3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013 via mobile

Having just returned from this hotel and read previous reviews - I think people need to realise this is a poorer country and so standards are more basic than at home.
On arrival we were surprised at how over crowded the place was, which showed in the queues/scramble for food and the fight to get a sun lounger ( we had to stay up till early hours or get up before 6am to get one!!!)
The bedrooms are set out on different levels which we struggled with having a baby in a pram; going up and down stairs as there are no lifts :0/ Our room was good sized and cleaned every day, a very basic 3 star standard but who goes spends much time in the bedroom on holiday!
Food choice is very limited as they have a lot of different nationality guests to cater for. But we always found something to have.
Entertainment crew are fantastic, really going out of their way to get everyone involved.
My top tips - don't go on the beach, five min walk up the beach is a rubbish tip! Book the pirate ship adventure with the captain who walks round the poolside, fantastic trip and well worth the money ( just be weary of the real monkey on board!)
All in all the holiday is what you make of it, would I go back? Yes but only for 7-10 days which would be enough.

Just returned from a 1 week stay with my hubby & son at the Houda golf and beach club and must say i was very disappointed with the holiday on the whole. From the outside the hotel looks quite appealling & the reception area is quite nice and cleaned all day by the hard working cleaners in that area but that is really all the positives i could say about the place. The room we were allocated (301) was very basic and not cleaned to a decent standard on our arrival , with dead insects etc on the floor and the room in general smelling quite musty. There was a very dangerous looking wall light with exposed cables that was only held by a very loose screw and some of the other lights didn't work at all, poor air conditioning & very annoying maids who would just burst into the room without knocking every morning ! Also, the hotel has no lift and as we were on the 3rd floor, it became very tiring when returning to our room after spending the day in 45c heat .
The food was very poor as well with virtually no choice for the kids and the rest was not very appealing either. But if you did want to eat anything you definitely have to share it with the FLIES!!!!!!! some parts of the hotel are swarming with the damn things. I know it's not possible to keep them all at bay but the amount here is just ridiculous !! We seen 1 fly zapper in the restaurant and that was it .Spent two days of my holiday with a bad stomach and think it was probably caused by the amount of flies crawling about the food ,honestly you will not believe the amount of them !!
If you are going to spend the day at the water slides you better arm yourself with some serious fly swatting devices!!!. We found it totally impossible to relax due to the little pests constantly buzzing around our ears and crawling on us, maybe it's not so bad at a cooler time of year but i would think the summer months are a constant nightmare. Main pool didn't have as many but there was more than enough to annoy us when we spent time there.Couple of plus notes are that the pools themselves were good & the waiting / bar staff were excellent and worked tirelessly . But as another reviewer pointed out , watch out for some of the Animation boys , they are a bit lecherous towards some of the younger girls ! Can't really comment on anything outside the hotel as we never left the complex during our stay.
In the whole though , it could be a decent hotel if it sorts the fly problem & with a few tweaks here and there , but at the moment i think it's got a bit of work to do !

TIP : take lots and lots of fly killer with you , you'll need it !!!!

Room Tip: Pool view rooms could be a bit noisy as this is where most of the entertainment events take place ne...

Here's a honest account of my 2 weeks I spent with my three kids, toilet in my room wouldn't flush twice reported and there maintenance man wedged a piece of card from a toilet roll to make it flush only to be woken up early hours of the morn with it flooding my room. Air conditioning didn't work properly so we all baked at night, self serve drink dispensers were fiddled to dribble out your cheap cola and lemonade which you would have to que for so gave up and bought my own from the shop. Confronted bar manager about them not having any soft drinks at amphitheatre and he handed me a bottle of pop WTF about the other guests kids? Assigned a table at the restaurant and some days had to get my own chairs and cutlery as it wasn't ready, endless ques for food as the restaurant couldn't handle the amount of guests to feed so was confronted with empty dinner trays and wait for them to be filled with basic items like chips which were not cooked properly or burnt. Twice complained to restaurant manager which he then advised its coming? Lol. Witnessed cross contamination with one of there chefs on live grill picking up raw food with utensil and then pick up cooked food to put on my plate which I refused and walked off with disbelief.Im putting in complaint to Thompson this hotel should not be advertised and be condemned in till new management take over and run it properly.

Hi dear Rich,
we are happy that you have chosen us to spend your holidays, and we are sorry that things didnt go as expected.
We are trying to improve our services, we have a very good staff.
The toilet problem is a rare case, and we are sorry it happened with you, usually our rooms are maintained and in a very good situation.
The air conditionning is working very good all over the hotel.
Assigning a specific table to you helps you to not try to find where to sit everytime.
Our manager is very helpful, and never ignored guests, he is doing his best to guarantee youa great holidays.
We are trying to satisfy the majority of our guests and we are doing it very well, especially english guests.
We hope to see you again in Houda Hotels Tunisia, and we are sure you will change your impressions.
Regards.

Why do people pay for 3 star and expect 5 star, you wouldn't pay for a ford fiesta and expect to receive a bloody Aston martin! The rooms are small yes but they are clean.the food is 3star all inclusive. I'm pretty sure some people expected silver service,ITS 3 STAR! Beer was ok spirits ok. Again I'm sure some people wanted Gordon's gin,Jack Daniels,Bacardi and single malt whiskey IT'S 3 STAR! Animation team are brilliant end of a little loud but brilliant. Thanks to billy boy for giving my daughter gymnastic pointers,Top Man. The bottom line is if you want 5 star, BLOODY BOOK 5 STAR!!

Came back yesterday from the Houda. Pool was great, plenty going on an most of the animation team were friendly and did their best to get you involved. Slides were good but everything stopped between 12 and 3. Beach was nice but if you sit in the front you will get constantly hassled, sit a few rows back and they will leave you alone. food was not too bad at snack bar most days but the restaurant was absolutely awful, trays were left empty for ages, chips were brought out and they looked cooked but when you tried to eat them they were still raw inside. West side lounge and Ali's bar did fabulous steaks and the milkshakes in the West side lounge were delicious. As for the drinks, when you pay for all inclusive you would expect to be able to drink what you want, the pool side drinks dispenser of which there was only one was adjusted so that it just trickled out and when there are so many people waiting it was just chaos. The beer was ok and seemed to be more readily available. There was not a great deal of variety when it came to alcoholic beverages and there were not enough bars. I would go back to Tunisia for a holiday but would definitely book a 5 star if this is the standard of 3 star!!
