“Nice Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

Just returned ( 20th Sept 13 ) from the Riviera after spending an extremely enjoyable week. I read many reviews before we picked it and went with an open mind. On arrival (1.30am) we were greeted with a warm welcome and quickly allocated a room for myself, partner and young daughter. and was able to settle down quite quickly after a long trip. It is worth a mention that we were travelling with Thomas Cook and everything went smoothly, including the transfers, taking just 25 minutes from the airport.
The room allocated (227) was nicely presented and clean. Air con was on and working well, although i have had cooler elsewhere it was good enough and kept the room comfortable. it was kept clean and tidy by the house cleaning team and our cleaner (i think her name was Hiate or something phonetically similar) was fantastic, courteous and pleasant at all times. we were kept topped up large bottles of water daily placed in our fridge. TV worked well and a couple of English channel's are available.
What can i say about the food ? Well it was tasty and varied catering for all tastes. There was always something that we all liked and the snack bar by the pool was brilliant, Our daughter loved it and ate there every afternoon. I'm not a fussy eater but my daughter is and she enjoyed trying different things and broadened her menu extensively. One has to remember this is not a five star and some people expected a lot more from the buffet, i only heard 1 or 2 people complain, the majority were more than happy with the food and service from the staff.
Our experience with all the staff was that they were all amazing and they could not be faultered in any way. The Animation team tried hard, and a special thank you must be mentioned to Amel who ran the kids club, she was amazing with all the children and always had a smile on her face.
The beach and beach house were also excellent and we spent quite a nice couple of days there. No long waits for drinks or food.
Only 1 partially negative comment was that queuing for drinks at the main bar was a pain and you could be several minutes waiting to be served as there was only one bar staff on most of the time.. As this was the case customers often went in pairs and collected two drinks each sometimes more, this only increased the waiting time so i can see why it was common practice. The answer would be to increase bar staff on demand.
The surrounding area and Marina were lovely and a shoppers paradise, although haggling was order of the day, ( if you stay your ground you can get really good deal's ). The fixed price shops were also a good starting ground to get an idea of what things are worth before heading off to haggle.
We thought the location was very good and taxi's are cheep, just 4-5 dinar to Marina (about £2)
All in all we enjoyed ourselves immensely and will be returning soon.
If you want a relaxing holiday then this is the place if you want late nights and loud music lots of bars serving into early hours then try Spain
These are only our thoughts and all are based on our personal experience, would i recommend it? yes!!

Just spent 2 weeks in this hotel!!! its rated as a 4 star but i think 3 stars are missing. on a whole the room was kept clean everyday, but the towels provided are disgustingly smelly. Food in hotel is nice and plenty of variety but drinking out of plastic beakers is not my idea of 4 star service. The beach is lovely with plenty of sunbeds. however there not much in the way of padding left in the mats 4 the sun loungers. Now 4 the entertainment......................Which is the same man playing an organ every night, his singing is awful and he does not no all the words so will make up his own!! (He was dreadful) and the younger entertainment team are not much better im affraid!! Music is played all day everyday around the pool very loudly and quite honestly really really bad!! There is absolutely nothing 2 do outside this hotel either and once u have been 2 1 shop quit frankly u have been 2 them all!

The waiting staff are however really lovely and very attentive!! shame the same cannot be said 4 the bar staff!!

on a whole it was ok but i would not go back 2 this hotel even 4 a free trip!

Had two weeks at this hotel and on the whole it was okay. Just needs some TLC. Our room was kept very clean but be advised to take your own towels as the ones provided had a musty smell and did not dry you properly. The food was amazing, very tasty with lots of variety. At least twice a week someone came in to check the quality of the food which was reassuring. The staff were excellent very polite and respectfull and a special mention must go to Hosni our waiter in the morning and lunchtime. He was wonderful and seemed to know what everyone's drink was and within seconds of going in the restaurant the drinks were on the table. On the negative side the pool area was ok but the music was so loud that you could not relax, or read or listen to your own music. When asked to turn it down they were very apologetic but moments later it was turned up again. The entertainment was very poor. The animation team were really not very good. If you were blonde and about eighteen then you stood a chance of being entertained. The young men seemed more interested in chatting up the young girls than turning their attention to making the entertainment more entertaining. I would give the them 2 out of ten. The resort itself is very sparse with not a lot going on. The marina is worth a visit though. All in all we had a good time though.

Room Tip: Do not choose a room overlooking the disco or outside bar area as music is very loud

My wife and I have just returned from a 7 night stay at this hotel and whilst the positives outweigh the negatives, in our opinion it could be improved with a little fine tuning. I will start by saying the holiday through Thomas Cook was value for the money paid. The Hotel itself the room (4003) was spacious with a full bathroom with a shower over the bath and hot water was plentiful there was a separate toilet. The accommodation was always kept clean towels changed daily and bedding at least 3 times in the week we were there. Our main issue with the room was that the air conditioning did not keep the room cool enough also the towels were taken from the room around 08.30 each day and on occasions not replaced until mid afternoon therefore you had no towels to dry yourself with if you wished wash before lunch. That brings me to the food across the week it was more than adequate and well prepared, we always found something to eat although the choice of main courses was somewhat similar. My only complaint and as I am a pasta lover this is purely on a personal basis I found the sauces even on the made to order pasta were somewhat bland but again some people may like it like that way like they say you can't please everybody. The soups, salads and deserts were good infact too good unless my wife has shrunk my trousers. There are 2 a-la-carte Restaurants a Tunisian and Italian where you can eat one evening in each during a weeks stay the food was enjoyable in both it was well prepared and served with a good choice of drinks the red wine was especially nice. This now leads me onto the drinks, this is by far the most concern for the majority of people I met. A hotel of this size has only one main bar, the main barman or should I say the only proper barman Eddie was a character how he managed to remember the orders for peoples' drinks the way he did is beyond belief but even he could do nothing about the length of time it took to be served
of an evening, at peak times it was not uncommon although it was unacceptable to have to wait around 15 minutes in a warm area without air-con for drinks that sometimes were even served in plastic beakers the type you got a drink of water in at school in the 1960s I repeat the word Unacceptable this needs looking at by the Hotel Management. This brings me onto the Hotel staff whilst it would be unfair to pick out any one particular person as whoever member of staff I came into contact with were very pleasant and polite people having mentioned Eddie the barman I would also mention Nabil a waiter in the main restaurant who worked like a trojan and always had a ready smile. In all my opinion of this hotel is Average to Good but it would take only a small tweak here and there to make it Very Good and whilst as an All Inclusive Venue it does not match upto those in the Caribbean it is certainly on a par with hotels I have stayed at in Egypt and a lot better than those I have stayed at in Europe and the Canaries. Would I return to Port El Kantaoui area of Tunisia? Yes I would, to the Riviera Hotel? maybe I would but I would need to know by researching on Tripadvisor if my concerns have been addressed. This is my honest opinion of the Riviera Hotel, I could nitpick and look for faults like a number of people I met there did or I could voice the opinions of others I met the who have holidayed there year in and year out and could see nothing wrong with the hotel although the one overriding comment seemed to be the Hotel was not as good as it had been several years ago.

We have had two weeks at riviera. My husband and myself both enjoyed the food . There was always something different being cooked at night .Waitress in the morning and lunchtime was lovely but she didnt work at night .Some times we had to ask for a table to be cleared .one night we had to ask for the blue tablecloth to be changed it was all stained ,One of the young lads was rude to a couple of elderly ladies when there was no need. Our maid was fantastic Layla was very friendly and helpful and kept our room spotless. The bar at night was dissapointing you had to wait 20 mins some nights to be served drinks in plastic glasses. Some times [most times] you could not taste the vodka. We met some really lovely people and most of staff were nice.

Room Tip: high floor
