“Very modern for Turkey...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

We stayed here one night during our trip to Mt. Nemrut. I was amazed the modern style of the rooms. It rivals the boutique hotels in the US.

The service was great, and the staff were friendly. We were fortunate that there was no wedding party the night we stayed. Dinner in the outside garden was nice since we were the only ones at the hotel that night.

Breakfast was good.

I also appreciated the computers in the lobby for free Internet access.

I had heard that the accommodation on Mount Nemrut tour is basic at best and was very positively surprised by Hotel Antiochos. The rooms are nice with very good AC and nice bathroom. The room was facing the opposite side of the garden where a wedding was going on, so it was quiet there. The dinner was also good (the typical Turkish wedding meal, lamb), the only downside was a couple of people smoking in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet also had plenty of variety. The personnel were very friendly and helpful, so it was a nice stay there and I'd stay there again!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the opposite side of the garden

We stayed at the hotel on our 3-days organized Mt. Nemrut tour. In Turkey I have always been a budget traveller or stayed in a rustic counrty house, so I can say that it was probably the fanciest hotel I have stayed in in Turkey.
The room was comfortable, clean and had a good air-conditioning. The bathoom amenities were good (including a hair-dryer). We also had a dinner at the hotel and I suspect it was the food from the wedding party (very tender lamb and rice with nuts and liver). The breakfast was good as well.
There is one thing about this hotel though- there is pretty much ALWAYS a wedding party going on in the adjoining garden. Probably they are not gonna stop the party or turn down the music if you complain. However, if you are interested, you could have a glimpse of a traditional Turkish wedding party. This is what we did and I'm happy for that experience (our tourguide asked if we could watch).
We were also probably very lucky with the room as it was on the other side of the building, facing the street and it was quiet in there. If you have a 2.30 AM wake up call, then it would be better to bring your earplugs!

Room Tip: The hotel will probably be noisy as the hotel garden is rented out for wedding party. Ask for a room...

They were anything but welcoming. When we called they said there were rooms available, but said nothing about the very loud wedding that was going on in their garden outside the room. When we got there we commented on it and they just smiled and gave us our room - which was right next to the garden. It was a beautiful room, but there was no sleep to be got. The wedding went on until 11:30 PM.

Also, when we asked about local dining they suggested their restaurant and then offered us luke-warm wedding leftovers- charging us 15TL per plate. There was no menu and their actual kitchen was closed.

Lastly, when we checked out we explained how unwelcome we felt and how we thought they should have told us the wedding would go late (we would have gone to another hotel) and that they should have offered us information on the local restaurants instead of giving us scraps. The manager came out (the only English speaker) and got angry with us for trying to rob him. He then over charged our friends who checked out later - making their 150 TL room into a 395 TL room. He also threw a fit when we tried to explain that our friend that left early had already paid 50TL in cash that morning for the room and charged the 2 meals on his card. He had the receipt for the meals but not the 50TL, so that was added to the other's bill as well.

In all, that was the worst hotel I've stayed at primarily because the manager who runs the place is a very rude and bigoted man. I suggest you stay elsewhere- especially closer to Mt. Nemrut which is very much worth the drive!

Travelers are raving about these Adiyaman hotels

We had been travelling Eastern Turkey for a week, and we stopped in Adiyaman to rest before tackling Mount Nemrut. Hotel Antiochos promised comfortable beds where we could get some sleep before heading out early in the morning to catch the sunrise.

But the hotel was also hosting a wedding, and as guests we became mere afterthoughts. We asked for a restaurant recommendation and were told to try the hotel restaurant. But the waiter insisted on giving us a 'set menu' which consisted of luke-warm food salvaged from the hotel buffet. For this we were charged fifteen TL, double the price of comparable meals in the East.

At night the wedding blared the loudest music in the world until well past eleven o'clock. Some of the guests fired guns into the air in celebration. I am a heavy sleeper, and I tossed in my bed for hours, unable to sleep.

When we complained the next morning the hotel manager didn't care. We asked for a discount or an apology. The manager refused. "I want to," he said, "but your price is in the system and we can't change it." I said that he was lying. He smirked like he didn't care that I knew he was lying.

Settling the bill was a trial worthy of a Kafka story. Even though the receptionist told us that breakfast was included in our room rate, we were charged for breakfast. For fifteen minutes we were embroiled in a Byzantine tangle of unexplained charges and mixed-up bills. The manager was rude and stubbron and grew slowly angry with us. "Why are you complaining?" he asked us. "This is a three-star hotel and you're paying a good price."

I told him that I would make our experiences at his hotel public and he seemed to care very little. He didn't care that we couldn't sleep. He didn't care that we were unhappy. He didn't even care that his hotel's reputation would be harmed by his behavior. It was obvious that the hotel management cared only about squeezing as much money from us as possible, and our well-being and enjoyment meant nothing.

The staff were rude, and sneered at us when they found out that we were Americans. When our Turkish friend answered his phone in Turkish, their behavior became markedly more respectful. We got the feeling that as foreigners we were unwelcome--they wanted us just to pay our money and leave.

I have never complained about a hotel in my life--but this hotel and the way we were treated drove me apoplectic.

If you are considering stopping at Hotel Antiochus, don't.

Room Tip: Get a room at another hotel.

Friday evening. A lovely day touring. Arrived at hotel tired needing sleep. Noisy wedding band in progress. Manager Mohammed promised music would stop at 11pm; now well past 11 pm and music still going. Mohammed did not deliver. I would not use this hotel again; nor should tour groups.

The hotel has already gone through lots of improvements thanks to its dynamic manager but a few points definitely need improving :
There are no non-smoking rooms and everybody smokes in the dining room in spite of the non-smoking sign. There were even ashtrays in the room !
The beds are too narrow and the mattress much too springy.
It is very difficult to regulate the temperature of the showers : either too hot or too cold when other guests are having their showers at the same time as you.
Dinner was good but very expensive and the wines were overpriced : besides, no menu was presented to us, the food was listed verbally.
No-one speaks English except the manager.
The best point is that the hotel is at the end of the city of Adiyaman on the way to Nemrud Dag and that it is very easy to park there.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room as some people tend to be noisy in the morning.
