The Yeniacun in Alanya turned out to be a bit of a pig. We arrived at around 4am after a flight delay of 2 hrs. just wanting a quick cup of tea and get to bed. The ‘night manager told us not to unpack as we would only be in the room one night and move to our proper room in the am. When we got up to the top floor we were put in what was only a room not the apartment we had booked. There were no facilities so all we could do was drink the water we had bought and hope for better in the morning. The manageress turned up at nine next day and confirmed we would be moving to our apartment but we had to wait for the present occupants to leave and the place to be cleaned. We eventually got in 604 around 11am and I have to say that the apartment we were in was large very comfortable and being at the back quite cool. We had 2 balconies one facing N. and one E. so we had somewhere to sit at all times of the day. The only fault we could find with the apartment was the usual slow drainage of the shower and the constantly dripping taps in wash basin this cured by placing a sponge in basin and rendering dripping silent so all was sorted. We relaxed and thought we were set up quite nicely for our 2 weeks. Saturday arrived and we were told we would have to move on the following Tuesday. They said that work had to be done. Tuesday came packed up ready then find a Scotsman still in the apartment we were to move to at 12pm with nothing packed as he had been told he could keep it as he wasn’t fling until the early hours of next morning. We had by then wasted yet another morning waiting to get into accommodation. The manageress had then been missing for a couple of days and we never saw her again. She left a man in her place who was totally overwhelmed by the job and as much use as a chocolate tea pot. The irate Scotsman was eventually evicted around 2pm and we finally got in to the new apartment 502 at around 2-30pm.. New apart. Seemed OK though it was a lot smaller but for just 2 was fine for us. It was only on returning that first afternoon after an half hour wait until they could find the key, that we began to see the draw backs. There was only 1 balcony on the corner facing S & W. It was totally unusable in the pm as it was in direct sun and far too hot to sit on. Only use we had from it was to dry towels etc. When it got dark our troubles really started. In living room was one light with very small bulb, couldn’t read by it, large up lighter in corner- didn’t work. Tried light over sink-didn’t work. Had to move table lamp from bedroom but this left bedroom too dark to use for makeup, hair etc. there were no power points anywhere to plug in hair dryers etc. except in bathroom which was so hot after use your hair wouldn’t dry and as it was the only place where the light was usable found make up just sliding off face. There was an extractor fan in the bathroom-didn’t work Toilet seat wouldn’t stay up and could be lethal if you were not careful, there was black mildew climbing up the shower screen which I suspect hadn’t been cleaned since it was installed. Bathroom also prone to ants & silverfish though I suppose we were lucky as several people had cockroaches in theirs!. During our stay in this apart. we had the sheets change once but the towels weren’t touched. Yes they were made into pretty patterns on the beds but we would have preferred clean ones! What really annoyed us was the fact that after a couple of days we realized that there didn’t appear to be any workmen in 604so after a bit of snooping found a Turkish family had been moved in and we had been lied to which I hate We were pestered to go to their Turkish night and even that was a farce as the belly dancer and ‘snake man didn’t turn up and the man who was putting on the so called show gave out raffle tickets and those whose tickets were drawn, all of them I think, were to be taken the following day to get their prizes and see a presentation. It was a Time Share Scam! I assume the hotel was getting a rake off for this. Thank God we didn’t have a ticket. This evening cost around £18 p.per.and was pretty poor value for a few dancers and a game of musical chairs which to me is hardly Turkish. The food however was good and of high standard all through our stay. I researched this hotel as well as I could and below are a list of things from their own web site that they list as facilities which just either don’t work or simply didn’t exist.
Mini Fridge, Direct-Dial Telephone, Kids Entertainment, Smoking area in Restaurant ( there was no ‘No smoking’ everybody smoked everywhere! ), Playground, Medical Service (Just a Dr’s phone number on an advert), Public Internet, Disco/Club, Hairdresser(Saw the room but nobody ever there), Central Heating, King Size Bed, Minibar, Radio, Hairdryer, Laundry Service, Pub, Supermarket ( unless you call a cold cabinet with some canned drinks , cartons of milk and bottles of water), Money Exchange (tried that, they never had any money),Massage, Indoor Pool, Heated Pool. Now I am well aware of the expression ‘You get what you pay for and always make allowances for this. But this hotel was a shocker . Mr & Mrs Cooke
