“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

Stayed in the Big Blue Suite Hotel 24th Sept 2012 - 7th October 2012. Well reading some of the reviews, I think some people just love to moan! I have travelled to lots of places & admitedly its not up with my Mexican all inclusive, but this is one of my better non eu hotels. It is a long transfer but you should know this when booking, both ways took about 3 hours, we did stop at services both times though. Alanya is a beautiful place with a lovely harbour & castle & although the hotel was in the residential area the centre was in easy reach by a 60p bus ride which took about 10 minutes. Buses must run late as we came home on one about 1am, taxis only about £5 if not. Oba had many shops, restaurants, & pubs, this was a ten minute walk from the hotel. The hotel was spotless, food cooked fresh, with plenty to choose from, we especially enjoyed the fresh tuna & grilled meatballs. Pancakes cooked in the afternoon were to die for, my other half a fussy eater but ate well at this hotel. Waiters were very friendly our favourite been Nuri & Saban, on an evening was waiter service for drinks, these guys brought you another before you had finished the previous one! We enjoyed the tuborg on draft or the rose wine. Even the hotel Manager spoke to guests, we had a soft spot for the caretaker guy who worked such long hours & never stopped, we tipped him at the end of the holiday, he was so appreciative of it. Only downside of the hotel was lack of entertainment & to be honest this didn't bother us as we made some lovely friends. If you went on the trips in Alanya they were very reasonable, I would recommend the jeep safari it was so much fun. The entertainment guy was very slimy with the young girls & really needs removing from the hotel! We did hear the mosque but soon got used to it, after all we were in Turkey! This was our 1st time in Turkey & we were very impressed, would definately go back, & would stay in this hotel! For what we paid I believe we got a bargain.

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view then you wont hear the mosque so much.

Big blue suite
My first sight of this hotel dismayed me.as others have said,it is surrounded by residential flats, some of which are unoccupied.the surrounding area was dull, run down and lacking ammenities. On entering the hotel reception i was faced with the same, dull, uninspiring and basic look, maybe it was late, i was tired and it was empty but i grew accustomed to this and it was really ok  :-/

Checking in was easy and as we arrived as the evening meal was about to end we were kindly ushered in to the dining room to eat before our luggage was taken to our room.
We booked a standard room and i was quite happy to see that we had a seperate kitchen dining room,a bedroom and bathroom. Plenty of storage space but only one small shelf above the sink in the bathroom. Rooms were clean and attended to on a daily basis, there were always clean sheets and towels.
One thing to note is that only the bedrooms have AC

After 11 pm the staff seem to pack up and everything stops. There is really nothing to look forward to if you want entertainment, good if you want peacefull early nights otherwise 10 mins walk will take you to the beach road where you can either catch a bus ( 1.5 tl ) or walk 20mins to get to Alanyas bustling night life.. Be carefull as buses stop after 11pm and taxis can rip you off. I wouldn't pay more than 10 to 15 tl before 11pm. On the main road (2mins from hotel) it will take 15 mins walk to get to the beginning of shops and resaurants but there is a shopping mall opposite which includes a supermarket.(Carrefour/Alanym) There is also a bus stop and you can catch a No 1 bus to Alanya  center for 1.5 tl just ask for Jumma Bazar (friday market) which is the centre of everything even a minibus station where you can get buses anywhere along the coast road if you want to explore.
As far as food is concerned it is certainly 3 star but you wont starve if you don't like most of it. There is an abundance of salad, bread and cakes along with a limited amount of meat. It can become boring and repetitive after a week. Breakfast is made up of cereals, salad stuff, bland salami, bread and boiled eggs, however on different days you can have either ommlette or fried egg.

Staff are pleasant and attentive  but the reception staff could be a bit more welcoming and helpfull. The waiters always make sure you have whatever drinks you want although i have heard from many people that alcohol seems to have been watered down. One thing i didnt like was quite often they would take your plates and clear your table if you left it to go back to the food counters so one of us always stayed at the table, the waiters would even stretch accross you while you were eating ,to collect plates :-/

Wi fi is available @ 5 tl per day or 25 tl per week per person, per item. Equivalent to £2 a day and this was mostly unreliable during out stay. Expensive if there are 2/3 people in the room who want access.  most cafe's and restaurants outside  will give you free access.

We booked 2 weeks for two people,  at the last minute for  £460 so at that price we were satisfied. We got what we paid for! Some reviews said this hotel was worth more than 3* one or two even said 5* but i am telling you after 14 years of visiting Turkey and staying in 4/5* hotels this is not true.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool are best as your view from other sides show nothing but blocks of 5 story...

THIS REVIEW IS BASED ON THE HOTEL NOT THE HOLIDAY!
we stayed at the big blue for 2wks 15th sept 12-30th. we had an horrendous 4hr transfer to the hotel, transfers vary from 1hr to 5!! we had been up 24hrs to arrive to a room at 5.30am with the morning prayer call from the local mosque that is played 4x a day, wakes you up at 530 every morning, been a family of 3 with a 7yr old child, in our room were only 2 beds, 2 chair beds also that were rock hard & no bedding!!! we rang reception for bedding & the guy brought us wet sheets that had just come out of a washer, we rang reception & again he brought more wet sheets, he didn't understand anything I said!!! took over an hour to sort!! our room overlooked the local shopping centre & building works!!
When we awoke around dinner we went to look at the food choices!!!! OMG! we are by no means fussy but you were lucky to work out what was what!!! the tea wasn't any better! we ate out our first night! there is a snack bar daily very close to lunch which is generally burgers, and pasta with no sauce! there is a guy who makes fresh bread daily, who smokes near all the food & we witnessed him throwing tab ends in the oven with the bread!! there is a lady who makes sweet & savoury breads in the afternoon, big hit with my son!! breakfasts consist of 2 trays of snotty or rock hard boiled eggs & 3 trays of bread, or recycled food from the night before!!
fresh bread is baked daily which is nice, some of which you have to guess what's in it!!!!!!! if you like undercooked or over cooked eggs with bread & veg for breakfast you will be ok!!!!! we spent over £1000 on eating out the food was that bad!!!!!!
ALL INCLUSIVE is a joke!! most of the staff ignore people unless you are throwing tips at the constantly, they arent that bad off the all have iPhones & blackberrys!!! they would serve you when it suited them, & for cocktails they just made up the prices as they went along!! Most of the staff are rude, ignorant and unhelpful apart from nuri & saban, lovely people!!! mustafa wants sacking, he swore at several people for no reason & was rude!!
at night they are clearing up the sun beds to put out the dinner tables & if your sat having a drink they just move you, throwing water at your feet, 1 night I had to get changed because the manager threw water all up the back of my trousers!!!!
ENTERTAINMENT! 1 WORD!! TERRIBLE.. they guy who does the slides & entertainment is a perv, especially with young girls all under 16! he smacked one of our friends kids & swore on several occasions at children, at night he couldn't be bothered at all!!!
it's a shame I have had to write this review, the hotel is clean & tidy, just the staff, the food, the management let it down badly, alanya is a great place just a shame we chose this hotel, I wouldn't waste my money!!! we did have a great holiday, due to the people we met NOT the hotel at all.
So if you like bad service, horrendous food, not all inclusive, been ignored, prayer calls, and Pervy pool guys then this is for you!!!!

You get what you pay for at Big Blue - i thought the hotel was clean and comfortable, the pools were on the small side but not too busy in September and always plenty of sunbeds available.

Was quite impressed with the buffet, only complaint was the use of parsley in EVERY salad dish. Got a bit bored of the taste after a week! You could never go hungry at this place as there is food availabilty literally all day long.

Evening entertainment was pretty rubbish and the kids club cd is forever ingrained in my brain but overall had a great stay and would go back.

The one let down was that the hotel promised us use of a shower room as we had an evening flight, but when we went to use the room another group were already in there. 30 mins before our pick up the kind lady in the Turkish Spa let us use her showers otherwise we would have been stuck! The reception staff werent particularly helpful with this problem but it got sorted in the end!

Stayed at this hotel 31st August-5th September! Have no complaints about the hotel. Rooms, hotel, and grounds were spotless. Food was nice, but will take me a while to eat eggs n pizza again lol! But there is plenty of choice and you will not starve! Found the evening BBQ was always the best! Meatballs n couscous were to die for - this was on a lunchtime menu! All inclusive drinks are fine, no complaints, but maybe they are alcohol free or we just stuffed our faces that much it had no affect haha! Only thing that really bothered me was the play area - as it was out of sight of the seating area and had to keep checking on the little on - would b good to have it in full view, also with the evening entertainment being around the pool maybe a pool guard could be put up at night, as my heart was in my mouth everytime i seen a little one running by it! Overall a great hotel, would recommend more to couples and families that dont want to venture far as there is not much around!

We have just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks in the hotel. We found everything about the hotel and staff 1st class. From the moment we arrived at 3am we were served food and drink from the night staff and that was the level of service we got from the hotel throughout our stay. There was plentiful food and drink available throughout the day which included constant table service for drinks. The meals had plenty of options and were never too repetitive. The rooms were cleaned every day and were spotless. The free airconditioning was great. The pools were clean and the waterslides fun even for the adults. The entertainment was perhaps the weakest element but kids loved it and it is a family hotel. The entertainment for adults wasnt great but usually gave a giggle. Overall we would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Thanks to Mustafa, Nuri and all the guys for a fantastic 2 weeks.

Room Tip: Try and choose a pool view room, and request a double bed if travelling as a couple! We got one.
