“World class views, excellent value for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Just returned from Kalkan and this was our first experience of a Hotel stay
This was an early/ mid May stay and the Hotel had just opened for the season. It was very quiet at this time so this review is based at a low room occupancy.
The deluxe rooms are spacious and the en suite large, well finished and good water pressure in the shower. The furniture is perhaps a little outdated but the room was very clean. Sliding doors lead onto a large terrace and the views looking onto Kalamar Bay are world class and this is no exaggeration. It overlooked the 25 m swimming pool and separate kiddies pool.
We only ate lunch at the restaurant on a couple of occasions and the pizzas and salads were as good if not better than in town. Other residents also commented on the quality of the evening meal although we had no personal experience.
The Hotel is situated in Kalamar well over a mile from town but they run a shuttle bus three times a day and back so we did any travelling within these time parameters. The last bus through to Kalkan was 19-00 hrs returning at 22.30 which was ideal lenght of time for dining and a bit of shopping
On a closing note i can say the Happy Hotel made for a very memorable holiday and one we intend on repeating very soon.

We stayed at The Happy in September this year and couldn't have enjoyed it more. Friendly, clean,in a great position & ideal for couples or friends (we travelled as a group of four friends) we really could not have asked for a better stay. We found the pool area to be very relaxing and totally devoid of the mad-grab fraternity you get at other places and the rooms were ample and spot on. Food was good (although we ate in town most evenings) and there was always plenty at breakfast,no mad-dashing here. It speaks volumes when most of the clientel are repeat customers.. I can't think of anything negative at all (the steep nature of some of the streets nearby may not suit some people)...We'll be back!

like previous review didn't really want to share this info. but feel compelled to do so - visited Happy Hotel in June 2012 after a disappointing stay at the Kalamar Hotel the preivous year - what a difference, the Happy Hotel is brilliant. Rooms are large and comfortable, lovely, friendly, helpful staff, can't say a bad word about it, just hope we can get in next year!

Room Tip: all good rooms

Stayed in the Happy Hotel for a week at the end of August with my family, wife and 3 teenage children The hotel is as most of the other reviews say clean but a bit tired. The views are fantastic and the staff very friendly. It's near enough to Kalkan and we were able to walk or get the shuttle bus into town. We did have a very nice time but our trip was spoiled by having money stolen from our room and the total lack of interest from the hotel management was very disappointing. We were passed onto the travel republic rep who also wasn't very helpful. We could have said nothing but we felt the staff were so nice that they needed to know that money had been stolen. Given the other great reviews maybe our experience was a one off. There is a safety deposit box in the room which you have to pay for on a daily basis. we had some sterling in Well covered in a bag. Wasn't really bothered amount the amount stolen £40stg it was more the principle and lack of responsiveness that bothered me.
Enjoy the Happy Hotel, the views and the friendly staff just keep a eye on your valuables.

We have just finished our 2 week holidays at Happy hotel in Kalkan and once again we are very very happy for
our choice!
We have been there 2 years ago so we knew it was good, if it's possible we were even happier this time !
Genuine friendly clean tranquil romantic fun ...very easy to describe it 's:
Just Happy!
Breakfast is great , huge choice and all fresh! Delux room is amazing with a view that makes your day everyday. The house ladies are friendly and they clean you room every day , plenty of towels every day.A Little gym , just what you need!
We have been spoiled to rotten all the time by the incredibly naturally friendly members of staff. It 's not the result of a customer care training! It 's truly attitude toward guests! Well done one more time Kalkan and Happy hotel!
We also loved to play with dogs and cat , let free in the roads, clean and well trained , just friendly as Turkish pets can be, not invasive , and absolutely calm. One very peculiar thought : I haven't seen any , I mean any, dog or cat drop in the streets or beaches or anywhere.
The level of cleanliness in Kalkan is inspiring.
We 'll be back! Thanks to all the great people and staff that makes guests really comfortably happy ! Marina and Terry

This hotel had the most amazing views that I have ever stayed in. I would defo recommend upgrading to the deluxe room as its worth the extra money.

The few bad points I would say is that the food was not really my cup of tea. The cleaners come very early to clean the rooms. This hotel is in need of some modernisation. But you have to remember that you are in a small village not a main town. We went bed and breakfast as there are so many lovely restaurants on the roof to try. I had fried ice cream which was a new experience and the steaks in other restaurants (Ekin Han Hotel) which are a short walk away was the nicest steak I have ever eaten. We loved it so much the food in Ekin Han Hotel we did go back a few times.

The walk in to town was rather steep but once you have eaten a huge meal it was welcoming. Ladies do not take your heels.

I would go back to Kalkan again just for the views.

Room Tip: Go for a deluxe rooms. For the amazing views and large balcony.

I’d like to write that it was a terrible hotel and the staff were awful -- to put people off going here! We don't want it to get too popular! But the great reviews written by so many people are spot on -- It's an excellent hotel with really lovely, friendly staff who all make you feel very welcome. We only had a standard room and the balcony didn't have great views as there was a large Bougainvillea growing across the front, but we decided that the room was so nice we'd stay, and anyway, we spent very little time in the room or on the balcony!

The pool was the best we've ever seen at any of the hotels we've stayed at -- a rectangular pool 25M long, with lanes marked -- ideal for swimming, whether you like to slowly pootle up and down with your head out of the water, or you like to put your goggles on and do some serious swimming -- we realised that it worked for everyone when we saw a guy doing steady lengths with tumble turns!

Breakfasts were lovely, sitting at tables along the pool, enjoying the view and feeding crumbs to the sparrows; there was plenty of choice and the 'egg man' was kept busy cooking omelettes, fried eggs and pancakes to order. We enjoyed a really good breakfast and skipped lunch. Dinner was always a challenge -- which restaurant tonight? There are many recommendations here on Trip Adviser, and guests we talked to all had their favourites. But there’s so much choice you really just have to walk into Kalkan and check out the menus, stop at one of the bars for a cold beer or a cocktail whilst you mull over the options, and then make your choice. Our favourites were:
- ‘House’ -- just out of the hotel and round the corner to the left and down the hill towards the beach club – modern, open-plan restaurant with an interesting menu – the nearest restaurant to the hotel, just 5 minutes walk away
- ‘Café Vita’ – just a short walk on the way down to Kalkan – sometimes quiet and sometimes very busy, especially on Wednesday nights when they have a 3-course BBQ for £10 a head – excellent value!
- ‘The Olive Garden’ – great views from a terrace high above the street, lovely food
- ‘Belgin’s Kitchen’ – more traditional, where you sit on cushions on the floor, although there is a terrace with tables and chairs

Kalkan was delightful, with so many shops, bars and restaurants in narrow streets sloping steeply down to the harbour. Warnings in other reviews that the Happy Hotel and Kalkan are not for anyone who has a mobility problem are absolutely correct -- there are no flat roads or tracks here! But the hotel runs a courtesy bus down to the town at 10am, 2pm, 7pm and 10.15pm, returning 15 minutes later. On market day (Thursday) they’ll take you there, and if you want to catch a bus they’ll take you to the bus station!

We had a great time here, and met lots of lovely people – the fact that so many were returning for their umpteenth stay indicated how popular it is. We rarely go back, as there are ‘so many places to visit before we … ‘, but we think that the ‘Happy’ will be an exception, and we’ll be back!
