“Great Hotel for open minded travellers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Just come back from the Rosa Beach after a one week stay (30th March-6th April). Travelled as a couple with Thomas Cook. After a one hour coach transfer from Enfidha Airport we arrived at the Rosa Beach in Skanes directly opposite Monastir airport. UK flights only fly into Endfida, think this is due to the Tunisian Government. On Arrival we were greeted with a welcome drink and a warm welcome to the hotel by the reception staff and the animation team.
Once paperwork completed we were directed to our room. Room was large, spacious and well maintained. We had a king size bed with plenty of space for the both of us. Rooms had air con. fridge, balcony with pool and sea view and a safe (15 dinar a week).

All inclusive hotel- Food was plentiful and with a huge variety with a wide range of bread. meat, pasta, pizza, local dishes, fish, and plenty of salad and fruit. Desserts are also plentiful with a wide range of choice from cakes. fruit , ice cream and local pastries. My other half is a very fussy eater and he always found something to eat. When travelling to a all inclusive hotel in a foreign country you are not going to find fish and chips like some people while we were there were expecting. The food while we were there was hot, well flavoured and lots of it for every tastebud.
Waiter service in the restaurant was excellent.. As stated in previous reviews you DO NOT need to tip at every meal or opportunity. We tipped 3 dinar ( £1.30) at the first meal and tipped at the end the week. I said to out waiter if you look after us, we will look after you and this worked. Do not keep tipping as it will become expected of you. There is no need to tip vast quantities of money.

Main Lobby Bar- Open most of the day until midnight. The drinks are a little on the small smalls in the glasses but just ask for a bigger glass. The size of the glasses is due to health and safety.
The alcohol and soft drinks are local branded which is very drinkable, The waiters do put local coke into branded bottles but this is not coca cola. Quanites of alcohol are plenty with a arange of cocktails, beer, and local spirts included on all inclusive. Soft drinks and tea and coffee aswell.
Bar men and waiter service good. One specific bar man was quite rude at the begining of the week but by end was ok. Again, do not tip heavely. Only tip where you think is due. Waiter service is included. Just ask, it's their job to serve you. One problem in the bar is some times not enough seating but we found a seat every evening.
Pool side bar open frm 10am till 6pm, we found no problems, waiter service to your sun bed and the beach. Array of virgin cocktails were on a table in the shade which was a nice touch.

Pool- At this time of year cold but i still went in. Sunbeds, same as every hotel in the world , guests do put towels on sunbeds very early i.e 6am on the day we left guests were out. Towels should not be placed out till after 7am but people were doing this. There is a towel man, but as stated in previous reviews you do not need to bribe him as we went out at 10am and still managed to find a bed somewhere.

Beach- Good private beach, only used by the hotel guests. Small and sandy, not a place if you wish to go deep sea swimming as you have to walk along way out till it gets deep. Very good for children. Please note there are touts on the beach selling trips, cigarettes, shells etc. Do not buy the cigarettes as they are fake.

Touts: Please also notes there are 3-4 guys around the hotel selling trips on quad bikes and boats promising to see the dolphins. There are no dolphins in Tunisia and the photos are 5 years old. They have been issues reported to the rep and the Rosa Beach or Thomas Cook staff have nothing to do with them. These guys are seen avoiding the management and do pray on guests at the start of your holiday. They asked us 5 times to go on trips. Just say no and will be ok.

Location: This hotel as stated in the brochure is remote but has excellent transport links. Bus, Train and taxis just outside the hotel. Do NOT use the men in the horse and carriage as they will take you to his uncles carpet shop. Always get a price before you get in a taxi. Buses are very cheap and a experience.

Thomas Cook Rep Marina-

Marina was excellent. She is always around to help out in any way. The trips we went on through Thomas cook were well worth it. Marina is friendly and very approachable. She is a asset to the company and very good at her job. Gave us a lot of good information about going out and about in Tunisia explaining everything.

Trips-

We went on the Medina Ramble which is worth it as it is a guided tour to the Medina in Sousse. This is the main market area within the old town in Sousse. Two local Thomas Cook reps go with you and it is great. You get no hassle or problems, they help you with your shopping and get you the best price. If you were to go on your own, you would most likely be harassed.
The second trip we went on was the reps cabaret. This was an all inclusive evening with food, drink and entertainment. Well worth it.

Spa- My partner has a massage and sauna during our stay. Very good value for money and worth it. The sauna is in the hotel next door which is empty but don't let this put you off. The service was excellent.

Overall-

Nice relaxing holiday, well worth the price, is a 4 star hotel with a lot of good services. You need to be open minded to visit Tunisia and experience the culture which is a lot different from the UK. The hotel does an excellent job to look after its guests.

Absolutely awful stay at the rosa beach hotel! The travel agent offered me Egypt or Tunisia and I foolishly chose Tunisia! Never again!
The staff were rude and were very aggressive unless you tipped them at every meal,
The food was shocking - we are not fussy eaters, but we lived off chocolate ice cream and chips!
The soft drinks were constantly flat, in the whole week we were there we didn't get a single fizzy drink between the 2 of us,
The pool was freezing, salt water. We managed to brave it up to our knees and got straight back out,
The sun bed availability was very poor - I went out at 7am every morning and also every bed was taken,
The spa was terrible - I was taken to the hotel next door (which had closed down) for a seaweed wrap, but in fact I was put in a tiled room on my own and the spa lady put a hot tap on so it would look more like a sauna! I was left alone for 45 mins until I had mud applied only on my arms and legs!
There's nothing around the hotel so boredom soon kicks in,
Entertainment was awful - it consisted of 5 20 something boys doing about 3 Tunisian "traditional dance" and preying on the young girls. They were very rude to you if you didn't allow them to touch you,
The bath towels and sun bed towels were grubby, ripped and in desperate need of replacing,
We had a room that was directly above the kitchen so often had the stench of the food and constant clattering of plates, as well as been able to hear/see the staff when they came out for a smoke. We did ask if we could be moved but were told we would have to wait for 3 days until it was possible to do so.

The only good thing about the hotel was that it was clean!

Every time we've been away, we have always had a lovely time and been in lovely hotels but this one was shocking!!!!

Fortunately, we had to laugh at how awful the holiday was and was thankful we were only staying for 7 nights - best thing about the holiday was the airport!!

I'm also glad we don't have children - as they'd of been bored to tears.

The holiday itself was dirt cheap.....now we know why.

Will never go back to that hotel or Tunisia.

Just got back from brilliant 2 weeks at rosa beach, rooms are excellant, try and book a pool/sea view room if you can, if with thomas cook as we were, should be nice and sunny in the pm, so if windy, makes a good sheltered retreat. Now a couple of points to note, occasional niff in reception, tipping small amounts does help, but why not, the odd quid to yor favourite drinks or food waiters is not a great hardship and they are all brilliant with smiles and can not do enough for you. Now big thankyou to BILLOBABBA, pool bar and MONIER (dustin hoffman ) salim and of coarse MALIC who brought us drinks on the beach & by the pool for 2 weeks, BRILLIANT and the ANIMATION TEAM who are absolutly supurb, SMILLY, BEBO,MIDO, ENZO etc made us laugh every day and night, very tallanted people,(top teeth bottom teeth), sorry, in house joke, HOTEL MANAGEMENT, please note you are very lucky to have these guys, please look after them. Anyway could go on and on but check out the price of this holiday, its a cracking price for what you get, oh by the way food very good and drinks very good wih scwepps tonic water

Just come back (27th March – 3rd April 2013) from “Sentido Rosa Beach Thalasso & Spa” Tunisia after going to celebrate my wife’s birthday with Thomas Cook (All Inclusive).

Overall, the hotel was very nice, clean and comfortable and would recommend it for couples who just want to relax for no more than 7 nights. This is a hotel for couples, not to take children to as there really is not much to do. There is nothing to do outside of the hotel, no shops, bars or restaurants anywhere local unless you get a bus or taxi to Sousse (9 Dinar) or Monastir (10 Dinar).

DETAILED REVIEW - If you are interested in more than sitting\lying around the pool area\beech and want to know a bit more detail about the hotel, what to do and my personal opinions carry on reading:….

RESTARUNT\FOOD – We had no complaints about the food, there was always something to our taste with a lots of choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner and if you are a vegetarian there are theme lots of lovely vegetable dishes, salad mixes and lovely desserts.

TO HOTEL|THOMAS COOK – The restaurant staff were friendly and attentive, not the same could be said for all of the waiters. We found that the people who tipped at the beginning of their stay had waiters who were very polite; nothing was too much trouble and had the same table near the front of the restaurant. For the rest you would go down to sit down on empty table only to be told they were reserved, tables reserved with drinks already poured or with extra decorations. You then sat with the rest of the guests where you may good an attentive waiter or one giving poor service because they are keeping an eye on a particular favoured table.

The waiters expect tips for doing their normal work and not for exceptional service; restaurant supervisors\managers are allowing this to continue with their knowledge.

RECEPTION– As it was lunchtime when we arrived we were shown to the restaurant to have lunch, after which we filled in a form and given the keys to our room.

ROOMS – We were very happy with our spacious, very nice, clean and comfortable room which were cleaned everyday.

TO HOTEL|THOMAS COOK – I normally always leave a tip as cleaners are the unsung hero’s but could not justify it this time as even though the room always looked clean and tidy, the sheets were not changed once during our stay, in fact one day my wife got into a spotless bed to find a tissue still in the bed from the previous night. Towels were replaced but again they smelt clean but had marks of various colour still on them. Also as the hotel does not use vacuum cleaners but squeegee\towel type brushes, even though the floors get cleaned any dust\hair\food just got moved around the room.

ROOM TIP – We had on booking requested a quite room away from the hustle\bustle and ended up with one of the few rooms looking over a waste area as opposed to a poolside view room which gives you a better view of the sea.

We were still happy because all the rooms do not have any sound insulations, sound carries in the hotel and it can get very noisy, especially from the reception area in the evenings.

There is a safe in the room, too small for large items so I always left the room with 1 suitcase locked but even so my trainers disappeared. Did not make a fuss as was looking at buying a new pair anyway.

RECEPTION STAFF – The reception staffs were always willing to help but did not always live up to what they are trying to be.

It was my wife’s birthday and a cake arrived in the hotel room when we retired for the night (22:30) which made me laugh as not only was it a day early but it was the other half of the cake that was presented to a lesbian couple who were on the table next to us celebrating their first anniversary and you could still make out the word anniversary on the cake…well it’s the thought that counts!

TO HOTEL|THOMAS COOK – Went to hotel reception a couple of times to convert money, they never seemed to have any “Dinars”, very unhelpful and only advise was to get money from gift shop who will give you a slightly less conversion rate and do not provide you with a receipt which you would need to convert any unused cash at the airport.

Used gym, found socket off wall with live wires hanging out. This was reported to hotel reception whose urgency was such that half an hour later nobody had attended. Informed Marina, Thomas Cook rep who got the matter sorted out quickly.

GYM- The hotel has a Gym!!

TO HOTEL|THOMAS COOK – There is no point in providing facilities if they are not maintained or cleaned. Apart from the live wire as above, the weight lifting equipment was broken with metal cables trailing across the floor which the maintenance people tied up (equipment not repaired) to make safe, equipment covered in dust\finger marks and with cups of fizzy drinks on floor with ants have a feast. No cleaners or person came once to check whilst I was there.

HOTEL GENERAL – The hotel advertises it as a fully renovated 4-star hotel. During our 7 night stay the men’s toilet (did not use the women’s) urinals were blocked so instead of fixing them they put out of order above them (3 out of 4) and resorted to burning incense in the toilets to block out the smell.

Again for the 7 nights, there were no paper towels and as hand dryers were not fitted only option was to use toilet tissue. A very simple thing to resolve but inactions resulting in bringing the hotel reputation down.

Furniture\seating covered in very visible stains in reception and restaurant and this at the start of the season.

TO HOTEL|THOMAS COOK – It would appear that everybody does ONLY the job they have been told to do as I found out if you asked them for something they are not responsible for they either grunt, point at somebody else or nod and then ignore the request as it is not their responsibility.

This was evident from the room cleaning, gym, restaurant, and it could easily be improved by staff training and supervisors actually doing the job they are getting paid for but are not doing, but again if they only do their small area of responsibility things will not change.

If Thomas Cook wants to promote this hotel as an All Inclusive, they then need to deal with the inconsistent service, tipping mentality, and run training sessions with hotel management with staff on what is expected.

If I am going all inclusive with Thomas Cook what I do not need to read from previous guests is that “We spent £100 in tips, but it was well worth it for the fantastic service we received”

If the hotel could change the way the staff think and operate (no expense involved) and improving its cleaning ethos, then instead of only thinking that it was a top class hotel, it would start living up to what it is striving to be.

WIFI – The hotels has free WIFI but coverage is poor and its hit and miss depending where you sit in the lobby area.

Lobby Bar & Staff – The lobby bar open is always very busy, especially after dinner and during the shows. Drinks were always served in small glasses\measures which meant even more visits to the already busy bar. Larger was o.k. Never had a fizzy coca cola drink, always flat, appears coca-cola bottles are getting refilled and customers think wow coca-cola when it’s their local fizzy drink being served.

TO HOTEL|THOMAS COOK – The hot drinks machine in the lobby area never delivered consistent drinks, chocolate for the kids was either not working or watered down (may as well drink coloured water) and when selection ran our not replenished for hours sometimes days, a simple task but because not done let standard of quality down.

ENTERTAINMENT – This is not really a hotel for kids and what facilities there are run down. Saying that the Animation Team worked hard during the day and the evenings and need to be congratulated on their efforts.

SUN BEDS \ POOL - There is a beautiful pool and a small sandy beach with sunbeds. During busy periods there will be a lack of sun beds due to the amount of guest staying there and as usual sun beds were reserved with towels from very early in the morning.

BEECH – There is a small sandy beech with sunbeds but if you are like me who like to explore there is not much to do outside the hotel. If you go to the right, after fen minutes walk you hit the overwhelming stench from what looks like a landfill\sewage outlet area, therefore if you want to go for a walk go towards the left.

LOCATION – We chose this hotel as we just wanted to relax and chill. If you want something more be aware that the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, there is nothing to do outside of the hotel. There are no shops, bars or restaurants anywhere local.

If you want to go to Sousse or Monistair then for shopping, markets etc then there are always taxis available as well as a bus stop outside the hotel.

WHAT ELSE TO DO – Outside the hotel or on the beech there are horse and carts who will take you to the Sahline. The driver will always stop outside his favoured shops to earn commission so make it clear that you want to do your own browsing. Takes about 35 mins to get there and with a couple hours browsing\shopping with no hassle visiting this local town is a nice morning out for the sum of 10 Dinars.

WHAT ELSE TO DO – It is a long trip with early starts on both days on a coach so may not be suitable for young children otherwise highly recommended is the 2 day (overnight stay) Sahara excursion which costs about £95 each when you take into account the trip, camel\jeep\horse & cart excursions and drinks, food\hotel accommodation is included.

You get a chance to visit amphitheatre where gladiators made, an hour on camel in Sahara, watching sunset go down..awesome!! In the morning see the sun rise and later on go on a jeep safari to visit set of Star Wars 1.

THOMAS COOK REP – Our Thomas cook rep, Marina was always available and willing to help and assist and provide information so I suppose she deserves an EXCELLENT as she would say.

CONCLUSION - The overall stay at Rosa Beach was very pleasant and I would go there again for no longer than 7 days if I wanted a relaxing break without worrying what to do.

It is more of a couple’s hotel and not recommend for children.

Started to worry after driving through Tunisia as to what the hotel would be like! However the Rosa Beach was amazing, all very clean - although quite often a very bad smell in the lobby and round other parts of the hotel - lovely food, we also had a really nice waiter who went out of his way for us!

Although you are in the middle of nowhere, that was what we liked! Bit of a pain to get a sun lounger though, you had to throw a towel on it At 7am, and by 8-8.30 they were all gone!

The one thing that really disappointed us and to warn you all about - there's men who wander round the hotel and sell you trips on quad bikes, camels and boats, although they aren't 'dodgy' they aren't anything to do with the hotel ( you often see them hiding from the managers! ) they work through the shop and to get to the places you have to leave the hotel and get on a horrible bus to travel, we had a real problem getting our money back from him until our rep intervened! He then approached us everyday of the holiday and harassed us, as do the others! The hotel warn you about them and not to go with them yet let them in the hotel?! Really disappointing!

Loved everything else of the hotel - despite the bad wi fi - rooms were lovely and clean and big and the animation team were very friendly, waiter at the pool bar was very rude though and only seems to smile and talk to you if he finds you attractive!

I would suggest this hotel, but please be wary of those guys, they spot out the new people and then follow you round and are very pushy!

My husband and I went to rosa beach for my 40th birthday,17/03/13-
24/03/13.It was a last minute booking. We had not been to Tunisia before so we took advice from the Thomas cook staff.
On arrival we were greeted with a drink and taken to a room where we filled in a form and were given our all Inc wrist bands. This took around 15mins.We were then shown to our room which was spotless and had a lovely sea view,Chef had also made me a gorgeous birthday cake.
We had no complaints about the food, there was always something to our taste,I have read in other reviews that the food was cold ,but we didn't have that problem at all.
The staff were all very polite and nothing was to much trouble. My advice would be to tip well at the beginning of your stay, you will then have the same table in the restaurant all of your stay and be waited on by the same waiter, they all work very hard and always with a smile. The same applies to the bar staff,if you tip you find that your drinks get stronger. If you are not prepared to tip I would suggest you stick to drinking larger,as the spirits are very weak.
Our room was cleaned daily to a very good standard, towels and bedding were changed every day.
The animation team are very loud and energetic,I suggest you take headphones unless you want to be woken up while you are sun bathing, they are always trying to involve you in sports and games, which is very good if you are not on holiday to be lazy and recharge your batteries.
I would say this is more of a couples hotel rather than somewhere to take children as there really is not much to do,and as the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, there is nothing to do outside of the hotel. There are no shops, bars or restaurants anywhere local, you need to get a bus or taxi to Sousse.
The beach is not brilliant, and there is a very distinct smell coming from a nearby landfill.
However the positives outweighed the negatives and we had a fabulous week.We spent £100 in tips, but it was well worth it for the fantastic service we received.
We would return, but only for a week, any longer and I think we would have been bored.Rosa beach is ideal for a lazy week in the sun.
My advice would be take plenty of £1 coins and tip, tip, tip.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the reception area,it can get very noisy in the evening. Also the lifts a...
