Why Thomas cook represent this hotel is beyond belief.
The only thing this hotel has got going for it is Gorgeous weather, a great animation team who worked extremely hard and has a fantastic beach.
The hotel is miles away from anywhere so you can’t even go for a walk to get away.
When we arrived, the hotel porter just pushed past us and grab our cases, even though we said we could take them ourselves, they want tipping, and this is just the start, the staff want tipping for everything. We had to wait an hour before getting our room. Which was Ok, but not too good with 4 children, who had been awake all night! Room basic, but clean and the cleaner was a little old man who was fantastic, very sweet and good at his job. Clean towels everyday and clean sheets every other.
We were given a table in the restaurant which was supposed to be our table for the stay, the next day we went and someone else was sat at it, we were moved. The same day at dinner time we returned to the table, and there was no cutlery, I asked the waiter for some and he said it was not our table, we explained that the other waiter had allocated this table, he was very rude and refused us any cutlery, we had to search the restaurant and get our own, finally the next day, a new waiter gave us a different table, which we kept for the rest of the stay. The waiters at our new table were very good, and friendly.
The FOOD – Rubbish is all I can say. The restaurant is disgusting, flies everywhere !. and birds flying around. While eating you were constantly on edge wondering if a fly would land on your food, or weather a bird would poo on it.
Breakfast the flies were worse at this time, constantly having to bat them off you, really annoying, lots of food to choose from but totally horrid. Raw eggs, dried beans, sausage that had never been a sausage, that kind of thing. Lunch time terrible food, the man who makes omelettes fresh does a fantastic job, but ask for them well done or you get them raw ! The chips were not so good, we ended up ordering chicken nuggets for lunch and dinner as the kids would eat nothing else. Dinner was just the same food as at lunchtime, but re-warmed. There was a man cooking fresh spicy food, which was really nice, but after a few days that became repetitive. I survived off omelettes and chips. Desserts were not bad, and as much ice-cream as you wanted, which was good for the kids.
There were a lot of queues at the restaurant, I can imagine when the hotel is fully open this would get much worse and you would spend most of your time queuing for food.
Now the snack bars !. The one on the beach was absolutely disgusting; I would not let the children eat anything from there. This is the only place you could get ice-cream from outside. When we went in, you could not see the ice-cream scoop handle for flies. The place was riddled in them, all the food had flies crawling all over it. I know that flies are a problem in this country, but I’m sure something could have been done about them. The snack bar near the relaxation pool was a bit better, not quite as many flies and the man did make the food fresh, my son said the burgers and pizzas were nice. I tried a cheese and salad sandwich which was in clingfilm and that was nice.
The pancake maker arrived at 12, they were very nice, but another problem with flies, people were moaning that he was dirty, but the only dirt I could see was from tourists throwing sugar and chocolate sauce everywhere, he did try and clean up, and I’m sure there would have not been as many flies here if it wasn’t for the tourists mess.
In the Thomas cook brochure it states lots of activities, there was nothing for teenagers at all. Apart from canoes. I have a 14 year old son and he was too old for the kids club and he was not allowed to join in any of the pool games. Not allowed to do Archery or any of the other activities that this hotel offers. If he hadn’t found some friends he would have been totally bored at this hotel.
The hotel grounds are very nice, and if it wasn’t for the tourists who constantly throw litter on the floor instead of using the bins it would have been clean. Staff are going around all day picking up litter after tourists. Although they do not clean underneath the sunbeds !
The pools are not fantastically clean either, although I did see on several mornings people cleaning them. My son and I got a bad infection from using the pool, this started 3 days into the holiday and is still continuing 4 days after returning home, (2 weeks holiday), it was reported but the hotel staff would not accept responsibility, we were charged £40 (£20 each) for the call out and approx. £20 for medication. This came out of our spending money.
The water slides are only open from 10am – 12 and then 3pm – 5pm, which was ok for us, but I can imagine in the summer months, this would not be long enough, we were lucky no queues, but in the summer 3 slides would not be adequate for the amount of people using this hotel. Also we had a problem with the staff, sometimes they would let our 7 and 9 year old on the slides and sometimes they said they were too small. Quite often the man looking after the slides fell asleep, which was great for the boys as they could get on.
The hotel is too big for the amount of people and facilities.
The Animation team are fab, without them this hotel would close down. They started well before 10am and did not finish until after 11pm, even on breaks you would find them re-hearsing. My children absolutely loved Lala, she danced with them, played with them and took them to kids club etc. And best of all they did not expect tips, even though they were very poorly paid, for the amount of work they do. The ones around the pool played good games, for the adults, but they did become annoying after a few days as they were constantly pushing people in the water and throwing your towels and clothes in, same thing every day. There was a relaxation pool, so if you weren’t happy with this you could still use a different pool.
Kids disco was the same everyday, but the kids loved it ! The evening entertainment was not bad, but If we didn’t have kids it would have been rubbish to be honest, you can not expect much more when the animation team have been on the go all day long, and are expected to perfom lots of different routines, songs etc.
One evening my son was violently sick and it lasted until 6am the next morning, I went to the bar at 7.15am and asked for a bottle of water, the man refused, he said nothing until 8am. I explained that he had been sick all night and was de-hydrating, he was very abrupt and said nothing until 8am.
I would not go back to this hotel, and I would not recommend this to anyone.
Thomas cook kids club was rubbish, only open 3 days out of 7.
The shops were rubbish, well over priced and the staff would not leave you alone, they dragged my daughter (age 6) in one day for a dress, trying to make her try it on. She loved the dress and we did have to go back and buy it another day for about £60 less than what they originally wanted.
The hotel is rated as a 3 star and I think that is being very generous.
We saved for years for this holiday and it was rubbish.
