“We Love the Sherwood Breezes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

We returned 3 weeks ago from our 2nd year at the Sherwood Breezes and have already rebooked for 2014. We travelled with a large group of 6 adults and 5 children ranging from 3- 9 and the Sherwood breezes was wonderful for everyone in our party. All the children loved the wide range of kids club activities and were well looked after by Julia and Kenan who are just fantastic people. The adults had fun to plenty to do for the more active in out group: water polo, shooting, beach volleyball, football and banana boat, while us mums just sat in the sunshine around the pool, at the beach or on the pier. There were always plenty of sunbeds, plenty to eat and drink and huge variety. The pools and slides were also very popular and great fun.

The rooms were very clean nice shower and free mini bar stocked daily. The evening entertainment was superb and we all enjoyed every minute, from the kids disco, dancing,a comedy show etc.. We also attended a beach party and garden party which were great fun. All made possible by the entertainments team who work tirelessly to make sure everyone in having a wonderful time.

Although we did consider trying another hotel next year at the end of the day the Sherwood Breezes has everything we need for a fantastic family holiday so we have just booked up again for the same week next year.

Thank you Sherwood Breezes for an amazing time and see you next year XXXX

5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

My girlfriend and I just got back from our first trip abroad together to Lara Beach, Antalya. We opted to stay at the Sherwood Breezes resort, and before leaving we’d checked the Trip Advisor reviews which were overall excellent but we were growing very concerned about a lot of bad reviews for the bar service and the overall quality of the hotel facilities.

In our recent experience, staying between the 3rd and 10th June, we can confirm that none of those reviews are true. We had an absolutely fantastic time and, whilst there were a couple of minor issues, these were not signficiant enough to reduce this review to anything less than 5 stars.
For ease, I’ll separate the review into sections and talk about any positives and minor negatives within those sections.

Transfer
-----------

We were the 4th stop on the transfer which took around 20 minutes, which flew by with the information provided over a microphone by one of the reps. Coach driver was very efficient at loading and unloading the coach and if we had change on us, we certainly would have tipped him!

Check in/out
------------------

Upon arrival around 10pm we went to the check-in desk where you’re asked to sign in. Ordinarily the hotel would arrange for your bags to be taken up to your room for you, but given the delay on our flight we decided it’d be quicker to take them up ourselves than to wait for an assistant. All in all a speedy process done within 10 minutes, and check-out when we left literally involved handing in our key cards. If you do have a later return flight like we did, you can leave your baggage in an unlocked side room for the day.

Despite bad reviews about bad service, we did not experience it here. Polite staff, often smiling and doing their best to assist. (more on this later!)

Room
---------

As previously mentioned, we’d seen some bad reviews on the interiors of the hotel rooms and worried the room might be too small or with bad décor. Once again these turned out to be pure myth. We stayed in Room 1615 which faces the adjacent Royal Wings hotel and pools – who cares if it’s not our own hotel, it was a beautiful view, especially in the evenings when all the lights are on (including a nearby Ferris wheel that looks nice!) Our room had a small but cosy balcony with two plastic chairs and a table.

Our room itself was well decorated overall. Décor was fantastic and there were really very few negatives. The TV is mostly German with access to only ITV2/CNN in English (and in bad quality), but you’re not at the hotel for the TV so it didn’t matter. Luckily, contrary to some reviews here, our air conditioning worked fine and never felt uncontrollably hot or cold.

The bathroom was clean and tidy. Shower was powerful and no complaints can be made in that department.

Food/drink
---------------

If there was going to be any threat to the 5-star rating of this hotel, it would be the food. Whilst we were content and managed to eat all meals comfortably with the selection of food on offer, the buffet was repetitive for breakfast and dinners (no bacon!!) not particularly large for lunch and hence we were forced to eat cheeseburgers, pizza and chips from the snack bar by the beach most days. Not awful by any means, but probably not 5-star standard.

We were disappointed not to visit the a la carte restaurants. Thomas Cook had advertised the hotel as having 5 restaurants, when in fact there are only 2 (Turkish & Italian), but that’s a problem with our operator not the hotel itself. We went on the 3rd day to book and it was full, so if you want to go, book early. In the end we took a trip to the Kaleci old city for our Italian meal by the harbour, very nice and reasonable price (32 TL for the two of us).

Elsewhere the food was much better – ice creams are available from 1pm and are a nice treat, as are the donuts from 3pm!

Drinks are widely available from various bars, and again we had no issue with service. Soft drinks include Fanta (Yedigun), Pepsi and others (but beware they are sweeter than the British equivalents), as well as some slush-like orange drinks from the bar near the main pool.

Alcoholic drinks are usually one beer brand (Efes) which thankfully was pretty nice, and cocktails. If you do opt for cocktails from either the Tower Bar or the Cocktail Bar, I recommend asking for less spirit or else you WILL get 3 or 4 measures and be worse for wear come morning.

Staff
-------

As mentioned above, and in other reviews, we had concerns that we’d be victims of bad service from the waiting staff and others. In reality we had no issues whatsoever, and I reckon a lot of the bad reviews here can be put down to not having a proper understanding of Turkish culture and the realities of working in a high-throughput customer industry. The staff can appear a little blunt at times, but do remember there is a language barrier as most of them only speak Turkish, Russian & German. They do speak English, and you can place orders, but bear in mind it is not their native or secondary language!

All our waiting staff were excellent, and staff throughout the hotel always tried their hardest to serve us efficiently and fairly. Other reviews report bad service at the bar to the English compared to Germans, but we didn’t experience this. Special thanks to the women who served the ice cream downstairs by the pool and in the restaurant, always smiling and offered to take our picture together even when busy!

On the second day I stupidly locked us out of our room safe, with all our belongings in it. I went to reception and they speedily sorted out security to come and sort it. No issues!

The animation team evidently work hard and it’s difficult to escape their view! They will softly bully you into playing games but if you’re adamant you don’t want to play then they will leave you in peace eventually! After all they do need to pressure people into playing! ;) Others do look like a lot of fun, like the beach football and water polo.

Entertainment
--------------------

The animation team put on great entertainment during the day for kids and adults alike. Water polo, football, table tennis, pool games, water gym, beach gym etc. Plenty of choice! We opted to avoid most of these activities to make the most of the pool facilities, however.

Evening entertainment was touch and go – some evenings were very impressive (Colombian Dancers!) and others fairly mediocre (Eurovision!), but they try their hardest and the staff are impressively multilingual during the shows to include everybody. One of the reviews below complained about the standards in the show being suitable for children – there is a reason there are two shows, a kids one and an adult one. In my opinion it wasn’t vulgar (no nudity or swearing) but if you’re concerned, keep your kids out by the 21:30 start time for the adult show. Not rocket science!

Facilities
------------

6 swimming pools – adult relaxation pool, main pool, infinity pool, slide pool, kids slide pool and kids pool. Evidently we only tried the relaxation, main, infinity and slide pools but all were excellent – not crowded, no queuing for slides, and very clean. Beautiful waterfall flowing from the infinity pool down to the main pool which is worth a trip under (just mind your head on the artificial rocks!).

Additionally there is one indoor pool which looks clean and tidy, and might be worth a try if the weather is awful. We didn’t bother since it was >35 degrees most days. We also didn’t bother with the spa, so couldn’t comment on that.

Slides were amazing, 5 slides: 2 bendy slides, 2 steep drop slides and one double width slide for couples to go on. Speedier than expected but that adds to the rush! Kids slides were similar in the kids slide pool, but just smaller imitations.

Location
------------

Lara Beach is fantastic – golden sand (WEAR SANDALS, VERY HOT!!), beautiful blue seas with plenty of activities (jetskiing and parasailing, which we loved!). Reasonable prices around 40-60 euros, depending on how many of you there are. Always negotiate a discount, it is allowed! Also, if you get offered to buy the photos/videos for 40 euros, reject it. When we left and came back another day, he halved that price for us.

Plenty of markets to try nearby, and the LC38 bus stops nearby on the main road to go into Antalya, Kalechi, or to the larger shopping centres (e.g. TerraCity, premium brands only!). Like I said, remember to negotiate price no matter where you are – they will drop the price if you don’t accept the higher one. A rough guide is between 1/3 off the price in the main areas, and maybe ½ elsewhere.

There are waterfalls nearby, also reachable on the LC38 bus and though we didn’t go in the end, they are apparently worth a look. Besides all this and the bazaar markets, there isn’t a whole lot to do. If you’re looking for lots to do outside the area, I’d recommend going elsewhere in Turkey. If you want a beach holiday with the odd trip out, this is your hotel!

Overall opinion
---------------------
FANTASTIC! We would visit again, maybe in a few years after experiencing other countries. I’d be very sceptical of other reviews on this site as they are unnecessarily harsh on the hotel, often due to their own inability to have a good time. Thoroughly recommended!

Sherwood Breezes offered everything needed to enjoy our hotel. Accommodation clean and staff very welcoming. The entertainment team made the kids time so enjoyable too. I think anyone booking a holiday here will not be disappointed . Food choices great with lots of ice cream and fruit choices in afternoon. Definitely would visit again.

We stayed for 2 weeks and had a brilliant time. Our 5 year old son enjoyed every minute of his holiday, either on the water slides, in the kids club out just running around laughing with his friends. The staff and entertainment team are always going that extra mile to try and get you involved in the activities and in particular, Dave with the darts and archery. The Hotel maybe a little tired and was running at capacity during the school break but overall it's as good or better in some respects than a couple of the other ones we stayed at before close by. The foods good with plenty of choice at the different locations on the complex and all 'in inclusive' does just what it says on the tin. Excellent value for money and we would have no problems booking to stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: The sea view is a must

We stayed for a week in May, and as I said in the title, it's not 5* but it is lovely!
Rooms are a decent size but we found the beds were hard and not too comfy. The lock on our balcony door was also broken, which for us wasn't a huge problem, but if there were kids then it would be far from ideal.
On the upside, the hotel is very clean. There are people constantly emptying bins and clearing tables.
The food was very very good, brilliant choice (my friend is a veggie and she was impressed too).
Entertainment looked good in the day but not so sure about the evening entertainment, we didn't have children with us but we caught the end of one show and we were surprised that it seemed totally unsuitable for kids!!!
The beach is wonderful and we were gutted that we didn't venture down there until the last day.
Staff were, as a whole good, but some of their English leaves a lot to be desired (seemed to be a predominantly German hotel so they all spoke fluent Turkish and German)
The Photo Team were amazing, we had a photo shoot on our last but one day and it was great fun! The photos were incredible and a wonderful souvenir to bring home! You would pay double the price for the same service back home and the scenery just wouldn't compare!
We went on two excursions that I would definitely recommend, one was an evening trip to 'Anatolia of Fire', a brilliant traditional Turkish dance show with 80 odd incredibly talented dancers. The second was a full day trip to Myra & Kekova, it's a long day so maybe not great for kids but the most amazing views!!!
The spa in the hotel is also well worth a visit, we had a full Turkish bath experience and it was wonderful!
The area is beautiful and would definitely go back but maybe not to Sherwood.

Just spent a fortnight at the sherwood breezes and can honestly say we all had a brilliant time. I travelled with my wife and 2 children aged 9 and 3 and met up with other family over there. Our kids were entertained and looked after brilliantly by Kenan and Julia who do a wonderful job at the kids club. Plenty of choice of food which was always good quality and available at all times of the day. The entertainment team do plenty of activities through the day, there's never any pressure to join in. I like games and stuff so got fully involved in the light hearted and great fun pool games as well as water polo and beach volleyball to name a few. Watch out for Mustafa the king of the water polo and "Super" Dave with his darts who do a great job as do all the entertainment team during the day and on a night time. These guys never stop.

Kids disco on a night time was well organised and again great fun for the kids as was the quality of the entertainment for everyone afterwards.

All in all a great holday, we're booking up again for next year
