“Friendly, welcoming and peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

This is a lovely little hotel with so much to recommend it, that it is difficult to know where to start. It feels almost as if you have your own villa - with staff! The position is stunning - the pool terrace and restaurant area overlook the Bay providing a great backdrop to breakfast or evening meals.
The service is outstanding. From the minute you arrive, you are made to feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff. The manager, Burhan, is very approachable and goes out of his way to ensure that you have a good stay, helping with arrangements or advice at any time. He personally welcomes guests on arrival and speaks with them everyday, and is genuinely interested in them. He finds time everyday to check that everything is going OK and even popped over to say hello when we met him out and about on his day off. The whole hotel is spotless and well maintained and any issues are dealt with promptly and efficiently - in our case, for example, fixing a broken air conditioning unit within 10 minutes, in the middle of the night.
The breakfasts are excellent with a wide selection: cereals, fruits, cheeses, toast, yoghurt, cold meats, juices etc etc.
There are over 100 restaurants in Kalkan which vary in price and it is possible to eat out very cheaply- or expensively. The restaurant at the Ekinhan is mid range but good value especially when you consider the quality and freshness of the food, the position and the service which are all very good.
The pool area is quiet and friendly and ideal for relaxing in the sun with occasional dips in the pool to cool off. Drinks and snacks can be ordered as needed from Valentino or Ali who are friendly and attentive. Perfect!
(On some days, there was music playing quietly in the background - a very eclectic mix of turkish, modern and oldies - but never intrusive and definitely not 'blaring'. On many days, there wasn't any music at all.)
The Ekinhan is on the edge of Kalkan which means it is a really peaceful place to stay and quiet at night. The town centre is a 20 minute walk or a few minutes by taxi - essential in the heat of the day.
We had a really lovely time at the Ekinhan and would recommend it to anyone looking for a calm, relaxing break.

The size of this hotel works to it's advantage, if you enjoy personal attention, flexibility and service that is generally hard to find in larger hotels. From the time we arrived to the time we left fourteen days later, the staff were extremely attentive, thoughtful and pleased to help. We were a family of five from 13 upwards and all had a fab time. The pool is not huge if you want to swim lots of lengths, but it's well maintained and more than adequate to cool down and splash about in, the pool side sunbeds were never over crowded. The pool setting and the view from the dining terrace is stunning. We loved the breakfasts and enjoyed eating here in the evenings on several occasions. There's a good menu for a small restaurant and the food was really tasty. Burhan, the hotel Manager, personally greeted the guests at breakfast every day and was on hand to help with excursions and any other special requirements. Valentino and Ali ran the bar and looked after the restaurant guests. These guys were very respectful but good fun too. We all enjoyed their company and service. The hotel is a little outside of the main part of Kalkan and because of the heat / hills we elected for a short taxi ride when we went into town, but consequently it's quiet at the Ekinhan when you want to sleep at night. The rooms aren't the biggest and because of steps up to it and terrace location not ideal for parents with toddlers, but they're the only negatives I can think of. We selected this hotel partly on the strength of it's Tripadvisor rating and feel overwhelmingly compelled to add to the excellent reviews it deservedly has.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view.

A lovely setting with beautiful views and impeccable cleanliness. Best breakfast we have ever had in Turkey. Nice pool but local beach clubs are handily placed and the town ones can be accessed by cheap dolmus. Two minor quibbles - is it really necessary to play loud pop music from 11 am around the pools- especially when there are only 5 or 6 guests using the place with an average age of 55+. And why is the bar and restaurant so expensive? Yes there are fabulous views but the prices are eye watering- as dear (and sometimes dearer) as the most expensive places in the old town. Use Cafe Vita or Aqua (both within 100 yards)for cocktails and food.

Room Tip: Our room had a sea view- fabulous to wake up and see the sea. There is a road nearby but it is very...

Everything about our nine-day stay at the Ekinhan Hotel was spot on. The food - in particular the breakfast - was fab. The pool was ideally situated, rarely overbusy, and was of a perfect size. The totally professional, positive, and utterly helpful staff were a delight; nothing was too much trouble. It is about a 25 minute walk into town, but there are plenty of eating places on the way, together with a multitude of taxis. Our stay was especially good value, given the stunning view over the bay from our room; virtually all rooms have a similar outlook over the Med. I cannot recommend it highly enough if you would like a quiet time by the beautiful sea. Go now!

We had a great time in this hotel. The position is delightful - waking up to a magnificent view down to bay surrounded by mountains. A lovely terrace for breakfast - and dinner - and a really decent sized pool and sun terrace which was never too busy because of the relatively small number of guests. For us, the no young children policy was another plus, as were the staff - really friendly. The main issue for most people would be the distance from town - not a problem at all for us; a pleasant downhill walk of about 25 minutes (with a number of restaurants on the way) and if you don't fancy the walk back after a good dinner in town (plenty of nice restaurants) then it's a reasonable and quick taxi ride back. I can't recommend this place too highly.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms facing the pool - they also have the bay view.

We have just returned from a week at the Ekinhan with Burhan and his team - we loved every minute. Ignore the previous comment with regard to Burhan; we were made to feel very welcome irrespective of where we chose to eat The hotel is located in a fabulous position with great views and the staff can't do enough for you. The food and service are excellent with the prices very reasonable in comparison to Kalkan town restaurants which can be expensive with the promise of a wonderful sea view in the dark! We even experienced Christmas music in the bar one night and had a good laugh about it with the staff and fellow guests. Rest assured, irrespective of the previous comment, this hotel is of fantastic value, service and friendliness - we will return!

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view - you won't be disappointed

I must say that the sparkle has been taken out of this once lovely little hotel by the management.

Having stayed at the Ekin Han for a fourth time in June this year, it is a shame the current management has prioritised ways of getting hold of your money, rather than providing the service as experienced by Zaynal the owner and his family in previous years.

A dim view is taken and you are treated as outcasts when you decide to eat in town, where there is still plenty of choice and better prices for both lunch and dinner. For a15 bedded hotel Bourhan the manager did not even ask or know our names and we were made to feel most uncomfortable when going into town for dinner, we did not even get a "goodnight" when we returned.

When we stayed before Zaynal usd to lay on a mini bus to take you into town, so everyone used to meet in the bar and socialise with a drink before going, this no longer happens now, I suppose Bourhan feels that if he doesn't provide the bus people will stay in the hotel and spend their money.

Bourhan, you need to get a life and think of your customers and service to make this once lovely little place great again, rather than spending all day tapping at the calculator.

So if you are thinking of booking, try staying in the hotel 24/7 and you might be made to feel welcome.

We are sorry to say we will not be returning to the EKIN HAN!!!!! TRY THR ELIXIR UP THE ROAD INSTEAD.
