“Quiet time..........”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

Returned from Vinnci 9 Dec 2012 after a weeks stay. I have been to this lovely resort 4 times and have stayed in different hotels. The Vinnci was one of the biggest hotels I have stayed in, however occupancy at this time was very very quiet, only one other couple (english) and one single gentleman, there were however a few tunisian couples. We were given a fantastic room, with sea view, all very clean. Have one critisim of room, only one power point in cupboard above stove......... Indoor pool was the biggest I have been to. No outside terrace as it was being redone, which was disappointing but understand being a quiet period for them, refurb needs to be done. Lots of decorating and tiding being done ( I presume for new season) and the main dinning hall was also being redone and did look fantastic. I would like to return to Vinnci next year in busy season as there are lots of facilities including gym, beauty salon, hairdressers and shops. Must point out though there are all concessions which you will need to pay for separately.
Couldnt fault staff, however due to low occupancy the buffet style which I have been used to in other hotels was definately lacking. We only had a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 2 puds, and that was all week. But knowing Port El Kantaoui found a great resturant right in the marina - La Daurade, would defo recommend.
Port El Kantaoui is a great resort. Beach is great, marina is fab and its easy to get a cab and explore.
BE AWARE SECURITY AT AIRPORT WHEN LEAVING WILL ASK IF YOU HAVE ANY TUNISIAN CURRENCY! we did because when I was there in January 2012 I could spend it once through passport control, however this time security guard asked for money to let us through which worked out at £10 TOTAL CON!!!!!!!!!!! I think I need to go work for them haha

Arrived to hotel 22 September.

If you are prepared to live in Hotel rotten from bottom to top you may like this one.

Check in: it took 1 hour to get a room suitable for living
1st one - garbage on the carpet in living area of the appartement.
2nd room - no lights at all.
3d room dirty but big and with a nice view

Next day around 12 am room was "cleaned" - they changed towels in bathroom and made the bed, swiped floor - so room became liveable.

Reception - staff is rudе and very unprofessional with bad english and very bad attitude.

Restaurant - always queue, to get food - dirty plates next to food very difficult to find cutlery.

Beach is about 700 meters away from hotel to get to the beach you will have to walk along side open sewerage - without gas mask it is very hard task,
sewerage flowing directly in to the water on the Hotels beach.

Sweaming pool at the hotel - about 20 sunbeds around pool - for 250-300 guests
Emergency fire stairs closed because they are simply rotten. Steps on the stairs maid of metal rusted to big holes so it is not safe to use those.
Instead of stair replacement hotel chose to simply close fire escapes.
It is a death trap in case of fire.

I decided to change hotel after first night in most terrible 4 star hotel I had ever seen in my life. Hotel most definitely not deserve stars on its walls.

RUN from this Hotel as fast you can!!!

Before going to Tunisia everyone described the Hotels there as being amongst the most luxurious and lavish in the world, however this was not the case with the Vincci Resort in Port El Kantaoui …

The curtains in our room were filthy, including the shower curtains in the bathroom, all of which are in desperate need of being cleaned. The door to our balcony did not close properly, and whilst this did not bother me at first, it was allowing for more noise to come in from outside, and I would be woken up in the middle of the night by the noise of cars passing by and honking their horns (quite a common occurrence in Tunisia). The chambermaids made our beds and changed our towels almost everyday – meaning that we would sometimes go back and find that they had only done one OR the other …

The TV stations you get are mostly Arabic or French and you only get one channel in English (MBC2) and one in Italian (Italia Uno). It is also worth mentioning that there was only one electricity socket in the room, and the TV was connected to it … so make sure you take an extension with you!!

The breakfast and dinner were ok I guess, but while in Tunisia we spent a night in another 4 star hotel (during our Sahara Explorer tour with TTS, which I highly recommend!!) and even here we could immediately see the difference, because this hotel was immaculate and the food was on a whole different level. Another thing which bothered us at the Vincci resort was that there would never be any cutlery on the table, and you would always have to ask one of the waiters for them. The meat and cheese slicer which was operated by a waiter at first, also stopped working the last few days, and everybody had to cut their own slices of meat and cheese by hand from then onwards …

Having said all of this, I would not like to end my review on a bad note, as the Vincci resort itself is not a bad place to stay at – it is in a prime location just 5 mins walk from the port, and 5-10 mins by taxi from the centre of Sousse. It’s also very close to the beach, which I hear is very nice. The staff in the hotel is also amongst the most friendly I’ve ever met (all except for the guy that works in the shisha bar) and when my girlfriend twisted her ankle most of them even expressed their concern. So in short, if you want a cheap holiday and you’re not too bothered with these things then I’d say go for it, however if you’re looking for a luxury holiday by the pool I suggest going elsewhere as this hotel definitely does not merit 4 stars – in fact I suspect that the 4th star was acquired (like everything else in Tunisia) by haggling. Enjoy your holiday!!! :)

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a room overlooking the beach and not the street ...

My overall experience of the hotel and holiday was positive. I had a great holiday and really loved Tunisia. Good service from the reception. No problems. Wifi in the reception/lobby area which is excellent plus. I would note that there are not many british guests, mainly european/russian. The hotel has a very good location with short walks to the beach, bars, port and shops. Beach was quite small, clean but crowded. Water was lovely and warm and had daily volleyball games which was fun. Lots of other beach/water sports for a small charge. Rooms were clean but could do with an upgrade as quite tired. Only 1 plug socket for the whole room though (i would take an extension lead next time!!). The room was fit for purpose and was a good base. Bathroom was again fine and shower was lovely and hot once it ran for a minute or two. All inclusive bar offered soft (serve yourself), alcohol and 2lt bottled water (very handy). The food was quite tasty but the selection disappointing and the all inc buffet restaurant a bit chaotic. We only had a few meals there and decided then to eat out. As its so cheap this was definitely the right decision. Pools were nice and clean, with games and entertainment in the outdoor pool. The 'animator' team were good fun but would probably only suit the children and young adults. We went on one organised excursion - the Sahara desert trip- well worth the money but 2 very long days and a lot of time sat on a coach. But if you can put up with that the activities were great and suit a range of interests. Visiting a few towns, the salt lakes, camel ride in the desert, pony carriage ride, visit the star wars film set, land cruiser sand dune trip (for the adrenaline junkie!!) plus much more... The port in kantaoui is lovely, well worth a trip out on a catermaran (albatross can be recommended) where they stop out in the med so you can have a swim. The port offers plenty of shops(lots of bargains to have and haggle lots) and restaurants are good too. There is a pirate ship you can go out on and a small submarine also but we ran out of time!! There is an irish bar just outside the port area, which many British tourists go, they show premier league football. The only thing that makes the bar remotely Irish is the green tops the staff wear. Don't expect any Guinness!! With regard to the Arab/Tunisian male attention - be pleasant and just say no thanks and they will leave you alone. We struck up conversation with a couple of people and they believe that the British are the most friendly tourists. As 2 female friends we got a lot of male attention but in no way did I feel worried or threatened. I wouldnt recommend hiring a car. The tunisian road sense/behaviour is quite scary!! A lot of 'road rage'!! With regard to spending money we only spent £300 for the whole week for 2 people and that included all the meals out, nights out at bars, excursions, activities and shopping.

There is plenty to do, lots to see and glorious weather for an overall excellent holiday. If you can look past the tired bedrooms and go out for some meals then the vincci is a great holiday.
