“Great holiday experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

There was nothing to be unhappy about our 10 day holiday. Flights.transfers, hotel and staff were excellent.Tunisia is a great country to visit people very friendly and the level of service at the hotel was excellent. Hotel facilities were as promised and the guy who organised the twice daily boules competitions was am absolute laugh. He made our holiday go with a great cheerfull bang. Would recommend this hotel especially in September the weather was superb. Well done Thomsons once again.

Myself (21) and my sister (18) travelled to this hotel in Tunisia (for the first time) for a relaxing week away in September. By the end of the week we had very few complaints and pretty much the only issues we had were with situations outside of the hotel.

Firstly, the airport procedures are a shambles. Once you get off of your plane and get to passport control, you are required to fill out an immigration card. When we arrived, we were left waiting for almost an hour with no cards left and the airport staff’s response to this was “that’s not my problem lady". Overall it took nearly 2 hours just to get through passport control because of their horrendous organization.

The transfer to the hotel was an easy 25 minute journey. Our room wasn’t ready for about an hour and a half once we arrived which was a pain. The lobby area had wifi and we were given cocktails on arrival so not all bad! We paid for a superior room which we loved. It was very big, decorated well and cleaned every day.
Our only small issue with the room was the hairdryer. It only works for a couple of minutes at a time and then you have to wait a few more minutes before it starts working again. So if you are two females with a lot of hair to dry - take your own!

Tipping:
We thought it was a bit of a liberty to tip waiters etc when we have already paid for all inclusive but when you learn how little they earn vs how hard they work - it's a bit of a cheek not to tip. We tipped our waiter Neji and he went out of his way to look after us through the week and called himself our Tunisian brother which was funny. He saved us tables, covered them in flower petals and remembered our favourite drinks etc. The same goes for the barmen - they appreciate leaving even just a 1 dinar coin for them.
Whilst on the topic of money, it’s easiest to change your money at reception. I recommend changing small amounts as you need it because you must change it back to sterling before leaving the country and you cannot change back coins - only notes.

Food/Drink:
We are slightly fussy eaters and weren't too keen on the food at the hotel (mainly the dinners). There wasn't particularly anything wrong with it, it just wasn't our cup of tea. Breakfast and lunch were fine though (paninis were made at the pool bar as another lunch option). I didn't feel as though there were nearly enough options for the amount of people that the hotel caters for. We were dying for some fresh fruit or a salad but even the apples looked old and sad and we didn't see a decent bowl of lettuce or salad the entire week.
We weren’t too impressed with the alcohol choices but it did the trick. Often we bought red bull from the on site shop to have something different to mix vodka with after some disappointing cocktails. On occasions the bars seemed to be a little understaffed but queues were no longer than a few minutes – just be patient.

Pools/Beach:
The pools were lovely. Don't sit around the main pool if you want a bit of quiet as that is where most of the activities take place. Also there are plenty of sunbeds to go around. The beach was very nice, white sand and clear sea. The walk really isn't as long as people make it out to be. There is also security on the beach which is a nice touch.

Entertainment:
The entertainment team made this holiday for me and my sister. These guys work incredibly hard from early morning and they don't leave until after midnight. They go out of their way to try and include you in the activities. After leaving the hotel and experiencing how men treat you when you are just walking down the street, the entertainment team are gentlemen compared! We had a great laugh with them all week and really enjoyed their company. Some people take them too seriously though - if you don't want to be bothered by them, just say hi and bye and they won't hassle you. Willy, Tito, Mamado, Chito etc are all lovely lads.

However, a tip for younger girls like us - do not leave the hotel unless you know exactly where you are going (and even then, don't expect much) and without telling someone. We felt so uncomfortable with how we were treated outside of the hotel we basically went straight back. We tried to go out for dinner but got lost and we were followed and approached by a lot of men who were extremely vulgar and intimidating and it was not a good experience at all. When we finally got back to the hotel and told the entertainers what happened, they were genuinely concerned for us and offered to escort us places should we wish to leave the hotel again which was lovely.

Overall we had a very nice, relaxing holiday. The weather was much better than we expected for September, although it did rain a couple of times in the late afternoon and evening. The hotel in itself is gorgeous. The staff work really hard morning till night and they make a lot of effort to get to know you and this personal touch really made our holiday. Thanks entertainment team!

Room Tip: Junior suite with garden view is huge and very quiet in the evenings, worth the upgrade!

Stayed here for a couple of weeks in September 2014. Just me and the wife.
Remember Port El Kantaoui is a manufactured resort just for the tourists. Been there quite a few years but there's no history to the place, no old town or village. Quite a few shops and restaurants but little else.
The Royal Kenz is a four star hotel and is situated just a short taxi ride from Sousse.
I have to say the whole experience was quite nice. Flew from Doncaster and with no time difference was one of the easiest flights ever.
Checking in was a relatively simple experience, although our room was not ready until a couple of hours after we had arrived. The bar and restaurant were still available to us so no real damage done.
A big hotel set back from the beach. This means the beach is accessed by walking along a private thoroughfare some 200 - 300 yards long. Doing this more than once a day would be impractical. The facilities at the beach are limited. There is a bar where you get a drink and snacks. The snack aspect is extremely limited but okay if you just want a hot or cold filled roll. You can, if you wish, walk back to the main hotel if you want to eat in the restaurant, but in the heat, not really an option for most.
The hotel generally is clean and tidy. The pool area gets crowded. There are plenty of sun beds but unless you do like every-one else and get up a daft o'clock to reserve them with your towels, forget it. Good job we prefer the beach anyway.
Wifi is available in the reception area and the adjoining top terrace only, but it worked fine and was useful for keeping in touch with family back home via WhatsApp etc. Don't expect to use it on the beach for music etc stored on the cloud.
The waiters, cleaners and others all work damn hard and are friendly enough. There are comments on here about chasing tips. Whether you do tip or not, you get the same treatment. Purely a matter of choice. Just remember a lot of these people don't have very much so a tip is very welcome.
The restaurant does get a bit busy at times and parts of it, especially where the food is displayed would have benefitted from being a bit bigger.
The entertainment varied from excellent to downright dreadful. Excellent, the Kenyan acrobats and another dance troupe, whose name escapes me. The other end of the scale, the entertainment staff getting guests onto the stage and making fools of them. Not entertaining, and judging by the numbers of the audience leaving that area, a commonly held view.
The worst feature of the holiday was the none segregation of smokers in the outside dining area. It was impossible to eat outside without being subjected to cigarette smoke from other tables. We have stayed at other hotels with different areas set aside for smokers and none smokers.
You have to pay extra to use the safe which is a bit of penny pinching I thought.
There is an ATM inside the hotel but you don't need that much cash in an all inclusive environment. Make sure you don't draw too much cash as you can only change it back at the airport at a less than favourable rate plus, it is a another queue you can do without. They are also very strict about their closed currency. You will have it taken from you if you still have any on you when you pass through security airside.
I know a lot of this sounds somewhat negative but it was overall a quite enjoyable holiday that could have been made a whole lot better by very little effort from the hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool would be right above the terrace where the entertainment can go on till m...

Just back from yet another great two weeks at the Kenz. Bit of a problem with the room at first but sorted next day. Staff all lovely as always. The hotel was VERY busy which resulted in long queues at the bars, lack of sunbeds and lack of seats inside and out after dinner. Many people up at daft o'clock reserving sunbeds then not using them for most of the day these selfish people are to be found all over not just at the KENZ.
The food was good but a bit repetitive. The snack bar good at lunchtime with waiter service. The Italian restaurant good in the evening pay extra for wine. Didn't use the Indian or Steakhouse.
Some entertainment good some not so, entertainment team work hard always chatty but never pushy.
Grounds beautiful the gardeners really work hard shame some people are too lazy to get an ashtray and just leave their fag buts and rubbish wherever they are.
I always find a smile, please and thank you go a long way and cannot fault the service.
Many thanks to all at the KENZ see you all again very soon.

Room Tip: First floor pool facing

Into our second week at this wonderful hotel, feeling like a prince with his princess.Never have I known as much care and attention from ALL the staff, chambermaibs up to front desk.
Sure look hard enough and there are one or two "worn patches" but it would be unfair to criticise this VERY busy hotel.
Will consider returning very soon.
More reviews at end of holiday, back to the sun!

Room Tip: Many rooms overlook very busy noisy terrace and pools area.Front of the hotel is guieter though a bu...
