“Cheap and cheerful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

We stayed here for a week in early July before the summer rush. we payed £20 each upgrade for a sea view and what we saw of other rooms it was well worth it. Room was on the top floor, large and well appointed. Cleaned very well everyday.
Breakfast was adequate but not exciting. Lunch and dinner were better and the a la carte was very good.
Fasel in the American bar was brilliant, the rest of the staff were very attentive and your glass was never empty at meal times.
Adequate amount of sun beds around the pool and on the beach.
Enjoyed the break but wouldn't rush back to Tunisia.

Room Tip: Pay upgrade for sea view, far better rooms.

“Overall a lovely hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

We had a winter break here in December and were very pleased with our choice of hotel. The staff are very friendly, room service and cleaning excellent. The location is great, taxis are cheap and plentiful, as is the local bus service(dolmus). It is a 5 minute walk into the Port, where you can always pass a pleasant hour or two watching the world go by!
We were very surprised by the quality and variety of the food on offer (we stayed all inclusive) and there is always something to please everyone. At breakfast however, the coffee leaves a lot to be desired! The animation team worked very hard and throughout the day there are lots of activities if you want to join in.
Our only complaint was the lack of heating in the main bar and reception area - make sure you have a wrap or jacket for the evenings. The main bar also allows smoking which put us off at times.

Room Tip: In the winter you are better choosing a garden view room as the sea view rooms get virtually no sun...

“Fabulous hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013

I stayed here for the second time with a friend in January 2013 and we had a wonderful time. Even though it is a very quiet time of year the entertainment guys really tried to make sure we enjoyed our stay and had things to do! The hotel is spotlessly clean and our room was made up beautifully everyday by the friendly maid. All the staff in the bars, the restaurant, the reception were really friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The food was great with lots of choice for even the pickiest eaters! The resort is an excellent base to enjoy Tunisia from, the port being only a 5 minute walk from the hotel and full of lovely cafes and restaurants to sit in and watch the world go by. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel and I shall certainly be visiting again in the summer!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Stayed here for one week in the new year....hotel is lovely and i can imagine it being an amazing stay during the peak season...although during the new year there wasnt much on and it was very very quiet...i went with my disabled daughter and although the hotel caters for that im afraid the resort doesnt....i had to push the wheelchair in the road which wasnt very saqfe to say the leasr....as the paths are cobbled and look very pretty they are not ok for wheelchairs..

“A lovely hotel but real problems”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Stayed for a week from 13 January having been to this hotel 10+ times over the years. Building is still impressive and refurbishment of rooms is making much needed improvements. Majority of staff are very good indeed - only exception being the ones in the Blue Bar who just couldnt be bothered. Fisal in the American bar and Mekes in the main restaurant were outstanding - nothing too much trouble and most friendly. Hotel is spotlessly clean bedroom cleaned to a high standard with fresh sheets and towels daily. Unfortunately the poor parts far outweighed the strong points. There were only 63 people in the hotel so it felt empty and desolate. The main lobby and bar area had no heating and it was impossible to sit there, the American Bar was always cosy but this was not opened until 6 pm! The breakfast room was also very cold so we were eating meals with our coats on - spent much of our time in the bedroom to keep warm. I did not expect fantastic weather in January but did feel hotel had the ability to at least keep its guests warm! The food was just awful, everyone we spoke to complained about it - the same dishes came out at every meal very poor choice and hot food was only ever like warm. We ate at the harbour restaurants a few times or we would have been very hungry indeed. Even worse is the building work for the new hotel being constructed next door. Travel agent advised us of the noise before we went & in fairness this did not bother us over much, but we were looking out of our window not at the sea view we had paid for but at a 5 storey building site with concrete dust blowing constantly and making it impossible to sit outside when there was a bright day. Entertainment was none existant except for 2 evenings of really bad Kareoke and awful guitarist one evening. Daytime entertainment happened just once when 4 board games were put in reception!!! I am really sad that this once excellent hotel is now so very poor, rated as 4 star it barely reaches 3 star standard. And finally - over the weekend the hotel population doubled when local people came in. Noisy, rude with no concept of queuing for service and picking food up from the salad buffet with their hands - this really was the final straw. We have had wonderful holidays in this hotel but will never ever go back again. A complete waste of money. Best advice I can give is look somewhere else in Port el Kantaoui but give Marhaba Palace a miss.

Room Tip: Avoid sea view rooms overlooking building site
