“Far better than i expected”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 4, 2013

my wife and i and some family and friends have just come , back from this hotel, we went away for my fiftieth birthday.
The staff at the reception were so helpful , one of the staff we met on the first day when we arrived, on the Sunday, even though i did n,t see him again till checkout spoke to me using my first name and new my room number with looking at the computer, and most of the staff were the same.
on the day of my birthday the chef made a cake saying happy fiftieth all the waiters and cooks sang happy birthday.
the room was excellent, you could get a bottle of water from the bar at any time ,the food was excellent could not be faulted, the entertainment staff would always stop to chat especially spider
At the welcome meeting all the bosses from different parts of the hotel came to say hello, and even during the week when they passed they would inquire how the holiday was going, and was every thing satisfactory
To go into port el Kantaoui its about 40 minutes walk but barter a taxi for about 3 to 4 dina about £1.40 .

Room Tip: we stayed in room 1070 which is on the same floor as reception we had a pool veiw

We stayed at the bellevue for 1 week in January/February. I had done some research on this and other hotels in the area and decided to go with the Riu group, not to mention the fantastic price we paid through Thomson's. The hotel did not disappoint and absolutely lived up to the images and reviews I had read. A very opulent looking hotel with vast polished tiled floors and Bedouin style draping.
On arrival we were met with a welcome drink, given our keys, towel card and safe key( no charge) Suitcases were brought to the room immediately by staff member.
Both the lobby bar and the bar in the entertainment room were well stocked and staffed by very friendly waiters who were asking if you wanted another drink as soon as your glass began to empty
.Although tipping is one motive for this attentiveness not all guests did and still received the same treatment.
There was an eclectic mix of guests, all nationalities and ages although I would guess that the average age whilst we were there was 60+, a lot of the guests seem to have stayed for a while over the winter season. Many of the guests dressed for dinner in shirts and trousers or smart dresses maybe this was just the age of the guests but to me was reminiscent of holiday camps in the 50's.
The entertainment team put on a " show " every evening and all were very skilled dancers. The visiting entertainers consisted of a drag show, an organist and a Tunisian dance and music troupe.
The room was large and consisted of bedroom with separate bathroom with over bath shower and wall mounted hairdryer similar to ones in swimming bath changing rooms and a separate toilet. There was lots of wardrobe and drawer space. We were in a pool facing room where we could just about see the sea from the balcony.
The restaurant was quite large with 3 hot food stations where the chefs cooked in front of you. There was also a salad and sweet station.
Freshly cooked omelettes with your choice of filling were on offer in the morning and pizza or pasta cooked with your choice of sauce ingredients were also on offer every lunch and dinner time.
The only place we visited was the harbour which is lovely although note that it is surrounded by shops and cafes and that involves running the gauntlet of locals wanting you to eat/ drink /buy.
The walk to the harbour on the beach is about 25 to 30 minutes and lovely on a sunny day although beware of more attempts to sell you scarves, drums, bracelets,or just to be asked for a donation for a locals children. A firm " no thanks" usually works although I would give 10 out of 10 for persistence.
The area outside the hotel is not as nice, quite sparce apart from a couple of fixed price shops where you can browse without being hassled.
All in all the area reminds me of visits to Turkey in the 80's where you almost felt guilty for being on holiday in a place that looks so poverty stricken but that is just my opinion.
I would return to Tunisia and to this hotel for a chill out break.
Very clean, very comfortable, very hospitable.

Room Tip: The pool view rooms on the left hand side of the hotel get the sun more or less all day, the right h...

We stayed as a couple aged 19-22 for 11 nights at this hotel, worst holiday ever, waited 3 hours to get a room & when we got one our lock was broken so had to wait to be fixed, then tried key card & it started smoking so had to wait to be fixed again. We didn't feel safe in that room with the lock being dodgy. Average age in winter months is 70+ and stay for about 4 weeks which we was not made aware of when we booked, same as outside the hotel we was not told the whole country was a rubbish tip, most of the fields look like there trying to grow plastic bags. We didn't feel welcome at this hotel maybe it was our age we couldn't figure it out . As of it being a 4* platinum hotel I'd rate it 2 at best, entertainment during day non existent and at night very poor, dancing all the time with no rhythm & pool execution, food was average same every 2 days not much variety, pool wasn't cleaned for the duration of our stay, drinks selection minimum as cost too much to have a vast amount of choice so I was told, overall a must avoid hotel & country, first and last time to tunisia & maybe with thomson for miss selling us this holiday, book at your own risk but you have been warned.

On arrival at ENFINDHA TUNNISIAN AIRPORT,we were surprised to see a very modern and emmaculate terminal,to very high standards. We had optional extra of having a taxi to and from hotel,we had a very nice driver called SALEM. We arrived at hotel about 30mins drive, were welcomed by reception supervisor HAMED AFLICIA, and a complimentry drink.
Our room was a suite, huge balcony and was very spacious and clean. the hotel has two lifts, so if you have problems walking this is excellent, In main lounge area, everything is decorated arabian style, huge chandelier, and drapes, marble floors and pillars. Seating in this area is made up of arabian sofas, and a very nice area to relax.
Next to this area, is another lounge area and a bar with.two massive terraces to sit out in, when weather is warm,.with waiter service should you require a drink or coffee.waiters are excellent and can not do enough for you, they are very friendly, which gives of a nice atmosphere. A big thank you to HOUCEM, excellent waiter service, and also LAARIBI YASSINE who looked after us in the terrace bar ,main lounge area. There are shops in hotel, hairdressers for the ladies, also a foot spa where you can have your feet and dead skin nibbled away by the GARRAH RUFFA fish very relaxing, also a SHISHSA corner should you wish to partake in the local flavour hubbly bubbly. The main restaurant is based on lower level, and you are welcomed in by a line up of the waiters, greeting you as you enter, all very friendly.the chefs provide a vast array of cuisine, as there are a lot of nationalities staying here, and its nice to see the chefs wearing gloves, when handling all types of food.all friendly and the food is excellent.the only thing that would make this a more pleasurable dinning experience, would be if the tables were not so cramped and near each other,as it would be impossible to have a private conversation,as you are so close to the next table. You help yourself to wine on tap, red, rose, white and cold drinks and at breakfast coffee on the table and you help your self to any other drinks. There is also another lounge area.close to restaurant where you can get fresh cooked pancakes,by a young chef called ADAM,who cooks up delicious treats in front of you on his cooking station always smiling and happy, also fresh cakes and pastries are served at the same time, like afternoon tea. Drinks are served also at this lounge area served by excellent waiters,ABDERRAOULF HAMOUDI, looks after you so special, and at the bar AMEUR BENZID,AND ROUAHI WADII, who make amazing cocktails, and so efficient at their jobs. There is entertainment in both lounge areas in evening,
The animation team, SPYDER, MARMADUKE, EMMA and DORA ,are excellent at doing different shows.especially amazing SPYDER MAN,who has to be seen to be believed. There are also different shows, drag acts.singing and dancing.the lower lounge entertainment is advertised, but not always the main lounge upstairs, so make sure you check whats on and where. whatever it is your bound to enjoy it and have fun,you could be asked to join in with the entertainment ,and it all adds to a great evening,as everyone is so friendly. The pool area overlooks the beach, which has very white sand and a clean beach,There is a large pool and a smaller one for children,to cold to use at this time of year, You need winter clothing as well as summer as it can be quite cold,we went as a couple, had a trip to port el kantaoui a trip to hergula a small village selling their handmade goods very cheap and friendly, situated by a harbour,Taxis from hotel will take you and pick you up agree price before you get in .At this time of the year, there are a lot of people over a certain age that book for four to six weeks at a time, and good luck to them, great food ,excellent staff, entertainment, very lavish surroundings.and weather is a lot better than our own.come to think about it ,cant wait to be over a certain age ourselves.
And finally the matter of tipping, excellent service, deserves rewarding,if your enjoying your holiday, the way you are treated by the staff, goes a long way to making a big part of your holiday special, so if your happy, and having a great time, spread a little happiness around ,and not only do you feel good, you make other people feel good too.

My wife and I have just come back from this hotel and we cannot praise it up enough. Spotlessly clean, food is excellent, and the room was the biggest we have ever had.
The hotel is very quiet with carpeted hallways. The staff just could not do enough for us with nothing too much trouble for them.
Drinks are all good quality, had to try most of them of course, lager as good as any you get, brandy and the red wine superb.
Taxis are at the end of the hotel's driveway. As a guide, 5 dinars will take you to the fantastic Port el Kantaoui just about ten minutes away where there are shops and cafes' and restaurants. Bartering is expected of course unless you are in a "fixed price" shop, however they usually do a little discount.
Walk out of the hotel, turn right then left onto the main highway and there are a good selection of shops to browse. All the shop keepers are of good humoured and will try everything to get you into their shops but don't be put off by this as its great fun for them as well.
Sousse Medina shopping is an eye opener, and is well worth the visit.
The whole holiday experience was just great and highly recommended from us both.

Food - lots of choice, really good from the carvery section with the flag.
Service- staff are really helpful
Rooms - comfy bed, plenty of wardrobe space and a bath. Not sure it was worth paying extra for sea view, (thomsons) it's more like a pool view. If you are on an early flight be prepared for your room not being ready til 2, go for lunch and its ready straight after. On the last day the hotel gave us a room to shower in after 12 o clock check out. Some of the rooms in need of maintenance. We, as a group had 4 rooms. In ours the shower didnt work and toilet kept breaking. Others were fine. One room had an ant problem. It's was reported but nothing happened.
Entertainment - Peter Kay's Phoenix nights springs to mind.
Activities-maybe it's because we went in low season but didnt seem to be that many.
Spa-great value for money. An indoor pool and good gym.
1) with thomsons 'Zulu' . Sounds better than it is. Safari park lacks animals. The food is ok but you are pressured to leave 20 dinars tip (cheek!). The dancers are good but don't get up with them at the end, they ask for money.
2) with hotel (ask for Brum Brum) 'quad biking'. Excellent. We loved it so much we did it twice. The guy who takes you really looks after you. I had never done it before so the first time we did easier tracks but when we went the second time, we covered more challenging routes. Highly recommended!!
3) we got a guide to take us into Sousse, again through 'Brum Brum' at the hotel. Well worth it, he stops anyone pestering you.

Safety- this is no reflection on the hotel but worth mentioning especially for ladies going out alone. My husband while going for a run near the harbour (about 5pm) witnessed two ladies being mugged. Stole their necklaces from around their necks. So becareful!
