“If you have kids.. Don't go!!!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

I read the reviews just like everyone else, But thought i would find out for myself before making any judgements.... On the first night we got there at 2am. I was travelling with my three children. When my son got into bed, there was someone else's biscuit in his bed, which really unimpressed me.. The next day sitting by the pool bar. In my glass was someone else's chewing gum. I was then told by the staff, they are very busy and only rinse the glasses. They have NO time to wash them properly. This was not good enough and i found it disgusting. When i went to queue for pancakes for my three children, i was told i could only have one. i had to try and explain i had three children, but they would not listen. it was meant to be All inclusive. This was not the case.. In the evening, i found it very hard to feed my two younger children, they lived on plain pasta and ketchup. The Thomas Cook rep was no where to be found, the staff on reception were very unhelpful. They would not turn the air conditioning on, even though it was very hot in the 40's....I found the hotel dirty and very very basic. No way is it 4 star, more like 2 star.. Not much to do for small children. all i heard from my kids was can we go home. They were bored..No way would i ever go back to this Hotel.. Lots of Russians, and i have nothing against anyone, but the rudeness from them with pushing in and pushing my children. i found i had to really bite my tongue all week.....I was very very disapointed by this Hotel. If Thomas Cook recommend it. Run for your life. Waste of money... never again

very disapointed with the hotel , although the staff are very friendly , the food is at best average , with the bulk on offer being aimed at the majority guests , the Russians , if you like boiled eggs , chopped up hot dogs and cabbage you are onto a winner , thats when the hoards from the East leave any thing in there wake , you can almost smell the burning rubber from the soles of there fake trainers when the doors open for meals , I would at best say 50% of the time there is an offering worth having , you could of course eat at the beach snack bar , but that again is over run by grabbing, gready Soviets who seem to fail to understand simple things like standing in line or manners , again the food on offer is not the best , and what ever you do , if you visit the toilets in the beach area , make sure you have your wellies on , as it aint the cleanest place youve ever been, I think the management team have also made a huge mistake by mixing up the temperatures of the wine and the water , in this case the pool water , which is almost at freezing point while the wine is at a lovely temperature for a dip but way to warm to be any good for drinking , maybe a simple oversight ! Staying with the drinks , never really cold ,and not a great supply of ice on offer , this is small but really , given the temperature , important part of ensuring guest comfort , The tunisian night and the Italian night are a treat , ....... if you have had your taste buds removed , DONT GO , on the italian night , ordered lamb , told there was none left , would have to have beef , eventually served chicken??? had to share what was laughingly described as penna cotta as there was "only one left" , To the animation team , wow ! never came across as many annoying people in one place before , over loud , over annoying , and over paid even if they are on one dinar a week , NOT EVERYONE IS DEAF !!! music on full bounce and again aimed mostly at our eastern block friends , and as we are talking about music , the Disco is beyond description , a relic from the 70s , bit like the people who were fitting on the dance floor ,Our room was in a poor state , however others were wonderfull , renivation on going , Ive no doubt we would have been moved if we had complained. We in the main chose this hotel on the strength of the reviews on Trip Advisor , well I hope this evens things up , It is far from "wonderfull" the food is not "great" the animation team are "dreadfull" , I hope you all come to a rounded decision on your destination , but do not expect any great shakes from this resort hotel.

Have just returned from the Abou must say we were pleasantly surprised after some reviews. The staff were exceptionally friendly couldn't do enough for you.Room 271 was lovely and very quiet never heard a sound the whole time we were there,no drunks no arguments from others no loud televisions, in fact you would of thought we were the only ones in the hotel.Food was excellent and great choice no matter how fussy you are, something for everyone. We thoroughly enjoyed the Italian a la carte brilliant standard of cuisine. Didn't sit by the pool has sometimes the Animation team could have their music too loud when entertaining guests. The beach was excellent plenty of sunbeds and while we were there they were putting more sunshades up,which is very welcome has it gets very hot.Beware the cool wind that sometimes blows has it still burns. The only down side were the Russian guests so rude and arrogant to staff and other guests PLEASE get rid of them next year has alot of guests will not return.Don't expect to go out walking in the evening has there isn't alot to do in the area unless you go to the marina which is either a good 25minute walk or cheaper to get a taxi [yellow ones] outside the gates takes 5 mins and costs 5 dinar but they all appreciate a tip.Would go back to this Hotel but don't know about Tunisia it has a long way to go yet especially on the rubbish situation outside of hotel area.

Room Tip: rooms on 2nd floor left side of hotel have had some refurb done.

This beautiful hotel has everything and it's facilities are all neatly, nearby attached and therefore easily reached! It also enjoys an enviable position right on the beach and at no extra cost provides free sunbed's, mattresses and towels all brought to you by a friendly member of staff. All this is available around the pool too, without any hassle whatsoever! Each and everyone of the friendly staff all provide an excellent service. And the various venues, the Pool Bar, Beach Snack, the a la carte restaurant's and dining room etc! All serve different styles of food which is plentiful and there is always something available for everyone. You can eat and drink as much or as little as you wish of anything available at no extra cost! Along with a Night Club/Disco where a Tunisian Folklore night, a Belly Dancer and 'the sword swallowing bed of nails men' were remarkably, all thrown in with the price of your holiday too!The value is second to none and once again the generous and kind Tunisian culture and hearts and minds shine through!

My perfect paradise in tunisia has turned into my heartbreak. Ive Been a guest at this hotel for 7 years- had excellent fun holidays excellent entertainment excellent food! HOWEVER clientelle have changed since new management have taken over and ambience is defiantly not as smooth! Staff are still lovely as ever- even though they are rudely spoken to or demanded at? I PERSONALLY as an old returning guest found this soo up setting to witness.I still had a wonderful restful 7 nts and i must say new management are very visable! There are new barbeque sections in beach bar an restaurant an food was good! I did feel though at times vultures were present when food were being served?? On arrival reception staff were very friendly an efficient and my rooms were reserved for me as i requested an late room checkout was arranged-cannot fault new management-very professional! There are lovely comfy new sunloungers an umberellas and pool still sparkling- by the pool attendents! Rooms have not changed - maybe beds as very hard this year??Aminationtion team were very dissapointing- MOUKI -SHAGGIE & CO. very much needed back in this hotel! Beach was as special as always so cosy an convienient just like the ABOU SOFFIANNE used to be xx Will I return.......... not with that new clientelle ......so sorry xx

Room Tip: room no, 50-56 are poolside/sea view easy access to all areas! interconecting rooms too if more than...

After all the "bad" reviews I had read about this hotel before travelling I was a bit sceptical about actually travelling, but as soon as I arrived in reception my doubts faded rapidly. We arrived at 21.20 and were informed by the the very helpful receptionist, to make our way to the restaurant as dinner would stop at 21.30. After enjoying a good selection of food, we returned to reception and registered, then shown to our room, which was clean and well presented, my only comment would be that the carpeting throughout the corridors on the second floor looked a little tired and in need of a good hoovering/cleaning!

During the rest of our stay, we could not fault the food, bar service, efforts of the animation team and above all the staff who were all so friendly! The bar staff in particular had to put up with an awful lot of ignorant people, who seemed to find it very hard to say please and thank you, and for once these were not British!

All in all a good holiday, and I think the owners are trying improve the hotel on an on-going basis. If you want a good standard all-inclusive holiday at a reasonable price, then you should give the Abou Sofiane a try!

Room Tip: Rooms on the north side are quieter and catch the last of the sun later in the day.
