) walk away from a private beach. It is also close to the downtown Kalkan area where we ate almost every night.
My favorite aspect of the hotel was the friendly staff. They made our stay very pleasant. The only negative I would note is that the facility is rather old. Although the rooms look clean, the furniture, the towels and the sheets in the rooms are worn out. So do not expect a four star facility but you can be sure to get very friendly service at a very reasonable price.

spent a week in the happy hotel, end of June, found the hotel to be very helpful in many ways. was over to celebrate my wife`s brothers wedding in the resort! the hotel staff could not be more friendly and nothing was a problem for them! They also arranged for the minibus to take the "GROOM , BEST MAN AND USHERS, plus myself, son and friend down to to the Marina for the wedding! this was done as a courtesy, even though they were not staying in the Hotel!!!
As this was our first visit to Turkey, We found the resort to be very relaxing with plenty to do, would recommend the HAPPY HOTEL to others and we are now looking forward to another visit in the near future.

Room Tip: block 2 middle floor 213/214 gives you tons of space
