“Tired, scruffy, poor selection of food but what a location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

My wife and I have visited Tunisia 9 times and found that this hotel was ideally located right next to the Port El Kantoui Marina with a few steps from the rear doors to the restaurants and shops of the lovely marina and night life.

Equally, a few steps from the rear doors took us down steps to the pool with plenty of available sun beds and a 5 minute walk onto the clan and sandy beach which lacked sun beds unless you are prepered to get up at 6am to beat the russians and use the old towel reservation ploy. However each afternoon there is always a free bed right on the water's edge.

The beach side retaurant serves excellent food but the pool bar lacks selection and drinks.

All bars (except All Inclusive) serve bottled beer - however see the young waiter (always eager to please and justify his tip) will feth a cool glass of drahght from the A I Bar.

The rooms were average, large and we finally got a sea/pool view from the balcony which got the sunrise and was a suntrap untl about 12 mid-day - we refused two other rooms and settled for a 6th floor room with a double bed - perfect (once they repaired the shower head).

The minus points. The food, very basic and repetative but tasty and hot. Desserts and breakfasts were the worse I have had in Tunisia - only cooked meal for brekie was ommeletes and no toaster!!! Very disappojting but we lost weight!!!!

Entertainment - no animation team - the hotel lost it's 5 star rateing as they did away with the A. T - leaving two Mike and Prince who did their best. No pool entertainment except aqua erobics (of sorts). We did have 2 outside acts - a fakir (which we had seen before) two female / male X/dressing act which was funny but mimied and quite honestly i have seen a lot better in the canaries - there was a folklore night but we had another evening sitting at the marina watching the world go by and feeding the cats.

IMPORTANT: - In 2006 I left a welsh red dragon flag on a priate ship - it was still there last weeek. This time I took a bigger one and it was placed on the aft mast of the biggest pirate ship - if you see it please take a picture so I know if it needs replacing and I get to return (I have promised the crew a bottle of JD for flying the welsh flag (I haven't told them it will be minatures).

I can't think of anything else, except if your going and want to know more - email be at dafudd@gmail.com - I have pics of the last 6 years from P El K to the Sahara.

Take Tunisia as you find it, no frills, some tummy bugs if your not careful but kind and genuine people who look after ferel cats (f you like cats your OK with moi!! or should that me miow)

Enjoy the photos

PS - we didn't do the fairground rides viewed from the hotel - too old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS- this hotel has a good disco and nightclub - we heard it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On another plus factor - this time we steered away from the usual "T" and "T.C." agents and went with lowcostholidays.com - cheaper, no hassle and no real problems who arranged everything from the hotel, flights and transfers and got us back as well using Thomson fights with 20kg + 5kg bagage - we will defiinately use them again - but not the Hannibal.............. sad

Room Tip: Use the spar for a fantastic Hamman Scrub, mud soak and massage - well worth it

“Fantasic Holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2012

My husband, our 12 year old daughter and I stayed here for 2 weeks from the 8th August until the 23rd August.
I was nervous about this hotel after reading some of the reviews but as soon as we arrived I forgot all about the bad reviews. The hotel is lovely, we were shown to our room which had obviously just been redone, it was absolutley gorgeous! New carpets, lot of room and a huge balcony.
The pool area was quiet whilst we were there, no music playing, no children running around and screaming. The location of the hotel is fantastic took us 10 minutes to walk into Port El Kantaoui. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful, breakfast was eggs, sausages, tomatoes, bread, cold meats, croissants, choclate pancakes, yogurts and fruit, dinner was different every night we were there which we had no complaints about.
Beach was lovely and the weather was fantastic!
All in all we had a fantastic holiday and would defiantley go back again.

“beautiful, but sadly neglected hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

We have just returned from a 9-day stay at this hotel. We were previously there in 2008 and loved the serenity and location - we sat peacefully by the pool. This time, the change in the hotel is certainly not for the better.
The hotel and pool area was totally overrun by very young children - many crying and shrieking. It was no longer a pleasant experience to sit by the pool. Dinner in the main restaurant was like being in a railway station - people darting everywhere and, if you were trying to get back to your table with hot food, you had to dodge the children running amok. Many of the dishes on display were almost empty, and you had to ask the staff to replenish them; most of the dishes available were spicy. Breakfast was no better. The rooms have seen better days, and are in need of total refurbishment. The air-conditioning was very noisy. On arrival we had no TV or minibar. We had to ask for these to be installed - twice in fact, over two days. Some of the lights in the room were not working, and it was very dim in the evening/night.

Although a negative review, the staff were extremely friendly and have told us that, next year, there will be no children under the age of 16. We would like to give this hotel another chance, and will probably go back there again in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a refurbished room on the sunny-side of the gardens.

“Ignore the bad reviews- book it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2012 via mobile

A last minute deal and worth every penny. Ignore the bad reviews this place was heaven on earth for a quiet relaxing holiday. Sea is warm as bath water- check out the clams and crabs as you walk into the sea. All rooms have view over the gardens (illuminated at night) and sea. Large bath perfect for a drink with your honey before dinner. Breakfast was great (Muslim country so don't expect bacon and sausages). Dinners are fine - buffet style so lots of choice. It's not great, but show me a half board buffet that is! It's included in the price of the holiday, fine for a few days and if interspersed with dinners in the marina/ square it's perfect. Dinner out costs 50 dinar for 2 so £20 ish and is very good. Pool and pool bar is great. Air con in rooms is required and very efficient and staff are very friendly.

If you want a drink in the evening- bar prices are expensive, but we got round this by purchasing 1l vodka and 1l rum at duty free on the way out and coke from the shop round the corner. Do not wait till you get out there- you can't buy alcohol in the supermarkets. we had a few drInks in the room while the after sun soaked in, dinner and then drinks and gossip on the balcony later. As I said- heaven.

I heartily recommend the grilled chicken from the pool restaurant at lunch- best I've tasted!

Book it!

“Oh Dear!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2012

Our third visit to this hotel and my how its changed. It seems that the hotel has changed hands and to make a quick buck has been opened up to the local populus (a bit like Butlins I believe). Instead of chilled relaxed afternoons round the pool garden, we were subjected to loud "drum & bass" music from about 3pm til 8pm or later but this was from "adults". The local teenagers who came in were generally much better behaved than average and seemed keen to find out about us and our opinions of their country. (They also spoke very good english) It's a wonder how the staff coped with all the extra people who didn't seem to care in what state they left the pool area or the restaurant. Weddings and other functions are now catered for in the refurbished villa and this is "off limits" to guests whilst these are in progress. We did meet a lovely couple Christine & Mark, whose company we really enjoyed and I think we helped each other to stay sane. They were also on their 3rd visit and went back for the same reasons that we did. We heard that things are supposed to be changing next year and the hotel will be catering for adults. I hope that this is correct but just in case we will also be checking reviews before booking for next year. A great pity as we thought we had found a real gem.
