“Nice hotel but please be aware you will be robbed senseless by every Tunisian!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2010

This was a good lastminute deal - packed our bags and went the next day. First time in Tunisia so didnt know what to expect. Upon arrival in the airport, there were men waiting to take our cases for money, and women outside the toilet wanting money for you to use toilet roll! Thought nothing of it and was looking forward to getting to the hotel as we were a bit tired after a night of travelling. Hotel was nicely presented and we were relieved to see it after some of the others we went past on transfer! Two large pool areas, in-hotel shops and restaurants. We were half board so if you like eggs thats the main part of breakfast, and chocolate pancakes! other than that it was the same all week.. and be aware of the Germans as they are everywhere and so snotty. Tea time was similar - you knew every day what there would be as it was basically the same food. Exchange of money in the hotel - if you dont ask for a reciept they short change you every time so make sure you ask for one. Same in the bar the waiters would pocket the money and type you in as all inclusive! The men in Tunisia are disgusting and will shout anything at women so be aware and taxis will offer ridiculous prices so make sure you barter with everything you want. As for the maids - they walk in and out of your room whenever they want made sure our cases were always locked, free air conditioning which was good.. only thing to be aware of is the on-site nightclub and other facing the hotel they are hardcore and very very noisy right through the night, and punters on the street offering you drugs by the minutes! Make sure to go to Sousse there are plenty of shops there too.. Had enough after a few days but it was a nice break after all..

I really dont know what people are moaning about with this hotel, it was very clean and staff i found very friendly, yes i agree not alot of english but if you want to spend time with alot of english stay at home!! I have stayed in other hotels in tunisia and this one was one of the best, there was a good choice of food, the downside was paying for sunbeds if you were half board and entertainment was a bit sparse so a bit boring for teenagers other than that had a great time and would go back

Upon arrival found hotel to be adequate, night staff helpful porters and reception, managed to get in the dining room prior to its closing (Half board) waiting staff friendly and helpful.

However things started to go wrong on tuesday with electronic key not working the door handle , after sending porters to try the key, and master key they decided that the lock was not working , they had to climb in over the balcony, and called in a maintenance guy who completely dismantled the lock and reset the lock.

We assumed that all was now in order , however on our last night after dinner we returned to the room to encounter the same problem, again we went through the same procedure, porters keys , master key and finally the maintenance man, this time he was only a part time worker, again climbing over the balcony to open from the inside, this time he did not have the knowledge to reset the lock, so he said that one of us should stay in the room whilst the other went out !!!!, obviously this is not acceptable in a foreign country especially when you go away to be with your partner.

so we had to saty in on our last night , no drinks offered!!

The next morning they moved us to another room , as technician could not repair the lock, after wasting our last night in we were told that we would have to pay 30 dinars for a couple of hours.

Upon trying to speak to the manager , we were kept being told that he would be in shortly but never arrived, upon asking to make a formal complaint we were told that they did not have "Livres des reclaimations" (Complaints book) which they said they didnt have even though a legal requirement!! we were given a plain piece of A4 paper (not even letterheaded) we refused to do so as not a legal document , and i am sure it would end up in the bin, after us persistantly asking for the book he shrugged his shoulders pointed at the paper and walked away.......

With this attitude and problems we would never reccomend this Hotel to any friends or family, as the reception staff have no care about their guests , go to this Hotel at your Peril........

I think if you call a hotel "Grand", "Royal" or "Palace" you are setting yourself up for a fall and unfortunately that is what happened here. We have been many times to Tunisia so we knew what to expect - demote all hotels by 2 stars and you won't go far wrong. Having said that we have stayed in some great places here - this wasn't one of them.

The main problem with this place was lack of attention to detail - public areas were never that clean and neither was our room. Reception staff were appalling, staff in general were uninterested unless you tipped them (we went half board). The exception was our dining room waiter whom I tipped 10 dinars on our first night and thus was assured of good service throughout which we got. I did the same with the room cleaners but our room never got above OK in the cleanliness standards so that was a waste of £5!

Food was uninspired, which was a shame as our previous visits had always been positive on the food front. This was very surprising given that the main clientele was French, with Germans and Dutch and a very small sprinkling of Brits. Everyone there seemed to smoke like chimneys and unlike here it was allowed both inside and out.

The hotel is meant to be owned or part-owned by the sister of the President of Tunisia and I sneaked a peek into the "private" rooms which were truly fantastic. If it is owned by her I would urge her to get a grip on management there as the hotel is being let down by its current lot.

Finally, our room was very noisy with "music" thumping through the floor and in through the windows until around 2.30pm every night - it was not a place to relax when you went to bed! Pools however were beautifully clean and as the weather was good, none of this spoiled our holiday but we were ready to leave and would never go back to this hotel.

We found this hotel noisy from their overnight club which closes at 8.00am. There is also a lot of noise from a nightclub at an adjacent hotel which the tourist people should deal with. The swimming pools were the cleanest we have encountered for some time. We were on B/B basis & the breakfast was the usual cold counter but there was hot food & also omelettes etc cooked to order. Adequate if not exciting! the staff varied from very friendly & helpful to the opposite. This we found to be the norm in Tunisia- not the most friendly people we have met in our travels. Likewise the food-good snack lunches but disappointing dinners!

Restaurant staff and night porter very friendly and helpful. However, some of the reception staff were quite hostile at times and we realised a few days before departure that a few (one staff in particular) was keeping at least 1/2 dinars each time we exchanged some money. If staying at this hotel request a receipt every time when changing money and check the amount you have been given. Room was looking on to pool and aqua park - nice sunset. Cleaners were very friendly and provided clean towels every day. Good mattresses. Went halfboard - good selection for breakfast and buffet in evening varied - some nights were really good. Excellent location to the beach and marina. Evening entertainment in hotel was ok nothing spectacular. Loved location and room including bathroom - plenty of hot water. Disappointed with service of reception staff - experienced some of them as complacent, rude and in a rush to get rid of you - but don't let this put you off.
